How To Set Up Your Spod/Marker Rod - Carp Fishing Quickbite
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
If it’s leading about, using a marker float or spombing out bait, with just one rod, you can do it all!
In this AD Quickbite, Team AD member Chris Ansell shows you how easy it is to use one rod for all three disciplines. Chris shows you the correct way to spool the reel, tie on a shocker leader and the all-important loop knot so that you can change between methods.

that small loop on the end is a great tip!

Makes life so much easier. 👍🏼
Really helpful. Thanks for making the video
Quality presentation Bro but I only go through 3 times with the back to back grinner knot. It just makes the knot a little bit smaller so the line doesn't ever catch on it and I have never had any issues 👍
Im in the market for a spot set up and this is a bug help! thanks Chris

your the best bro honestly. and also u saoun cute when in slow moo
Any issues with the marker float catching on the shock leader knot and failing to rise on deeper swims? Something I’ve definitely encountered using 20lb mono as leader to spot braid. I’ll have to give this a go 👍

Hi Matt, the advantage of using both braided mainline and shock leader is that the knot is much smaller. Also using a marker stem with a nice big run ring helps too. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/korda-marker-stem?queryID=dfa524eafb6f1a2f4f895b6ea9deda0d&objectID=73778&indexName=live_ad_uk_products
Great video. What rod are you using?

Hi James its a Greys GT Distance Marker Rod, I use this for feature finding and spodding. Cheers Chris
Is it worth a neat dab of glue on the leader knot as extra precaution?
@AnglingDirectTV

It won't hurt but I've never had a problem as long as you bed the knot down well before trimming the tag ends. Cheers Chris
Hi! Nice video! So the reel holds 300m of 0.23 braided line without backing? Is that right?

Hi Edgar, correct the braid shown in the video was loaded straight on the XTD Spod reel with no backing.

@@AnglingDirectTV Thank you for useful information!
Quality video. Very useful,but I do have a question that might be obvious. Why do you do the loop to loop in the end of your shock leader for marker float,spomb etc,rather then just tie it to a quick change clip link? Thanks
@AnglingDirectTV

Hi Robert, The main reason for using a large loop rather than a clip is so you can swap between a spod set up to a marker float set up on the same rod.

@AnglingDirectTV thank you. I see what you mean now and watched the video again and paid more attention
Can I use the fox marker float kit and loop to loop like with the lead or spomb ?

Nice video thanks! Can you tell me your braid's mm? Shockleader and leader ty :)

Hi the braid was 0.23mm, the shock leader dosent have a dia but is 30lb

I would say the shock leader's diameter is around 0,28mm 🤔
How do you incorporate a marker float and lead using this system?
@AnglingDirectTV

Hi Bob, you pass the tag (braid) through the lead first, then through the buffer bead. To attach the float pass the tag through the swivel and loop it over the float like you would the Spomb. Finally pull the bead down to the float.
just got me my first spod rod so i have to get the barrd leader can i use my coated braid i use for my riggs?

Hi, no you need to use a braid shock leader like Korda arma kord 30lb
What breaking strain of shock leader do you use
@AnglingDirectTV
Жыл бұрын
Hi Andante, a braided shock leader of around 30-40lb is perfect. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/korda-arma-kord?queryID=99476e64a4b103691e5d84f213bd541e&objectID=22931&indexName=live_ad_uk_products
I’ve done it but trouble is I’ve got a big knot on my reel where the 2 braids join, will that effect my casting?
@AnglingDirectTV
Жыл бұрын
Hi Connor, The knot should pull down tight and be relatively small, if you have a large knot I would surject trying again. Regards, Steve.
One question how do you tie the marker and the led on at the same time
@Urbanvik1ng
25 күн бұрын
It's a running lead just slip it on the line before u tie the marker float on
@jdubbz92
25 күн бұрын
@@Urbanvik1ng so it just free runs on the line?
@Urbanvik1ng
25 күн бұрын
@@jdubbz92 yes m8 then when u give line by pulling from your reel the lead stays put on the ground and the line is free to pass until Ur marker float comes to the surface,also you will no how deep the water is using this method
@jdubbz92

@Urbanvik1ng this is a great tip thankyou, I got it all tied up with the two knots now to test this
what does the shock leader do
@AnglingDirectTV

Without a shock leader the force of a big cast could cause thinner braid to break. The advantage of thinner braid with a shock leader is that you can cast much further with ease.
What reel is that?

Hi Fozzy, Chris was using the Shimano Ultegra XTD spod reel. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/shimano-ultegra-xtd-spod-reel?queryID=4b5a6463bb6ddf1ca386b8e4f8a6699d&objectID=69618&indexName=live_ad_uk_products
Ok, but what to do when that fine braid hit clip...its gone...you must make some suspension of mono.
@AnglingDirectTV
Жыл бұрын
Hi egons7957, We recommend either 20lb or 25lb spod braid for the reel. You would have to hit the line clip very hard to cause it to break. It's good practice to feather the line down as you reach the end of the cast to cushion the impact on the line clip. Hope this helps?
Filled my reel with braid and its starting to go over the lip at the bottom of the spool 😢

Sounds like you over filled the spool Danny. It pays to slightly under fill when using braid. This will reduce wind knots 👌
Not allowed to use braid on the lake I use.

Hi Hatchie, It might be worth double checking as several lakes ban braided mainline, but allow you to use braid on spot sand marker float rods.
