Thanks Tony… great video. It is always good to see the details on how other makers do their work to help us all refine. Great detail and explanation of how you do your guards!!! Can’t wait to see your next steps.

Awesome job my friend as always 👍 I got 4 hidden tang blades ground and sanded just waiting on guards. I killed 2 trying to fit them up so I said the hell with it. They've been waiting on me for about a month so I might try again this weekend 👍 thanks

Love you content Tony, keep it up. I'm curious why you clamp the knife horizontally in the vise instead of vertically. I do traditional hot fitting now, and I position my knives vertically in the vise. It just felt natural, but I've noticed a propensity to overdrive either the left or right side of the guard and end up with a less than perfect alignment. I also don't use a hard backer, so I'll be adding that to my process. Do you feel like you get more control from the horizontal placement?

Thank you my friend. I used to do it vertically but after JW showed me to do it horizontal I get more bite on the blade. Also I can see it better. That’s one of the main reasons why I do it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Tony. Good luck with your Journeyman test. What do you think of using wrought iron for guards rather than 416 stainless? 3/8s of course.

@@TonySeverioKnives how long have you been making? I’d like to test for journeyman. Does that test require that you forge or is stock removal sufficient

@dominicdwk a little over 30 years. Yes the test is a forged blade then you make five and have them judged.
