I’m not sure of the extent of the ditch you’ve made; but just be sure no run off from nearby fields can end up in it with nasty fertilisers or chemicals that could potentially kill your stock.
From the start multiple people tried to point out inconsistencies in the process of the dig. The entire area needed to be excavated and then the clay needed to be brought back in and spread/compacted over the entire bottom of the pond. The banks also needed to be sloped correctly and rip rap places around the waterline edge to prevent erosion. You’re learning some expensive lessons. Your fish selection is also going to pose some serious pond damage concerns as well, Carp are notorious for digging and eroding banks, they’ll also muddy the entire pond water as they dig and stir up silt. The topsoil layer could also be sealed using a polymer added to the pond and also bentonite clay broadcasted around the pond edge to seal off the topsoil interface layer.

Yep and sub soil should be as far away from the trench as it is deep minimum. seen a guy break his femur and ankle in a trench just under chest height! Side collapsed crushed his leg, you would be surprised how heavy meter square chunk sub spoil clay is when it lands on ya leg😅

Buy inter tube cut 30 cm length. Use cable tie to block one end from second end put valve with cable tie. Insert this inside pipe and inflate. You will block them and use concrete to solid block them. Job done

Seems a bit of a massive oversight not noticing you had land drains running the length of your pond? That should have been something easy to spot at the initial digging phase also it sounds like who ever put in the clay blanket did a crap job at that too if you have topsoil layers leaking out water.

Fairplay to you for the hard work you have put into this place it will all be worth it in the end
A carp water should have a lot of time to establish before even fish going into it. Not enough established foliage around the banks, critical for spawning months has they will cut them selfs on rough banks . On top of this fish will be stressed they need time to settle and nature will create natural hiding spots which make them happy also. A lesson to anyone wanting to do this. Do not rush has you will make more mistakes and you will have happy fish, so will lose less and be richer for it .
Mate have a chat to youtuber BamaBass. He had a similar problem with his pond and used this new powder that you apply all over the pond and it seals all the leaks. It is also fish friendly so it wont harm them. It worked wonders for him. He has a whole video on it and how to apply it.
Nature is beautiful and complex and you've found out the hard way it's not so easy to replicate. I hope you manage to overcome the issues you're facing.
These videos have been so good to watch! Lake looks awesome 👌🏼🎣
Concrete does not need to be in a dry space, how do you think they build piers? concrete setting is a chemical reaction it does not 'dry'. Suggest you research the chemicals, readily available, you can use to add to underwater concrete.

Tbf I actually thought they put something like a big metal tube or pipe down into the sea bed then empty the water out then fill it with concrete
@philipglancy8593
25 күн бұрын
So I've just looked it up and I'm not far off correct, they used what's called a coffer dam or sheet piling.... Basically pile into the sea bed, then empty the water out so they can work inside
@davidoldboy5425
25 күн бұрын
@@philipglancy8593 They do use cofferdams (all one word) and piles, but what our ancestors did long ago was just chuck cement bags in the sea, and they set. Nowadays concrete is usually pumped into a space ready for it with reinforcement and vibrated to get air pockets out. The main point is the chemical reaction, not 'drying' as with paint.
@315para

You can also add additives like UCS from sika which stops fines washout and aids cohesion of the mix and variuous other benefits.This is used on piling in pourous ground to piers and bridge repairs, etc. This would have to be used with a super plas like vs3000 also as you want it wet but not separating, which is key to the reaction not only working but the concrete also having integrity.
I have never fished or have an interest in fishing really BUT this is absolutely fascinating. Such a shame it didnt go to plan but you will soon sort it.
can't wait to fish this mate, keep up the great work!
Ahh mystery leaks and erosion, a thing I know all too well. We had some gigantic boulders put in on the windward end of one of our lakes to try and slow the erosion, next thing we knew the lake had dropped 8ft and we couldn't work out whether it was just evaporation from the stinking hot summer or whether we'd sprung a leak. Ultimately it was a bit of both, the excavation work had exposed a seam in the side of the china clay pit which was working its way unseen along the seam to rather confusingly join with the trench for the outflow pipe about 50m downstream from the lake. It took bloody months of digging holes to find out where the water was going
Expanding Stoppers also know as drain plugs or bungs, are used for pipes and ducts in the size range from 1/2″ (12mm) to 48″ (1200mm). Just push it in , tighten the screw , job done....
These videos are amazing

Mate, I would LOVE to see more videos from you. Sitting here in New Zealand and winter has arrived so I need to find other options of fishing. Request: Can you please make your content/videos longer - I'm sure you can :) Can I request more videos as waiting 4 weeks for 10 min video is not fear to the wider public :) Thank you for all the hard work you put in. I have a pond smaller than yours :) Cheers Brother
If you continue to get leak issue or erosion problems have a look at a product called concrete canvas. I used it where I had issues with field drains coupled with erosion and cray fish burrowing. It initially stopped all leaks on its own but eventually water found a way under but I then puddled clay over the top and its been good for a few years now and hopefully many more 🤞
Keep going, im looking forward to visiting, as long as you allow doggies ❤
The bright side of the erosion problem is that over time, your pond will become a lake 😉

There are products you can add to the lake, they find the leak and clump up and block the leak, BamaBass had the same leaking issue on his lake and it worked, might not work for you but might be worth looking at.

a quick observation when the water from the field runs in it looks very muddy will this fill your lake back in over time or will u filter it before it reaches the lake in the future ? well done for keeping on keeping on tho powerful and a great attitude
Ben if you fill the trench with concrete with bond crete it will seal it...
Clay and sheep mate, have to drain it though. Put down a layer of clay then get the sheep to walk all over it. It’s the old way of doing it.
You really needed boarding in the water about 10 ft from the bank to control the waves filled with reed. Really sorry for you and those fantastic drains. Whoever installed them did a great job. I fear water pressure might undermine the concrete. Good luck.
Can you do a video explaining how you got so rich?
Why can I see this going from bad to worse, 😕 1 bad winter and floods or freezing over in the winter months leaving it profit less 🤔
Inspirational and entertaining. So many people want their own business but very few have your resilience and energy. Stick with it. I like the catch app but just like ‘ hot Fishin’ it falls short of what the angler, commercial fishery and suppliers need. I’m happy to share the vision and roadmap.
Concrete setting is a chemical process, not a drying... will set under water
By dry space I'm guessing he means there needs to be no water movement while the concrete sets as it'll create it's own path past/round the concrete before it goes off.
Looks a nice pond/lake I thought you might of had an island in it though 🤷♂️
Flair should be your best friend doing this project brother
That is the thing with making Ponds, the survey needs to be thorough and as you paid for it then the Surveyor is at fault and you should claim Compensation. well at least in the UK it will fill up in no time for Free
According to your measuring stick at 1:58, you're about 7 feet tall!
Nothing to your scale but I'm digging a pond , can I ask where you got the bentonite clay matting and the green matting on the bank. Cheers and good luck 👍
Hi where did you get the clay matting from? I have a major leak in my lake and think this matting would help Look forward to your reply
This popped on my feed randomly and it's like 20 minutes away from me I love fishing. Especially carp, on a float or waggler. I do have another hobby tho, metal detecting. If you ever wonder what kind of history your land holds, you can give me a reply and I can e-mail you to speak about the details. Very promising area full of roman,saxon and celtic history :)) You never know, maybe you will pay for your lake or second lake after my first visit :)) Good luck!
Seems like a lot of things were missed/overlooked etc on the initial planning of this project. Was the advice incorrect, or the work implemented not done to correct standards? i would be worried about the property that is lower than the lake, if things are going this way. Are the fixes being made long term, or will they need to implemented again in the near future? Lots of questions...
Kevin seems like a top bloke :)
Be careful of putting your hand into a pipe or drain where there could be a difference in pressure check out Delta P
cofferdam sheet pile the edge discharging the water, whilst bentonite matting works it wont last forever.
Feel bad for you we had water running through the soil
You build ponds like you drive lambo's brah 😅😅
and you thought otters where going to be a problem .i hope you fix it ,ATB
Cannot believe you missed that it is what it is be ok.
When white horse contracting did the lake I was working at they had to line it with 3ft thick of clay even up the banks. They said they do it with every lake they do. A company built a new reservoir in farmore and that’s leaking now.

As a relatively new course angler, I’ll never understand the “swim” vs “peg” debate. To me the fishing area you sit at is the peg, whereas the areas you fish to are the swims. Is this different for carp fishing?
@ChrisShortyAllen

There never has been a debate. Pegs are drawn. Swims fished. Never sit in your swim and cast to your peg.

I have been looking something to help me with my pond in the garden not the same I know but have just found out about bentonite clay, it looks like it could be of help to you?
My 9yo just asked why I’m watching kaleb on KZread 😂😂😂
Surely you just use a pipe bung instead of clay ? You can get ones that inflate in the pipe or expanding ones then cap the pipe
Shame I didn't see your post earlier - dowsing L rods work really well for finding leaks! All you need to do is walk around the lake with them and they show you.

Old skool way
would be easier just too drain it now its the dry season and start again..
Use portland cement.... 100k for a hole with water in it.... 😂
Could you not dig down behind the swim to find the land drain and block it there as opposed to destroying the swim?
Should have put an inflatable inside the tube and inflated it to block the drain then concrete.
Mate you know what you need to build next to relax you ? A koi pond ❤🐟 I’ve got koi to give you for free to help the channel
Why wouldn't you check the lake for holes after dug and before filling?...serious lack of logic there
