Just take your calculator and type 32 over 80, press answer you'll get 2 over 5. Then just multiply 2 over 5 by 100 (don't put the % sign into the calculator) you'll get 40, simple.

It's just one way to get to the answer. basically the person just did it long way for formula x=32/80 equal to 40 percent. the person went one step more by making the fraction smaller. not to difficult to comprehend but still which ever is easier for the person to find the answer then just go with it.

In India 🇮🇳we used to calculate it much easier( not complicated like this) we simply solve this 32/80 × 100 = 40% 😊

There is a guy of South Asian heritage doing math videos. Two videos before this he did a question like this, different, numbers. I paused this video, did it the way he did and I got the right answer in no time. No need for x and all that. He makes it so much simpler. He said, any number after the word, "of", write it with the division line above. Then write the the other above it. So, it would like: 32 ------ 80 He then said, divide the bottom number by 100 32 -------- x 100 80 100 ÷ 80 = 1.25 1.25 '× 32 = 40% He's brilliant 😆

I feel like she went the long way because I just divided 32/80 and got .4, move the decimal to the right twice and you have 40%

I tend to go at this kind of problem like this: In algebraic terms, this story problem can be expressed as: N X 80 = 32 (I dislike using "X" for unknown quantities since it can be confused with the multiplication symbol) To flip the problem around so the unknown is at the end (easier generally to process), call it: 32 divided by 80 = N So, N = .4, or 40 percent.

I had similar thought regarding the variable "X". That's why I tend to use the "*" for multiplication. It would just be better to use a different variable, but convention.

Take 10% of 80 =8 Multiply by 2,3,4 … until you get the number asked 8*4 =32. Add a 0 to the number you multiplied the 10%. =40. Works for any number.

Idk if this is easier but what i did was take 50%(40) then take 10%(8) then subtract, 40%(32)

I just thought 40 is 50 Procent and 8 is 10% and because 32 is 8 less Than 40(50%),it means it has to be 40% :)

So ughh my logic tells me: 40 is 50% and 32is 8less which is 10% so 50%-10%=40%

this is a simple ratio problem; where, IS over OF is EQUAL to X/100. or 32/80 = X/100 ==> X = 40%

Sometimes looking at the answer choices helps dramatically. If we multiply 80 x 0.40 or 40% which is an answer choice we get 32. I love process of elimination. Removing unreasonable answers. 😊

Or you can go: 50% of 80 is 40 (easy to calculate), we're still above 32, so we need to reduce the percentage - let's calculate what 5% of 80 is, since the multiple choice answers list 45% as the highest answer below 50%, so 5% of 80 is obviously 4 (since 50% of 80 is 40, or also because 8x5/10 = 40/10), so now we have 40-4=36: 36 is still not the correct answer that we are looking for (32), so let's go 5% lower, basically subtract 4 again(from 36), oh we reach 32 here! Therefore the answer is 40% (because 50%-5%-5%=40%)

Both numbers have 8 as a factor or to state it another way both are divisible by 8. 8 goes into 32 four times and 8 goes into 80 ten times, therefore 32/80 becomes 4/10 or .4 which is 40%. Note that you could have reduced it further to 2/5 but since we tend to think in multiples of 10 no further advantage is gained by doing so and 4/10 is easier to convert to decimals and percentage than 2/5 for most people.

How about this one? 10% of 80 = 8 to get to 32, you have to multiply that 10% of 8 X 4 = 32… ergo 40%. All in my head. Using 10% as a starting point can often reach an answer sooner.

32 would be 32% of 100 so the only answer smaller than that. Lol

Lets do it this way Let the percentage required be x/100 Then, According to question (X/100)×80=32 X= (32×100)/80 X= 40%

There’s a lot of comments saying there’s a simple way to do it such as 32/80 * 100. Which is true and it does work. They aren’t however explaining why this works and they’re missing the important details about it. Shortcuts like this aren’t good practice since you’re missing a lot of important work, unfortunately teachers on here tend to show you the right way to do it but fall flat on explaining. An important thing about this video is you need to know what a variable or x is when it comes to math. A variable x is an input. For example we know that 40% of 80 is 32. Why? Plug it in for x. 80(0.4) = 32 -> 32=32. When you’re solving for x, you’re essentially figuring out what the input value would be in order to equal your number. 80(?) = 32 -> (?) =32/80 -> (0.4) = 32/80. This is how they got the first part of their simplified version, 32 divided by 80. 80x = 32 -> x = 32/80. In order to fully understand this, let’s say we want to find out how 2 = 1 for some reason. Well we know that’s not true, but how can make an equation true? Let’s add an input variable and call it x. 2x = 1. This is the same as saying 2 * x = 1. In algebra we need to isolate the variable to solve. So, we need to divide both sides of the equation to get x by itself. 2x/2 = 1/2 -> x = 1/2. Now let’s verify if we did it right. Substitute the answer for x. 2(1/2) = 1 -> 1 = 1 ✅ Here’s a fun thought experiment. If I had a 7 mm string, how many times larger would it have to be in order for me to have a 32mm string? Build your own equation and don’t do it in your head, understand how x works. Might be a bit confusing, but the more you learn the more you realize it’s a lot more simple than you’d think. I was horrendous at math, I mean absolutely terrible at it. Failed out and got my GED. Now I’m a second year CS student doing calc 2. It may seem like they’re doing it the “hard way” but they’re doing it for a reason! Oversimplified versions that only show the end result such as 32/80*100 does not teach you math, it tells you how to memorize and never do math of your own. Understand how to derive these equations and where it comes from, if you do, math will feel very natural!

This is a very simple way to view a problem like this when there’s so many different types of percentage problem on the test. Thank you!

I kinda solve that in my head. 50% is 40. So you narrow it down to c or d. You already can tell 8 go into 32, 4 times. Carry the zero to 4, which will make it 40 and the answer will be 40%

For those of you who don’t know what x or r is it’s just like a empty space for a number that is used later

The % sign is just a shorthand notation for division by 100. So the answer is 40 and _not_ 40% which is 100 times smaller than the actual value.

The last digit of 80 is 0 therefore any number multiplied by 80 have the unit digit of 0

Nope. Convert the interrogative statement into a number statement: What percentage of 80 is 32? x% * 80 = 32 Since this is a percentage problem, we lay out our info in a proportion: 32 % ---- = ----- 80 100 Then cross multiply and divide to solve for x: 32 * 100 / 80 = x 3,200 / 80 = x 40 = x

I did 80x and set it equal to 32. After that it’s a simple algebra step. Think about it this way for those who may not get it, 80 × (?) = 32. If you substitute 0.4 (or 40%) for X so 80(0.4) = 32 you’ll get the equation to be equal with 32=32. Essentially your unknown is how to equal 80% to 32%. Therefore you put your variable on 80 and solve for that variable x to get the answer. 80x = 32 x = 32/80 or 0.4

Simple You take 32 multiply by 100% divided by 80 That the Zero in 80 will council one zero on 100 you then take now 32 divided by 8 will give you 4 you then now take 4 multiply by 10 that will give you 40%

People keep saying “there’s a much simpler way to do it”. You’re not grasping this. Memorizing formulas and not being able to derive anything isn’t math. For example. “32/80 *100” does not show you how anything works. If she explained how variables worked and how x is an input for example, it’d make more sense to most people. 80x = 32 -> x = 32/80. I can actually prove it this way. How? 80(32/80) = 32 -> 32 = 32 ✅ It’s important you know how algebra works.

The explanation made it more complicated

once a teacher say the word "simple" just know you will fail that subject

I would set up an equation with 32/80 = x/100. Solving this equation gives us 80x = 32 * 100, which means x = 3200/80 = 40. This is the most intuitive way to see that the ratios need to be the same.

There is a standard formule. At least in german. Ps= Pw: Gw x 100. You asked the PS of 32(= PW) relative to 80(=GW). 80 is like 100%. The mathematic question here is : How much is 32 in Percentage relatve to 80 which is 100%? Depending on what you want to know, you use the formule. You can ask Ps( than the formule is turned as above). Or PW(Value in numbers of percentage), or Gw( vslue in numbers of what is defined as 100%). I just forgot the operationsl rules to turn the formule in order to get PW or GW. I was always so lost whem it came to maths in school. Sorry, it's a long story of disencouragement. 😑
