How To Shoot: Basic Wrestling and BJJ Moves and Technique Tutorials For Beginners

Спорт

Tutorial showing a basic penetration shot or duck walk for beginners. VERY important to shoot correctly. This simple breakdown is in steps to make it easier to understand how you take a shot in wrestling. Subscribe for more wrestling moves/technique videos!
This is for folkstyle and freestyle wrestling, but can also be used in BJJ. Your shot is very important because it is one of the most important attacks from neutral. Your shot is the first thing you should learn from neutral after you have learned a proper stance.
You can always train to improve your shot, and it easy to do because you don't need a partner. A great way to practice is the "duck walk" drill. If you are looking for a video of takedowns with a partner, check out my double leg takedown video.
This video is good for people who are new to wrestling and looking for instruction, for people just beginning or learning wrestling, or for anyone who wants to improve their wrestling basics or fundamentals.

Another thing about getting your knee down is remembering not to plant it. This makes your shoot have less momentum behind it. Try not to just throw your knee down. Try to make your knee into a sliding motion

A move that used to work great for me, since my opponent knew I wasn't going to tie up and was going to shoot for a single leg, was to take a short first step faking a shot on one leg and then actually shooting the other leg. The opponent reactively puts all their weight on the leg I was actually shooting while moving the other back preparing to pancake in defense of my shot. Making it very easy to get the leg and the subsequent takedown.

Nice video.!! One thing young aspiring wrestlers should experiment with is the actual angle of each foot relative to the hips..!! This can be manipulated at will once you gain experience and becomes extremely useful..!! I call it stance transitioning..!! It's all about angles, leading, deception, faints, hip distance, level, and stance transitioning..!! That's what weeds out the great takedown specialists..!!

Chaitanya Chauhan don't worry about it man. Sometimes people forget that not everyone is familiar with US wrestling. CM PUNK and Shawn Michaels perform in pretend (scripted) wrestling.(proffesional wrestling) The focus is on entertainment and telling a story. The outcomes are predetermined. They are actors who are athletic and sacrifice their body for show. The wrestling you see in this video is what we in the states call amatuer wrestling. It is a real legitimate sport.

A few questions (for the uploader or anyone else in the know): 1.) Do shots apply equally to singles in addition to doubles? 2.) If you shoot with your left foot forward, does the principle of "non-stepping foot remains off the mat" still hold true? Thanks.

  • @brucesteinel

    1. No, a single leg shot is a different motion than this shot. This is a double leg/high crotch shot 2. Your shot technique is the same regardless of what foot is forward. Hope this helps.

It does, thank you! So basically the technique's only different when you're shooting for a head outside (as opposed to a high crotch) single?

  • @brucesteinel

***** Nah, I actually meant sweeping shots are different. So sweep single, knee pull single, and high crotch single (although it's a little closer) have more of a sweeping motion than this shot, which is more straight on.

Dropping down to a knee is harmless, and will work on a wrestling matt. But don't try it in a street fight where you're fighting on concrete because then that knee is getting hurt.
