bro, quick tip, start turning with the interior foot going first anf the exterior behind (not in a line, with separation) and then sharpen that turn till you notice you slide, just keep doing it, each time a bit faster and a bit sharper, some day you will just do it for normal stops as if you did it all life

Excellent! You picked up on it pretty quick. As a hockey player, I’d say it’s important to learn to stop on both sides. This really applies to anything related to skating. Once you get one side down make a point to practice the other side before moving on to anything

Well I have this problem. I have learned the stop turning to the left, but I can't do it while turning to the right. But I also started to learn that thing when I place my skates in front of one another while turning, which I also only learnt to turn left. In fact simply turning to the right is also a bit of a problem for me. Can you suggest anything? Will this be a problem that I learnt something new while I couldn't do the hockey stop to the other side? Btw I don't want ot be a professional skater I just want to learn these skills so that I could do them anytime, but that I can only do these to one side bothers me a bit.

I think people neglect that he's forced to film himself (for KZread). Most people learning won't film themselves, so they won't have the luxury of reliving their mistakes. a couple things i can see your doing wrong that I've done but have gotten better on 1) your skate laces are way to lose, i can see your ankles folding in and that how you ruin your skates 2) your concentrating on the stop too much so you back foot is right on your front foot, you need about 10-13 inches of space between your skates 3) your leaning to much forward so try to work on leaning back abit other then that your pretty good at them, keep up the great work

Ava Boxwell I wouldn’t say they get made fun of, but younger kid skaters learning will see adults falling and getting back up which inspires them to not be afraid to fall. They’ll laugh for sure, but they remember when they were learning too. I’ve had nothing but support from people at the arena when I fell down, someone always came to check on me. I’m 31 now, many people including myself, grew up in a household that could not afford hockey equipment to participate in the sport. So we get into it at a later age when we have our own jobs and income to support that hobby.

My advice on how to ice skate. The problem for begginers is that your scared of falling, but if you learn how to fall without hurting yourself and how to get up you have no problem, also everyone falls its no big deal. Next, a lot of people walk on the ice or take steps, now your probably going to fall since the front of many iceskates has a jagged stop, you want to glide on the ice as if your sliding. Lastly, dont ever be to full of yourself and always hold your arms out. Bonus; when you fall dont hold your hand out with your flat palm on the floor someone might run your hand over, put your in a fist position. Have a good day!!

I've been struggling with this for about 5 months now going from roller hockey which is completely different as it's a small difference I just couldnt grasp. But after watching this and getting very inspired did it the next time I was on the ice

As a hockey player this is amazing. Also I haven’t looked at any comments yet but I have a feeling it’s all the hockey players riding from their slumber

Hey, Mike Boyd! I really think that you should try to learn how to do a "Behind The 8-Ball" (Or maybe "Helix") Balisong trick! I just learned how to do it and i think that it would be a fun challenge for you! And if you don't want to spent much money on a balisong, than you can get a dull training knife for about 10USD on Amazon!

That was quick if you truly didn't know how to skate to begin with. My 11 year old plays hockey and we went skating together a few weeks back and I was jealous of how well he could do the hockey stop so I decided to learn it myself.
