    I know this is a question not to this video but was wondering if you could help me out, I made an svg file of the letter D and I don't have a line at the bottom of the letter made it into an svg and then uploaded it in cricut well it put a line at the bottom of the D and I don't know why it did that, it the svg don't have the line. I can send the svg file if need to be so you can see and look for ya self, I made it in Adobe IA, couldn't figure out how to do what I wanted in Inkscape. I want to make a rectangle and have the word in the middle of it but not cut it all the way out so the word stays in the rectangle and I can lift the top of the letter up hard to explain what I trying to do.

    I can see how this process can transpose to different etching depths on metal clay but I would have to use the cutting cue so I can use the B terminal. I think?...

    Interesting idea. You can't really control depth on either the A or B side other than to change pressure or to manually change the height on the tool. So there's no advantage to the B side and there is a disadvantage as you will get artifacts at the start of each path due to blade offset that is programmed in.

    Sketchmee has a chalk mode which prepares an SVG for white stokes on dark paper. So I used that but otherwise the same process.

    I've been going through so many of your videos and tutorials and I'm SO grateful that you're putting your knowledge base out there. Your skillset is so prolific!! Anyhow, I'm curious whether you can tell me why, if I simply draw something *IN* Inkscape... simply put, let's say I use the "Draw FreeHand Lines" Tool or the "Draw Bezier Curves..." Tool and draw a simple shape. If I save the single path and import it to Cricut, it tells me that it's an incompatible file and does all sorts of strange things with the file. I can't understand why your paths, created in SketchMee, are any different than a path drawn in InkScape. Are you able to shed any light on that? Or perhaps create a video/tutorial showing how to import something, drawn in InkScape, to Sketchup? I can easily create something with double lines that Sketchup wants to "cut", but I'm failing at importing something that Sketchup will draw with a pen. Also, I have zero ios devices...all android/windows over here, and I'm also an artist. I want to turn *my own* line drawings into something the Cricut can draw... not a sketch made from a photo by an app. Rest assured, they're incredibly simple line drawings I'm trying to start with. Thanks so much for any help you can give!

    Hmmm. I routinely create drawing files with the freehand and bezier tools in Inkscape and import them into Design Space with no problems (except for needing to resize). There's no special process or tricks involved. Could have to do with the version of Inkscape you are using or something. Reach out to me at cleversomeday.com/contact so we can try some troubleshooting.

    I was having the same problem! I solved it by saving the Inkscape file as a .dxf file type and that worked too import to Cricut.

    Are you happy with your Cricut? Is it robust, or fiddly to set up and use?

  • @cleversomeday

    @cleversomeday

    Hardware is robust, not fiddly to set up, but software is very restrictive and inflexible. Really depends on what you want to do with it.

    Oh well, I am trying to use my Chomas etching tool. Do you anticipate Cricut designing an etching tool?

  • @cleversomeday

    @cleversomeday

    6 жыл бұрын

    The Chomas tool should work fine (as far as the depths are concerned. I don't know enough about clay to know if you can get the detail these sketches need). I would try it in the A side with different pressures, or you could shim it to different physical depths. I definitely think Cricut will have an etching tool eventually, but that will be more important for high pressure projects like engraving metal than for working with clay.

    Can I use a normal pencil (graphite) on cricut?

  • @cleversomeday

    @cleversomeday

    3 жыл бұрын

    possible, but tricky because pencils wear down. you would need a way to adapt it to fit, and have to pause frequently to adjust the height and/or resharpen.

    My cricut doesn't give me the option of the scoring pen. It is asking for the scoring tool on clamp b and I don't have one :( am I doing something wrong?

  • @cleversomeday

    @cleversomeday

    No, you aren't doing anything wrong. When Cricut released the scoring wheel a few weeks ago, they made it the default for the Maker. When that comes up, there is a button to the right that allows you to choose a different tool.

    Make sure you are choosing PDF as the file type as shown in the first video. If you don't see that option, then you may need to update SketchMee or get the version that supports PDF export. It was missing for a while, but is back.
