    @@doreenclapper1270 as you’re sewing the flaps down, only sew to the dress lining, not through to the outside fabric. If your dress isn’t fully lined, you need to do this with a sewing machine so it looks nicer.

    Do you have tips for doing this with a dress that has two layers, like a built in lining?

  • @NuttyCrafter

    @NuttyCrafter

    Жыл бұрын

    You can still use this method and sew through both layers for a "quick fix". However if you want it to look more professional, you will need to seam rip the layers apart, use this method for both layers separately (with the excess fabric facing each other) then sew the 2 layers together again. This is obviously a bit more time consuming.

  • @NuttyCrafter

    @NuttyCrafter

    4 жыл бұрын

    If the fabric isn't too thick (when you pinch both layers together) you can still use this method as the stitching won't show once the dress is worn. If the layers are thick and would look bulky when pinched, you can carefully separate the lining, do these steps for both layers, then sew them back together. The second option is a bit more tricky but it is the way seamstresses do it. I hope this helps 😊

  • @NuttyCrafter

    For this type of top you can either find a part of the strap which is straight and would align well, or else you might need to trim off a piece from the back (to make it the same width) and then sew together and hem. This is a bit more complicated but it would give a good result.

    First you can cut off the excess strap and when it comes to joining them back together, if the back part is wider than the front part, you can trim the sides of the back part of the strap to get it to the same width. Then you can hem the edges to get a more finished look.
