*When every ice skating video on youtube is due to Yuri on ice* Just a tip for the YOI fans, most YOI fans stop skating after their first or second time but they buy a bunch of equipment and then give up. Go to a rink and see if you like it before you commit :) i skate at a skating rink and the amount of YOI conversations I hear is un believable. (I love YOI btw, not dising it)

I am a yoi fan, but truth is, I'm not ice skating cause of it, in fact, I got into ice skating after watching yuzuru hanyu preform with the music : hope and legacy

I started skating because of YOI. Although I actually really liked it and now I can't go a day without thinking about skating. I'm improving fast and now I'm now working on jumps (not anything big, just the waltz jump and other beginning jumps) But it does cost a lot. The first time I went to the ice rink I bought Jacksons, along with equipment like guards and soakers. I thought that they were pretty expensive at first (even though it was Jackson's and other good brands cost hundreds) so I wasn't really sure if it was going to be a waste or not but I still bought it. Thankfully it turned out not to be a waste but others and I should have been more smarter and tried it out before purchasing.

Thank you so much. Since we don't have teachers for adults in my area, your tutorials became my lessons and will be for the rest of the season. I espacilly appreciated your basic technical issue about inside + outside of the blades. This gave me a lot more stability and no other tutorial on youtube mentioned it right from the start. Thx a lot :)

I wish i could go somewhere that Hockey, or just ice skating isnt super common just to observe and maybe showoff just a little bit. lol

This is an awesome video! I have watched this one and one of your other videos so far and I found them to be very good and well detailed. I have been ice skating since I was a child but watching these videos will help me improve my ice skating. I also am very happy that you posted this video on how to ice skate backwards. Last time I tried to ice skate backwards was at least back between 2005-2009 and i tried to teach myself but i had no idea i was doing it wrong and i fell and twisted my ankle enough to get me out of gym class for a week. Now thanks to your video I know the easier and proper way to try to teach myself. Thank you for the very well done and very well explained tutorial.

Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for putting up such helpful videos! I'm just starting on ice skating now and spent today practising forward movement and proper stance as well as using 'lemons' to move forward and backward. Not quite at the stage of letting go of the railing when going backwards yet, but I'm quite happy with my progress so far. Your advice and explanations as for where the weight should be centred really help me understand where and how I should be placing my body.

Thank you so much Chris. Your beginners skate videos r brilliant. You explain everything so well which is so critical for beginners like me. I'm taking group lessons but come to your tutorials to listen to explanations of weight shift, which edge to lean to on etc. It's been so helpful. In some videos, I see comments that you talk too much. What a load of rubbish! It is because you explain things in detail that makes a big difference. You addressed the challenges beginners face which is frequently overlooked. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing your skating knowledge so generously.

Update: I went, and it was fun! I felt solid on the lemons, and did an entire lap with them.(Angering muscles I rarely use) However, the transition to C-cuts was harder. I was able to move backwards by putting the pressure on different legs to move me, but it seemed different from what you're going for. I wasn't able to c-cut with one leg while the other remained going straight backward, my feet stayed the same distance apart the whole way. Overall I was moving in a straight path, but a very wobbly one. It this just an issue of muscle control?
