How to setup Structural Engineering calculations - iPad Pro

A short guide on writing structural calculations and how to set them up.
I try and go paperless as much as I can so I write my calculations using my iPad Pro 2020 and goodnotes 5.
The text book I reference in the video is 'Design of Structural Elements' by Chanakya Arya. It is really useful and I still refer back to it from time to time.
Due to requests, here is a dropbox link to the calculation template: www.dropbox.com/sh/zjqbvefcg4...
I am qualified chartered structural engineer in the UK. I am setting up this channel to try and help young and aspiring engineers progress their careers. If you have any questions related to structural engineering or the apps that I am using please leaves me a comment.

I am a young Engineer from Kenya, these sort of tutorials are of immense value, I therefore appreciate you for setting aside time and creating this content. Keep creating, you certainly have a new subscriber. W e have adopted EUROCODES here in our country, I am certainly interested to see more content in that direction. THANK YOU.

Great video for people wanting to go paperless. Something which you may want to make clearer when doing your beam design is the effective length you have taken. You've mentioned that it is an unrestrained beam. So you would need to look at calculating the effective length of the beam depending on the support conditions and whether the load is stabilising or destabilising. In this case, even with he above considered it is most likely deflection based.

if you could, please do a video on the eurocodes and how to apply them, some good textbook suggestions would be much appreciated

For my daily notes I used Notion. I have also used OneNote in the past and that was ok too.

I’m not a structural engineering student but rather just on the general track for civil engineering. My biggest worry about going into the workforce is I won’t remember how to do the calculations. Should I be worried or is there a chance of relearning the calculations needed in the workforce?

I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ll get time to learn on the job but it wouldn’t hurt to get a bit of basic practice beforehand.

I am a structural engineer also and considering purchasing an ipad to do all my calculations digitally. Is it easy to import the company's calc sheet template

Depends if your company has a useable template to import already. I had to make a replica in excel and then export to pdf for me to use in goodnotes.
