    Ugugublu its Aristotelian ethics. your question is its own answer. "how do I get great at x"? do it. by great at it. that simple. change occurs that way from the second states of being are opposed. the second you go from not doing it to doing it, you already effected the first and most crucial step to getting it done

    I agree with Mr. Jocko. However, I wish that he had elaborated on the thought processes that entail "just moving forward." The importance of rituals, prepping your gear (for me--the coffee maker) the night before. At the age of 51, I know that going to the gym is ALWAYS better than not going--even if it's just getting the blood flowing. Jocko is a great role-model. A little more civilian-friendly (multiple response strategies) might be useful. I'm a veteran, so I get where he's coming from. Much respect!

    I hate this... not because it's wrong, but because it's right. I'm not a slob or a loser, but sometimes I act like one. Sometimes I take the day(s) off. Sometimes I take the path of least resistance. I don't want to be that guy anymore.

  • @Tony.Galanopoulos

    @Tony.Galanopoulos

    6 жыл бұрын

    SundownTE be honest with yourself man. You take those days off because you want to. You choose the least resistance because you don't want to try. In those moments you choose the instant gratification over working towards a better, more stronger you. You choose to succumb into laziness rather than climbing towards success because your desire to be unstoppable is not powerful enough. The pain of this realization is what will give you the power to actually overcome your laziness. Stay with the pain of your failures, feel how intensely you hate seeing yourself falling. Don't let yourself feel good with the image of what you'd like to become. See what stops you and just destroy that shit with your will power. No one said its easy, but this path is all about enduring the pain and sacrificing your pain, in order to to become unstoppable. The desire to do it is all you need.

    Ever heard of the story of the lumberjack? The lumberjack got to a new forest and started chopping wood, and got a decent amount of trees chopped down the first day, about 13. The next day he got up a little earlier, and managed to chop 14 trees. he was so excited he told the buyer that there will be plenty of wood to transport and sell! The next day he again woke up a little earlier, but only managed to chop 9 trees. he was really confused. he didn't understand at all why this had happened. how could he chop less wood even tho he's working harder?? The next day was even worse, he managed barely to chop 4 trees. He started to become depressed and anxious about his work. With this pace he wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand, and the buyers wouldn't buy from him anymore. One day his buyer came by, and saw that he was sitting on the porch of his cabin, looking sad. The buyer asked what's going on. The lumberjack explained how he was frustrated and axious about how he wouldn't be able to supply enough wood to survive. They decided to sit down and have a coffee to talk about it. While the buyer was in the kitchen looking at the lumberjack making coffee, he noticed the lumberjacks axe, which looked really doll, and asked when was the last time that the lumberjack had sharpened it. The lumberjack said "never". The buyer asked how the lumberjack could expect any good results if he didn't take care of his tools. The lumberjack had no answer. While the lumberjack lifted up his axe to inspect how doll it was, the buyer noticed that the lumberjack also had torn his arm and it was purple from broken tissue. The buyer asked how could he even think of working if he's not physically capable. the lumberjack had no answer. The lumberjack hadn't thought of the basics enough, and hadn't understood what makes chopping wood efficient. He had thought that just working and working will eventually give results. Consistency is key, but you'll get much more done and enjoy it much more if you work smart rather than lots. Remember to sharpen your axes guys!

    This story is 9000% better than the video. Sometimes you gotta push forward, but sometimes you really need to maintain yourself and sustain stuff that happens outside of the gym/business/relationships/etc. If you're not feeling like it because you're traumatized - for 100% deal with the trauma first, not just push yourself through stuff. Of course, sometimes pushing yourself through is THE cure and THE solution - but this is not always the case. Self harm through blind following of the discipline is the real thing.

    Hearing Jocko say to just do it, even if you don’t want to, and it’s ok if you don’t want to, has literally changed my life. I get out of bed at 450, I don’t want to, but I do. I work an extra two hours, and I don’t want to, but I do. And I feel better at the end of the day then I did when I let myself do what I “wanted” to do.

    For ultra solid life principle motivation talk that can really improve your mindset, jocko podcast is the very best. The messages I've heard in the podcast resonate in such a true way that other podcasts don't really capture, it makes sense that the podcast is surrounding books because the right books have the most power possible because they are someone's mind focused on the best way possible to say a message , then edit it down to the essence etc. Jocko is the kind of guy that you would be lucky to be near or with if some disaster situation went down, he's way more likely to survive than most people. Even if he was captured, he would be good. learning about people who went through hardcore war and hearing jocko talk about it like his own battles aren't anything close in comparison is a humbling insight, it helps to complain less about stupidly small problems when you hear these kind of discussions, thanks for making the podcast, it has definitely helped me improve my mindset.

    Entirely depends how you view the situation too. Does how we feel determine what we can or can't do? Is what you are doing work? Or who you are? Are you fighting for something greater? Is this something you "want"? Or is this a commitment or a real mission? Not answering these questions also can lead us to not doing too.
