"Jazz is all about tension and releasing it, that's what makes it so satisfying" - unbelievable that it took me 30y of jazz to hear this spelled out that clearly.

@@bigdog38au it's true of movies/theatre and novels as well. But let's say that classicals are like romcoms, while jazz are more like thrillers
It is amazing that this quality of education is available for free here. You’ve really opened the floodgates for folks to understand what they’re hearing when they listen to Bill Evans. Thank you!

This is the best tutorial on Bill Evans I've seen here. There are so many where the person sort of shows off how much they know making it difficult to follow. Here, your explanation and demonstration are very clear. Thank you.
I will never forget the first time i listened to Dolphin Dance version of Bill Evans, it was litterally like if he didn't play on a piano, but on something else, something no one will never ever play on ! The touch, the feel, the lightness, the first 10 secondes were like : "Hey i'm Bill Evans, one of the greatest who has and will ever play"

It's impressive to be able to understand Jazz theory, and equally impressive to teach it in a foreign language. Kudos.
Wow, such an incredibly helpful video Jimin! Evans is one the main influences of my love for jazz piano and you capture his sound so wonderfully. I've never seen anyone explain his use of the bVI7 -> V7 -> bII7 -> Imaj substitute progression, I can't wait to take that around all 12 keys!
This is amazing! Thanks so much!

Thank you. This is wonderful. I love how you describe these techniques and then show applications, and you always sound so great when you play the examples!
You are brilliant as was Bill Evans. Loved your demonstration.
perhaps V is "nostalgic" because, being unstable & wanting resolution, it embodies that sense of longing for something other than what currently is, which must be close to the heart of feeling nostalgia. very good clear concise video.
