14:46 Summary of 4 points: Everything you need in your James Hetfield ‘tool kit’
In this video, I share the 4 main critical techniques to learn how to sing more like James Hetfield. Although James' voice has changed over the years, he has always retained some specific 'trademark sounds' which I break down in this isolated vocal analysis. This video was inspired by the 30-year celebration of the Black Album which catapulted Metallica into mega-rock-stardom, and a much wider audience with an album packed full of mega-hits. James Hetfield is largely an under-rated singer, and guitar player - but those who know the extent of his talent are fully appreciative of his incredible talent.
I help rock singers master their mind and voice so they can sing with power and confidence, and without pain or vocal damage. Unlike other vocal coaches who only teach the basic skills, I share my signature rock vocal secrets that have made me successful as a professional rock frontman for over 30yrs, and I ALSO deliver massive transformation through proven mindset techniques, that help you develop the identity and confidence required so you can become truly successful and reach your highest potential.

Thanks! I agree (from my view), because I think it's why many singers start - they idolize their favorite artist and want to BE them.... (that's what I did anyway). I've done Axl - link here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l52WrJeAY6uTo7A.html and will put Danzig on the list, as I love his voice - thanks for that suggestion! Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like James is singing with more volume. I mean, when I try to sing like him it's alright in the lower register, but when it gets higher and especially louder (as in For Whom the Bell Tolls), it's seems impossible to sing with my chest voice without hurting myself. I can mimic him with my head voice but then it's impossible for me to put volume. Maybe it's because I need to practice more, but my voice seems to automatically switch off to prevent damage.

Our ears can deceive us into thinking he is singing louder... In reality you can use a 'comfortable' volume (otherwise James wouldn't last night after night on tour - it would just be far to physically exhausting)

haha cool. I always think James took some time to find his style - from his early hair metal attempts to the first album to get there at MoP, by the Black album he had really tuned his style His booze and drug detox also a big turning point.

Hey Brendan, agree - it takes most singers awhile to settle in and find their 'authentic voice'. That's why I try to encourage people to write their own songs often (the reason I write a song every day posting to my instagram, for example!) Detox always has a great impact on singers/musicians too! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

It occurs to me that the mix on Kill 'Em All didn't do James much Justice and neither did the doubling of the vocals. I wonders if he would've found himself earlier if he hadn't done that? Also, I don't think his singing sounds as constricted as you portray it even in the older recordings. Nasal, yes, but not that squeezed. My opinion, of course.

@@RockYourBestVocals and thanks for that, I dunno how good it is really but I like you when I'm covering a song I like to try and capture some of those idiosyncrasies and characteristics of the original vocalist. With hetfield once you get those "Ooooh yeeeeyahahs" and a reasonable amount of rasp youre pretty much in the ballpark lol
