How to Skin a Bear with Steven Rinella
Спорт
More bear come into the taxidermist screwed up than not. The skinning cuts are made in the wrong places, the hides are full of holes, or the faces are ruined.
Since it's a tragedy to see such a badass animal not taken care of properly, Steve worked with John Hayes, from Hayes Taxidermy Studio, to produce this video. Consider this an education tool to make sure your next bear rug shows up to the taxidermist in tip-top shape. Don't go bear hunting before you watch it.

This video shows the importance of having and maintaining a very sharp knife
I appreciate how you dismembered the joints by getting at the articulation site and cutting the ligaments instead of hacking through with a bone saw
I am so glad you guys posted this. It is so informative for me. I really appreciate it because I have never skinned a bear. I have done deer and elk. But this is great. This gives me more confidence and would love to hunt bear one day. I love it. Thanks guys! Keep up the awesome job!

More of these videos please !!! Would like to see the rest of the process too
This is incredibly valuable to see! I've taken a keen interest in self-reliance recently, as many folks have, given the state of the world today, and learning these skills is such a gift. Thank you!
I just take my taxidermist hunting with me lol
Learned a lot on this one. Thank you for this video, and just keep all the great hunts and content coming.
Thank you so very much for these videos. I could watch a hundred of these videos and still pick up new good advice.
Thank you for this, I’ve been hoping Meateater would put our a bear skinning video! Very thorough & I’ll definitely be referring back to this video after I get my first bear!
Thank you Steve for this AWESOME informational video!
The thing I found most amazing about this video is how sharp that little knife was. He cut that whole thing up with ease using the same blade and not having to sharpen it one time!
I will most probably never need this knowledge, but I am glad I watched this. A well done explanation.
Perfect timing. I was just watching your old video of skinning a Bear yesterday
I love how many times they say cowlick in this video and the whole time I'm just looking at Steve's hair like "alright" 😂
That final tip was awesome! imagine following all of these dressing techniques only to have the hide rot!
Thanks for putting this out
I struggled through skinning bears my first few times, Still remember trying to get those bones out of the feet, getting the nose and trying to skin out the ears.. I was taking the hide to a tannery so I didn't have the luxury of leaving fat on or "letting the taxidermist" deal with it.. It had to be 100% prepped
One of the best bear skinning videos... thanks
I learned a lot from this tutorial video. I have never skinned a Bear, but now I have a good base line to follow. Thanks guys for the knowledge.
This is a great informative learning video. You guys went step by step explaining everything BEFORE you begin to make the cute. I appreciate the time that you took to teach us this information. We can review this BEFORE we go bear hunting and feel good about the cuts that we make. Thank You

Hello Ron Wilson !
Always good tv mate. We dont even have Bears in Australia but i still watch it. Good one.
Ngl the “I’m gonna be honest, I don’t even know where you want this cut” got me 😂😂
Absolutely amazing video. Thanks guys.
As an aspiring hunter, I enjoy watching videos which feel like expert level challenges. I learn so much and watch in amazement. I thought the comment section would be filled with activists. Happy to see hunters appreciating content like this! Go Steve!

I have a question ( genuine). I get why people hunt for food but is it just fun to hunt like bears ? If so what’s the feeling like ? What makes you do it? Or is it to sell the fur ?

@keredo854 it's for meat same reason we hunt any other animal.
Great tutorial. I hope to put it to use this hunting season!!!thanks guys great job
That was a lot of information. Thanks for sharing my your skills and time. This has been a thing, for sure.
Awesome information. Thank you for sharing this!
Very interesting point on care after skinning, and to let that hide cool overnight before rolling it up. Would not have thought the hide would have any heat in it after all the time taken to skin it out.

Same here and when we got to the taxidermy people and it started to rot we would have looked like idiots, well not that bad but not great either. Good hunting and stay safe. Peace people
Great video family...Real talk.Salute👊🏿
Hopefully y’all see this but I think a mini series like this but all animals would be awesome!!!! Super helpfully!
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY brother and everyone else thank you for sharing this information and adventures
This was an incredibly helpful demonstration. I have never harvested a black bear before, and part of the reason why is lacking the knowledge on how to skin it and prepare the hide. Maybe this will be the year for my first best!

This video is extremely helpful for hunters!. Can’t believe that bear cooperated so well..
It's good to see Steve again.
The Alaskan F&G has a great tutorial you can print off and stash in your backpack that mirrors this outstanding Meateater video .😊
Was waiting for steven renella to show up.. hope more hunting videos are coming featuring steven renella..
Talk about a timely video! Going bear hunting in a month and I’ve been meaning to look up this exact topic. Let’s hope it’s a harbinger of things to come!

Awesome Video!! So cool to watch that process!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Steven is finally back!
Steve I really appreciate just got out of bed look. As I watch this I'm drinking my fist cup of coffee, it really makes this much more relatable. I just got my rug back from last falls black bear. We skinned hanging. Thanks for doing this! Next one I'm going to try to complete myself. mask- no claw rug backed with felt. My rug is 7'6" head mount with claws 2, layers of felt- (1600.00) Cheers!
Good to see Steven Renella back.
Loving all these processing vIdeos!
Love these how to videos
I needed this. Fantastic!
Excellent work. Skinner from Alaska.
Bear def gonna feel that the next day
Great Video!! Coming from Northwestern Montana , I've got my share of bears and made my share of mistakes. Will never forget the eye roll head shake when I dropped a rug off pre salted lol. Keep up the great work!

Think is really informative. We don’t have bears here in my part of Texas but still good to know. I honestly didn’t expect to see this on KZread, I figured it’d be too gorey to show.
Very helpful, this should be required viewing before taking a bear! thank you!!
Thanks so much for sharing. This is a big help as my goal this year is to get a bear and have a rug made .

I always like seeing folks (with a lot of experience) skin animals. I have done ~100 bears but am still an amateur and learning things.
Good information. Thank you from Norway.
Great video!
That was a very useful video it's about time we get to see you again I really enjoyed it Steve how to see more videos with you in them soon I truly do enjoy them that's why I started watching the mediator series this video helped me out because I've been planning a black bear hunt for a couple years and now that a really close friend of mine move from Galveston Island near where I live up to Kentucky on a really large piece of property he has a black bear problem and has invited me up to help him out with harvesting a couple of them see more videos soon I really enjoy them thank you so much to the whole meat eater family

Great video, Thanks for doing this. Also, great seeing an MKC knife being put to good use. Mine cuts the same as that one. It's almost like there's a zipper when you run it under the hide like that.

Great information, stuff I didn't know!
Cool and interesting but rough to watch sometimes. Mainly the popping joints lol I was like O DAMN!
Now i know where those alien skulls has come from.
It feels kinda scary at the start, like it gives off a feeling like it's still a threat. Heebie jeebies
Absolutely love meat eaters & out door life!
Great step-by-step tutorial on skinning a bear!
He stays amazingly still for how much coke he’s had in the past. 10/10 Actor!
Fantastic ad placement by KZread in the form of Behr paint 🤣
I'll never do this, but I love this video!
Great video
Looks to be rocking that MKC knife, lucky guy!
This is GNARLY!!!
Wow, this was informative. Wish for a little more close ups during the paws and head, but solid information.
Thank you guys for making this. Me and my friend are going to MT next week for our first ever bear hunt and had no clue how to properly hide-out a bear. Perfect timing
The bear and Steven both have very large cowlicks in their hair 😂
This is great. Makes the bear hunt this fall less stressful. WHAT KNIFE IS HE USING??????? The Paracord wrapped one.
Thank you for this thank you

Great info, two questions I have: was that a Montana knife company blade and did he ever have to sharpen it? Made skinning that bear look easy
That MKC knife is boss.
bear skull looked GNARLY
Wow, this is great 👍
This was a great reference for anyone looking to go on a bear hunt for their first time. Thank you for that. I am curious as to which modle MKC knife he was using?

I see he had two knives, the first one on the table @2:29 is most likely the Blackfoot. The second knife @9:50 looks like the SPEEDGOAT BLADE MINI, it has the paracord wrap. Pretty impressive knives.
Did my first Michigan bear the other day and I was surprised how well I think I did all things considered
Now if only Florida will reopen our bear season I can put this knowledge to use!

Maybe he should teach Steve how to cook a bear. Just teasing, love you man!
The explanation was fantastic and the camera work very good. It was aggravating when the editor cut away from the closeup of the skinning process to get a wide view. When he was cutting I needed to see what he was doing not a view from 6 ft away.
❤ the content
looking to do my first bear hunt in Massachusetts next year. So my big question is could we get a video feild dressing and also butchering? Also would love to see a series of videos focusing on the 3 steps of dress, skin and butchering.
I could bearly contain my excitement
The head was the weirdest for me to take off my first bear, very similar to us 😅 took me a minute to gather my self to pull it off and get it done.
Thanks gentlemens
Epic instructional!
