I’m gonna start a movement in the US until we all pronounce solder the same way you guys do across the water...cause I LIKE it. 😎 Great video. 14 years and still learning. Would love to see these techniques on 2”, 3”, and 4” L.

As a plumber i just used to whack it in mate until there was enough solder it wouldn’t leak, but now i always take my time and brasso them up after all because of you on instagram. Keep it up mate. All the best.

Thanks for sharing this. I have up plumbing, I just didn't have the confidence as an 30yr old trainee and worked for utter crap firms which destroyed the confidence I did have but still do my own stuff at home. Always struggled with this but was told to flux everything.... Learn something every day!

Thanks for he comments pal, during my training i picked up alot of bad habits but have slowly ironed them out over time, i used to flux everything too until i read the installation guide on this flux. some fluxed may still require you to flux both the pipe and the fitting.

I have a tip for soldering like that near clips. I always wrap a rag round the pipe above the clip to stop any flux running down into the clip where you can’t clean.

Great job mate. You've demonstrated that technique reigns supreme and you were just honest about it which is what I like. I just flux the pipe and normally wipe excess flux off I may stop wiping now lol. I am one of those people that found the Powerflow brand of flux to lock the fittings but I'm inclined to give it another try seeing that my soldering technique has evolved many times over since I last used it.

Great video mate. I used to use fry flux and moved onto everflux due to sticking fittings. Now I know why and I shall be moving back! Many thanks pal keep the videos coming

Neat soldering, but sometimes a run of solder on a fitting is better than a leak. 9/10 times you will be in a confined space and will barely have the space for your torch.

Awesome mate I’m a plumber my self and refuse to use plastic still. Doing my own new build and it’s all in copper. 2 underfloor heating manifolds and 1 zone for towel rail. All controlled zone valves. People just don’t appreciate nice copper work and it all gets hidden away. Great vid

Thankyou for shareing your technique just shows u dont need much solder i sometimes have the habit of adding a little bit more when the pipes going under floorboards just probably a bad habit over the years as i think i dont wana leak

Great Vid and it goes to show even with that amount of flux you still made it neat . I would have agreed and said a little more solder but you just proved you dont need loads . Again look how much is in a 15mm yorkshire elbow etc . Now i have seen your technique Im coming for ya 😂😂😂😂 Keep ups the good work

which of the two blowtorches there is your preferred? don’t want the superfires or firejets

What brackets are you using? I'm building a manifold for my softener and discharge. Since it will be on display, I'd like a set of nice wall brackets to hold it in place.

It's funny you know, I only use these techniques in airing cupboards, under boilers and generally on visible pipework but under floorboards I just throw that solder in and get beer belly snots on my couplings lool. If I feel that bump i know its gone round.

Got hold of one of those Mark Vitow torches on your recommendation. Found that the flame seems to go crazy when changing the angle of the torch (ie turning torch sideways to get in a tight space). Is this something you’ve experienced or do I have a dud??

I'll try my best mate, as you could imagine it takes hours and hours to make one piece of content for youtube. Where as Instagram is pretty instant, hence the amount I put on there. I'll try to keep em coming 👍

As a DIYer do you have to clean the inside of the copper fittings ( if new)? I noticed you didn’t do this in the video. Great video btw. I have had 3 plumbers doing work at my house and had 4 major leaks and two smaller leaks. Let me tell you their joints have plenty of solder around the joints and green stuff. Around here we call plumbers “leakers” as its seems more apt. 😢

Hi Andy, sorry to hear that, sounds like a rough ride. in all honesty i only clean the inside of the fitting if it looks dirty or overly oxidised.

I'm off next week, but the following week I'm gonna do a whole job like this. If there's leaks I'm gonna send the boss your way

I usually just knock them off with the solder mate, quick motion so you don't get more melting on

Hi Tony, Just a quick one do you use power flux on your gas fitting as well? Doing my Gas atm and the teachers said no powerflux on gas fittings whatsoever but not really sure why

I was told years ago not to use active flux on gas pipes because you can't flush it but I've worked for British gas for many years now and we use LA-CO flux and that stuff burns through anything.

The biggest problem I find apprentice's have with soldering they use too much solder and going from copper to brass they dont understand that they need to get plenty of heat into the big lump of brass first for the solder to take.

ffs been a long week .....

There's a reason professionals do not use steel wool for cleaning the copper and it's obvious by your demonstration. Still wool leaves little itty bitty pieces of steel fiber all over the place and it's clearly visible when your torch hits it I would not want any steel in contact with the water pipe as it's an impurity. I suggest you change over to using a wire brush or emery cloth. Those little bits of steel fiber could cause pinhole leaks in the copper pipe.

Apparently the fire master torch stays red hot for like 15 mins, don’t know how true this is

Great vid. Unfortunately couldn’t hear when you were altering the flame, would’ve been nice if you said I’m starting full heat decreasing increasing etc. Great video regardless though. 👍

AVOID ACID FLUX, Very common is acid flux ,over heated and I've witnessed many many of these joints cracking when moved in the slightest.
