Ben, its gonna cost you, but you will have to drain that lake before removing anything, but once the lake is drained you need to take advantage of the situation and clean EVERYTHING out, sort out the banks properly, and start from scratch. It's a mission i know, but once its done properly you'll never have to worry about it again. Just get it done. You got this!
Hi Ben, another tree guy here. You could hire a remote control machine that's 2 tonnes and has a low impact footprint. They come with 3 ton winches on, be cheaper and less intrusive then a Valtra and large chipper. To be honest those trees are so dead you could just wade through the silt once it's drained and use a chainsaw, pretty cheap and easy.
One thing to think about with dragging them out (which ain't easy) tree roots extend down and out about twice the height of the tree. This could possibly cause great damage to the lake bed causing it to leak, you know all about this 😀
Rob Hughes is an awesome man. I have watched his vids - first definition of charisma.
Drain it. Net it. Pull the trees. While no water sort out banks and swims. Re fill and boom . Sounds easy from us in the chat lol. Best of luck fella . You do what's best . 😊

That’s a lot of water to drain good luck with that
Looks a banging little lake mate, hope it all works out to become a cracking little fishery!
14:44 if you get a long chain in between 2 tractors and drag it from the sides, just make sure it’s weighted in the middle, or drag a harrow through it a few times. all the best.
Go for it ben thats a nice looking lake, hope planning goes ok

There is something worse, trust me, I lost all my carp to otters. You need to fence it and electrify it if you don't want the same. Dale
Another interesting video for anglers who might not fully understand the work required to maintain a lake. I was lucky enough to meet Rob Hughes when he was filming on a lake I was fishing. Lovely guy - he is exactly as you see him on TV, a big personality and all round decent bloke.
I actually enjoy watching your content. I’ve Found myself a new channel! You’re a genuine bloke and 10/10
Well done Ben, at least when you drain the lake you will get a better look and can see it's features & scaping, together with any other potential hazards. It does sound like a bigger operation than what I initially thought may happen, but hopefully the lake is not now a lost cause.
2 bulldozers with a huge anchor chain on hubs between em. Drag the bastard! 😂
Ask around in your area for any scuba divers. Some might be experienced and willing enough to help you dive down and cut the branches and send them up on air bags.
I love the quote. Went from 2 grand to 3 grand to 4 grand (per day) in about 2 seconds. Hilarious
ideal lake for a predator fishery
Best of luck Ben what ever you decide to do!! really enjoy watching your flims
I find your videos so interesting mate. Keep up the good work...
WoW Ben, that is interesting. looking forward to seeing you drain that lake and see what you find in it.
You can do it! Drain it and you will have a full understanding of the lake and it’s features.
Did you consider the new Deeper Bait Boat? You can set it to automatically map the lake which would tell you everything about depths, composition of the bottom, snags and weed etc.
Really hope u get this sorted Ben.
My guy, get your camera op a polarising filter. Will make a world of difference when filming water and sky.

Looks absolutely mega!
Just take an anchor attached to a big chain and drag it out with a tractor. Like dredging a swim with a rake to get weed out.
Definitely do-able. Will make a stunning pit
I enjoyed this video! Very interesting
Cracking video really insightful! I had a big Carp on recently got me in some snags and snapped my line…. Gutted! I know it was a big un straight away. Alll the best ….Smithy
For the trees to grow to any size the water must have been lower for some considerable time before it rose to it's present level. Do you know what has caused the change in level? If any groundwork was done to create the lake in the first place, I would have thought that the trees would have been removed beforehand. You need to be sure that the reverse doesn't happen and cause the level to drop.
Looking good
Been looking forward to an update on this venue Great to meet you at drivetribe thanks for signing my lads skateboards all the best

it be nice if someone even if its not yourself sorts this lake out, an extra venue is always welcome even though im in lincolnshire. it seems like its a wasted bit of water otherwise
I hope you guys can do it as it look a great place. But as we all know. Applications take ages.
Not surprised that most people going to fish everywhere else in Europe😅. UK lakes are mostly like a bowl - flat on the bottom (no snags or so) and small. I don't see the problem with the lake at the moment. You have everything. The only problem that this lake have is no trees on the edge. I can't imagine at 30 degrees with no natural shadow... and yes, you can put a bivvy, but its not the same without trees. I want who asking the snags to be removed, to take a look at Rainbow (France). 😅😂

he won't have any fish left if he made it a day ticket with those snags. snags are great for anglers and carp love them but terrible for anyone trying to run a business.

Well said. Current swimming pool environments and then moaning when fish cant get away from predators is a joke. The only benefit is at least we know where all the muppets are and additionally they are fenced in
I've fished some snag pits but this takes the biscuit 🍪 😮
0:23 hell yes, I've wanted a lake for years but unable to find one 😫
i live in cheltenham and im looking forward to coming down at some point for a days fishing
To be fair draining it isnt a bad option cuz youll be starting on a clean slate and if it is a old gravel pit the bottom will be hard enough for machines to track out into as well as it wont be a silty mess
Chain/Cable drag the lake. Heavy earth machinery with a winch will do it easy.

😂😂😂 You done what I done and thought that scuba diving was just a case of putting a mask and fins and air tank on your back. I am now a qualified scuba diver. Benedict you should go get qualified in scuba diving. Swimming around with the fish is an absolute amazing experience 👍🏻😁👌🏻
But i thought you want structure for bait fish to have safe spaces to get away from predators. So we have people here in the states dumping tons of debri in ponds and in the UK people are paying to remove structure😂.
Solo diving in trees. Is that BSAC cert?
Good luck With the planning permission They should give it to you As you are trying to improve the lake If they don't then they are crazy
@36ydna
3 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, when it comes to planning permission improving a property does not come into it. The reasons for giving planning permission, or not giving it can be completely random. The best you can do is try to work as closely as possible with the planning board and ask them what they would like to see.

How's removing all aspects of a natural environment, fencing it in from the wildlife that relies on it, introducing a invasive species and then dying it blue so not even weed grows in it an improvement then?
Another Great Video Ben! If you need any assistance with any of your lakes I own a company called Simply Aquatic. Happy to have a chat and offer some advice if you need it. We also have a KZread channel too. Can't wait for the next video...
Massive chain and 2 d8 dozers
Wow Ben is as tall as a tree 🌴 😂
Have you seen that Oxlease at Linear is for sale?
could you not pair the dive gear and the winch together to drag the tree out by diving down and attaching a winch cable to it so you don't need to drain the lake?
was fishing with rob last week
Umm you could use a fishing sonar, to easily map the bottom and all trees.
Big heavy chain, 2 x bulldozers - Bobs your uncle...

As someone who's both not an American and live on the coast. It's wild to think people pay to go fishing somewhere. (Yes I know about fishing licenses for sea fishing) But paying to just be in the area for the day is wild

Do you think these fish magically appeared? Or did Ben pay for the fish out of his own money? Ah yes.
@badhabit6140
3 күн бұрын
@@DlZZEE ive went my whole live never seeing anything like it so it was just jarring to see that people pay for the privelege to fish. Here it's treated like a range. You pay for what you caught, not to be there for the day. At least in the areas you do pay. The bit that's wild to me is that you guys pay regardless if you caught something or not
@kaneeforsterite9332

@@badhabit6140the carp fishing industry has absolutely milked the situation. To be fair though if we treated it like a range as such, there wouldn’t be any fish left within a year or 2. It’s only a small country with a huge population
@badhabit6140
3 күн бұрын
@@kaneeforsterite9332 ranges don't let people just hunt whenever and however. They have seasons when you are allowed to or not depending on a number of things. breeding seasons, population and a few other. So you can't go fishing whenever nor can you catch whatever or how many ever. The farmer would put restrictions or certain species or maybe outright ban others from being fished. And they give out incredible fines if you break them
Lake or flooded field?
The expensive fish bit made me laugh
This must be an opportunity for beavers surely. Make some nice coats in a few years time. Sorted.
Carnt you drain the lake and clear it all then re fill
I don't get it, here in the states, "snags" are the best place to find the big fish and the most fish. People actually place things in there on purpose so the biggest ones have a place to hide. Also, here in Wisconsin specifically, carp are a nuisance. Literally thrown away. Not something I condone but thats what they do. Do you not have game fish there? Just a little confused. But like what your doing there. Trying to make sense of it all for myself.
@carper1993
3 күн бұрын
Carp are big, fight hard, all look unique and can be extremely hard to catch. Yes we have game fish but carp are more popular due to the above reasons. Snags like this are a problem because this lake will be a day ticket lake fished by anglers with all sorts of experience levels and so could lead to lost tackle and potentially tethered fish.
The only way youll ever make that a fishery is to drain and remove any other option want work.
You just need to get an under water chain saw
My dream
Snatch block time. Now we're talking.
I downloaded the app but nothing in Ireland came up
Did you see any lumps?
If it can be winched out from the bank in the dry, it can be winched out in the wet? How much for a couple of divers to attach the straps for 4 days?

Just drain the lake and spend a week pulling trees.Easy enough job and that lake would make a great fisherie.
Ben research chain clearing. Have a dozer on each side of the lake and a chain between them it will tear everything out and save you having to drain and refill.

UNDERWATER CHAINSAW, DIVER DOWN CHOPEM AT BOTTOM THEM BULLDOZER PULL EM OUT. BOOM!!!
Two tractors and a heavy chain. Thank me later.....
Snags are not a issue they are a habitat. Anglers that can't deal with them are the issue. What do people want a bloody swimming pool with a diver hooking caged fish so you can say "I caught a 40!'.....carp angling sucks balls
Ive seen old steam engines just pulling trees out of ponds their whinches are massively powerful
You are removing structure for the welfare of the fish?
but…why buying a lake ? just for fun? resell for more money?
to many fisheries in the uk are baron no snags no weed dyed blue no life other than stocked fish you seen a problem I seen uk rainbow 🌈
Can't you just cut the trees I'm probably being stupid but is there any such thing as an underwater chainsaw
