I'm 55 years old, and somehow I managed to scrape through without ever knowing how to work out percentages. My eldest asked me to help her with percentages and I found this video. I can't believe it's so simple! Thank you!

Don't feel bad. I'm in my 50's too and I have forgotten a lot of the math that I learned because I don't use it on a regular basis as an adult. Keep practicing. You'll get better. Best wishes to you.
Ironically, I'm having a test tomorrow and one of the topics is percentages. Quite a coincidence that this was uploaded today. Thank you!

Good luck!
Thank you so much for this, my teenager is trying to learn Nat4 Maths and this made sense of the problems he had to do without a calculator in a way the course books couldn't!
Thank you for this lesson. As always you make math seem quite simple. I was once so intimidated by math, but you're helping me take my confidence back.
I needed this! Amazing refresher for quick mental math! Thank you!
This is brilliant! Thank you!
This video helped me sm, I struggle a lot with percentages and this made it a lot easier for me, thank you!
I always struggled with the divide by 100 method, but the 10 & 10 method is so much better for me. Thank you dude.

im taking the asvab for the army, when i got my practice test back i did excellent in all categories but math and this video really helped me, so thank you. I never knew how to do percentages and never learned it once in school so whenever i was met with the challenge of figuring out a percent i would either just guess or google/calculate it if i could. Now i know how to do these problems for my actual asvab test later this week!
Sending you a virtual hug, thanks for this!
You’re always amazing. Sooooo appreciated. ❤

Thanks for helping!!
Great video, thanks.
Thank you!
Great teacher. Thank you.
I wish you were my math teacher at school, you explain things so well. I hated math because the teacher was so strict and shouted at you if you were wrong. Kids were scared to ask questions because he would get mad if you didn't know how to do things. This was in the 70s & 80s though
Thank you so much
You are helping me so much and i have been under alot of pressure due to my problems in maths sats papers. You have made everything easy for me tysm
Thanks a lot I was struggling a lot you deserve more than you are getting 😭😎

wow, first time ever understanding percentages. Ive not been able to learn off my teachers and ive just learnt in 5 minutes!
Wonderful Tysm
Brilliant! 🙂👍
Thank youuuu
Very helpful tysm
The only problem i have with this is when you take for ex. 24% of 60 div by 10 = 2.4 x 6. The 2*6 is easy enough to calculate (12). But the 0.4*6 is also just 40% of 6. And i find it hard to do in my head... In that case i could just do the whole problem like this 24% of 60 as 0,24* 60... But yeah, everything ells makes alot of sense. Thanks :)
Amazing
Hello hope all is well I first want to say thank you for your free online education and for putting out Great content and being a great explainer just one question on the last problem 13% of 1200 how come we didn’t move the decimal to the left once to make it 1.3?
Lovely and easy
Thanks
Ty
So helpful

Excellent trick !!! Thank you so much for sharing 👍🏻💥Can you please show examples where the second figure doesn't end with a zero ?

And you too!
Thank you for the great explanation! I have one question: Why in 3% of 400 and 13% of 1200 the division by 10 or 100 doesn’t affect the percentage itself? It makes sense seeing it but I’d like to know why.
@metallsnubben
9 ай бұрын
If I understand your question correctly, think of it like you had "(3 x 400)/(10 x 10)" and "(13 x 1200)/(10 x 10)". You're essentially "simplifying the fraction" and you know you have to divide by 10 twice, but it doesn't matter where you do it, you can do "one of them divided by 100" or "10 each". Since % just means divided by 100, you can rewrite it as 3% x 400 = (3/100) x 400 = (3 x 400)/100 = 3 x (400/100) and so on, the important thing is just that _somewhere_ along the way you're dividing by 100, multiplying by 400 etc. but you can move stuff around. This goes for when you _only_ have multiplication and division, when you also have addition/subtraction in the mix you of course have to keep track of brackets and what goes with what. In the first example of "61% x 80" you could just as well have turned it into "0.61 x 80" or "61 x 0.8", but it's probably going to be easier to do "10 each" and get the "6.1 x 8" And you likewise, "13 x 12" _is_ the same thing as "1.3 x 120", it's just a question of what you think is most convenient.

Well said
Thank you, basically either two numbers divided by 10 and that = 100 what you totally divided and after that the multiplication. Or one number divided by 100 and after that the multiplication.
I think this is brilliant. I am 72. Should have learned this in primary school.
walks into class does nothing goes home and watches videos on the topic aces the test
brilliant! divide by 10 divide by 10 is so much easier. Why couldn't my maths teacher teach like this??
What app do you use to draw?
I think I'm ready for my exams
Lovely
This is so easy. Why were we never taught to do it like this
My teachers in the 50's and 60's couldn't teach me math so I was deemed stupid and lazy. Fascinating that you can teach me this in 5.09 minutes, lol.
Why all sir are taking 0 like (100,60,70) 8 just want to take out 47 and 56 that all are taking 0 no. Only what is this problem
Thanks soon muxh
hi. can you please me with dosage and calculation math? I failed that class and have to rekae in june.
This was really useful thanks.
Thanks, handy tip, although your examples all had quite nice round values that when divided by 10 or 100 gave easy to work with integers - it would still work with different values but wouldn't be quite as quick... e.g. in the shops when something is say 5.99 and has 30% off
@Lilione111
6 ай бұрын
$5.99 is pretty much $6. I’m sure you won’t worry too much about the 1 cent 😄 30% of 6. Much easier.
@Umski
6 ай бұрын
@@Lilione111 it’s the staff that are usually the problem - the number of times I’ve stood there telling them the number and they need to pull out their phone to use a calculator 🤦♂️😂
Watching this at 45 going wish I'd had a teacher like that.
what about the no's that does not consists of zero's?
So for example if the question was “40% of £130” would you work it out the same or differently because of the Pound sign? Another question: How would you work out this for example the question was “30% of 356” would you divide 30 and the divide 10 by 356 which would be 35.6 and work it out the same?
Thank you for the video Josh, the hidden message I shall say is , no matter how old we are , the simpler the explanation the better, and we can prevent future innumeracy and dyscalculia.
