First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to create and produce a series of videos in what is sure to be a great asset to the rc community. If I may tho, I have a few constructive suggestions that I hope will help with the production of your videos: (bear with me) #1 Slow down. Take a breath after each sentence (or two). This will give the viewer time to digest the information you are trying to provide. It will also give you time to think about what you want to say next, and you'll be less likely to forget a point you wanted to make. #2 If your video is entitled "How to Setup Plane X", then you should probably actually go through the steps in setting up "Plane X". It's most likely viewers that are new to this information who have tuned in to your video (again, based on the title) who really don't know all the steps and will just hit "X" in the upper right corner as soon as you start getting "antsy" (and/or bored) and say things like "well, I'm not going to go into that... You guys know what to do..." NO. We may not know. That's why we are watching YOUR video. Maybe you could edit down, or speed up some of the truly tedious parts (like entering the model names, etc). #3 And lastly, put the transmitter down. It's REALLY hard to see what you are trying to point out when the transmitter is in your hand and you keep shaking it and moving it all over the place. Okay, I hope I didn't come across too harshly. I think you have a good presence, as well as the enthusiasm to be a great YT personality. Keep up the great work and thank you for your videos! Sincerely, Dennis (subscriber)

Thanks for these videos, they are a huge help. I am a drone pilot. I fly DJI Mavic Minis and a DJI Mavic 2 Pro. I also have a few CineWhoop's and two 5" acro drones that I built. I've been flying them for about 3-4 years now. I started with a Jumper T16, but soon after bought the RadioMaster TX16S Max. I love my TX16S! I am new to fixed wing flight and I cannot wait to get my new plane in the air; it's a Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5. I wanted to use my TX16S, but I kept seeing videos saying you can't completely configure a Spektrum plane with TX16S because there are some things you cannot do with OpenTX. So I figured I would have to buy a DX6 or NX6 to be able to fly the plane the way it was meant to be flown. And now here you are showing me I can use my TX16S Max. The only thing I have left is to figure out flap configuration and the radio will be 100% ready to fly my new plane. Did you ever do a video on configuring flaps for Spektrum receivers on a TX16S? Thanks for these tutorials!

Yeah, essentially you can still use AS3X but safe functionality is a No-go without a genuine spectrum transmitter. Flap functionality is found in the AUX channels accordingly in the receiver, and you can look up any OpenTX flap tutorial for insight. hope it helps!

Thank you, this seems to have worked for me with a Radiomaster Zorro running EdgeTX. The only 2 quirks are 1) the lights don't change on the receiver when switching flight modes like they do when using a Spektrum radio (blue/red/purple), and 2) when I switch from one of the self level flight modes to no bank angle limit (AS3X only) it takes about a second to register the change, but seems to work ok apart from that. I haven't test flown it yet but it seems to work on the bench.

Thanks but when you say that you have set a switch for channel 6 as FLIGHT MODE do you mean that that channel switch is for the AS3X stabilization mode? Therefore channel 5 switch is for PANIC mode and channel 6 is for AS3X stabilization mode.

I bought a TX16s and a friend of mine has a Spektrum AR637T he isn't using and is willing to give it to me to see if I can get it to work with my TX16s. My question is how does one program the AR637T? I watched a video setting up a FrSky S6R with a TX16s and calibrating the S6R was pretty straight forward. Knowing Spektrum I'm sure they made the process harder & more clandestine. Great video BTW and I agree with the fellow who suggested to slow down a bit.

It will bind up, and you can use as3x I believe, but on those RXes no safe. That’s the consensus at least.

I would say the lemon is your best bet, if you are looking to keep it cheap, then the aura 5.

Great video. I just got a used eflight wildcat EFLU3650. I have a T12 plus with open TX, How do i ding it to get the stanbilization active....i am not sure if it has apanic but i know that i have 3 modes...how doi do those? Thanks ALex

I don’t have a lot of experience with this, to be honest. this is the only plane I have with stabilization. If the flight stabilization system is onboard the plane and addressed via switches, you can set that up in the mixer tab. If it’s something more, I don’t have a lot of experience with anything else like it, sorry. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this video. Great job. Can you do a video on how to do a three position switch for flaps? I’m trying to get a Timber X properly setup. Flaps work but start high (like spoilers)

Sounds like whatever switch is assigned is going all the way to -100, I'm mew to this also, but I think if your minimum is 0, mid is 15-20% and full at 30-35%, should work as flaps.

Just curious about the MPM firmware channel order. It looks like you kept the default AETR order and when you bind to DSM2 or DSMX, the MPM maps the inputs to the correct outputs. Is that correct? When the Jumper T16 came out, people were saying we MUST use the TAER firmware because the AS3X gyros wouldn't know what to do if it was in AETR order. If we can keep it in 5the default AETR order with the MPM handling the correct outputs, it will be so much easier! BTW, I think the DSM2, DSMX and DSM RX (used for trainer mode) are works in progress. They've been changing some things having to do with Auto (possibly renaming this term), binding in 22ms and 11ms and possibly other things. I believe they were saying something about the 22ms option disappeared in one revision and we should use auto to let the Tx and Rx handshake to determine the best options? Not too clear on this but it looks like the MPM folks are trying to simplify this for those of us who are transitioning from Spektrum radios.

Good point. I have heard about that, however I have yet to have an issue on the Sport Cub S. Might depend on the plane and RX. This method worked great for me, but we will see what other comments say about issues that occur. Yeah that would be a really big help to have an auto feature. Maybe not as much for like you and me who know our way around frame rates and protocols, but as you said, the beginners transitioning from spektrum radios could truly benefit from it! Thanks for the input!

I watched your basic setup video also. Did you have to add ch 5 and 6 to your input list before you went to mixing list in this video? Cant get my umx Gee Bee to respond SAFE / panic mode on ch 5 switch doing what you show in this video. The AS3X seems to be on as i see the minor movements in control surfaces as you move plane, but no panic response when ch 5 sw is moved while in wonky attitude. Thanks!

@@CustomFPV i tried setting up a newer model (umx A10) that was just released. The SAFE function worked fine. Might be a difference in the way they built the dms receivers over time.

I would assume so. I don't have any planes like that, however one thing you can do to determine it is to go ahead and start assigning switches and see which switches control each channel, then go from there. Let me know how it goes!

Not aure the AS3x will work on certain spektrum receivers that require a special usb peograming cable like the AR636.

95% of this applies to EdgeTX, it’s almost exactly the same as openTX. Other commenters have mentioned trouble getting all the SAFE and AS3X tech to work properly with the tx16s. I’m pretty sure you could fly the consendo but I’m not sure if you’ll have all the smart features.

Addition: I have bound my conscendo evo and tx16s using the eachine mini warbird as a template then adapting the protocol to suit. I had to reverse a couple of servos but that was it. Safe and AS3X working fine. Thanks again for the info.

Yes, correct. If you bind a 3 position switch to ch5 (i believe) you will have all 3 modes

I think the TX16S is the best, got the Multi protocol module, will bind to literally any rx you want, even well into the toy grade stuff. Not to mention 16 channels, openTX, Color touch screen, and so much more. Don't forget this is all in the $100-$150 range....It just makes sense.

Great video but on my Sport Cub S2, I can get all 3 flight modes working on ch5, but soon as I apply throttle, I lose all SAFE functions and the light inside goes red, cannot go to blue or purple. Have you ever experienced this?

This is the only model I have had success getting safe to work w the TX16s. my ec1500 and other HH models safe doesn’t work. My understanding is that there isn’t really a fix for it.

For me the light doesn't work inside, but the SAFE functions work for all 3 settings. So your video does work! I got the safe select to work on my Turbo Timber umx, but I've yet to work on my Carbon Cub s2, I'm sure it'll work all 3 settings just like the Sport Cub S2

I don’t have much experience with it... it works fine on here but others have told me the integration isn’t great, as it doesnt have the spektrum proprietary tech onboard. if you want a radio that integrates with that, I would get a spektrum. I don’t use safe so the radiomaster is great for me.

What if you were using all 6 channels already, for flaps and gear?

Well, If I am understanding correctly, that means you would need to use Ch7-8 for modes and panic, assuming your RX is 8ch

Others have noted similar things in the comments but no real consensus has been reached. It may only work with some, not with others. Not sure why this is. Worked great for me on both my horizon planes.

Should be close to similar, don’t have a lot of experience with that RX, but if you use DSMX to bind and assign channels to switches you should be in good shape.

my local hobby shop told me that if i bought the tx16s transmitter it wont bind in a receiver that has as3x and safe technology and if it did it wont be functional is that correct? or was he just trying to upsell to on buying a spektrum transmitter. please help

It should bind fine, I have no experience really but it worked fine just by assigning channels to switches to control the features. all the as3x and safe hardware is built into the plane, not in the TX, so he was more than likely up selling you.

I live in canada and dx6e cost me 250$ which is around 190$ usd. Is it better to buy a tx16s than a “more user friendly” transmitter (dx6s) cuz i just got it today and i can return it and get the tx16

And also is you said safe and as3x is on the receiver meaning any type of transmitter it doesnt matter it would be always there (if you want to active it of course) right?

I think they are both great, the DX6 will be much better and easier to set up. However If you think you will take advantage of the extra features the Radiomaster brings to the table then go for it, but it will be much harder to tune and get it to function as you want. If you are only flying spektrum as3x and things like that, the user friendly ness of the dx6 is a major advantage

Yeah, it won’t be as easy to set up but it should be possible, i don’t have much experience though, I don’t fly safe or as3x.

What about blade helis? Will I have full functioning? I really don't want to buy a dx6/dx8 when then is twice as cheap.

Yes it will, however you may need to work with the channel mapping a bit. I know that you can make it work though. I’m going to make a video with my inductrix and see how it goes

@@helichuck1 yes it worked great with my 230, although I've moved on to both the OMPs....M2 ,M1. and the Eachine direct drives'. Now I'm waiting on my Align T15. The Radio master is in a league of it's own and I'm sure the Jumper line of radios are just as good along with the Tarranis transmitters.

doesnt work with AR637TA ......that comes in the timber x or conscendo ..any ideas Noah.....thanks

Interesting, no experience with those in particular, but it worked great on the Sport Cub S, and it seems other people have found success with theirs as well. maybe try different switches, and adjusting the range and throw of the switches in the output tab, not sure.

@@CustomFPV for the throttle to be armed or disarmed. Flip switch one way to keep throttle from turning motor and switch the other way for the motor to run. I just having lots of problems with my tx16. My module blinks also saying it is recommended to update my version which I have tried doing and didn’t work. Also, when turning radio on it saids SD card needs to be updated. Tried that too and didn’t work. I have watched videos on how to do both but not working.
