always think of money. Plus or positive is money mom or dad is giving you and minus or negative is money taken away or money you owe. (so x=-50 would mean you owe $50 and x=50 could mean you got $50. Hope that helps.)

When you said "combine the variables on the side you won't get a negative number" was so helpful. I already understand multistep equations with variables on both sides, but combing like terms is usually where I mess up. THANKS!

My teacher gave us a huge test and we had an hour to do it. He didn’t even teach us how to do two-step equations with multiple variables on both sides. He also included pi and other very difficult concepts to the equations. This helped me more than my teacher did.

Oh, multi-step equations with variables on both sides. Those were a huge pain in the ass for me when I first had to deal with them... mainly because I kept taking the harder route after combining like terms just to challenge myself, and I'd keep screwing up all the time when I first saw these equations.

it is a little jarring to see it written this way, but I had the exact same writing just with the x part first. (so 3x-5 instead of -5+3x as an example. Which of course is the exact same thing, but when you aren't used to seeing written that way it's like "oh no I messed up" when in fact it is the same thing.) Any ways great job and I hope your students appreciate you as much as I appreciated this refresher. (Been 20 years since I did algebra and my son is about to start so wanted to refresh on it so I can help him) In another video of yours you said you don't like having a "negative x" (so -3x as an example). I am the exact same way (and for the same reason which you gave in the video). Long story short great work and just subscribed
