Good safety points. I do inside 25 yard traditional archery for 3D shoots. A 2'X12" piece of glue backed carpet rolls into a nice sized animal torso. Hang from a tree or on the ground, arrow pull easy enough, inexpensive, long lasting. Spray paint for weather resistance. enjoy. Visit the Honey Island Shooting Range in the Pearl River Wildlife Management near Pearl River, Louisiana.

Thanks! This is a nice quick guide. My problem is more like building the target itself from local materials as rainheart targets are not available in panama or are insurmountably expensive. Just today i was hunting for eva foam or scraps of plastic wrappings to use as target filing. Soon i will be able to use a piece of land i have outside the city and my first handy job will be to set up 18, 30 and 50 meter targets like this!

You just need the one target butt - mark your distances in the ground. If you can find yoga Matt like material (so yeah, eva foam sheets) you can stack them one on top of the other and then somehow compress them - we commonly used ratchet straps/tie down straps with the clicky tightening mechanism

Great video especially in this difficult situation.... however, will you create a video specifically for getting the elbow behind the arrow line soon(flexibility and stuff)? that would be extremely helpful for guys like me who wants to improve the overall form.,..... thanks

I've moved to an indoor 24 hour range because of the temperatures here in Canada. I seem to have a pretty good left right alignment down the centre but I often have a pretty wild spread up-and-down. I have a clicker and my arrows are cut to length so there's a consistent release and draw length, so I think it has to do with my head position but wondered if you would consider making a video on what might be causing problems up-and-down.

Ah very cool... nice setup you got there! Would you ever make some sort of cover over the top of your target to preserve it for longer? I suppose the answer to that question might change depending on if you are shooting 18m as opposed to dropping arrows in from 70m.

I have seen it done and considered it for this video but not for the moment. It has been out in the brutal Florida weather since 2013 and still kicks butt.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery Oh wow... I didn't know it was that old... If that fact isn't the best endorsement that exists for Rinehart's manufacturing and materials I don't know what is. I have gone through 2 targets since covid that have fallen apart on me, and were under cover from rain... the newest one has replacement cores but I am going through a new core every 3 weeks or so... ridiculous. I should just bite the bullet and spend the extra money and get a solid target I KNOW will last so I can just stop dealing with it.

What are you using for a bail

This is a Rinehart WAVE target. They are not cheap but this has been out in the Florida sun and rain without cover since 2013/2014.

Man you have given me new life with all your programs and how eagerly you share your love of this sport . Like I said before in other comments I'm a disabled veteran mostly wheelchair bound but can stand for short periods of time them back to chair for a rest but this activity is helping me with motor function muscle building and more so thank you very much for all you do

Each target butt outdoors shall be set up at an angle of between 10 and 15 degrees from vertical and between 0 and 10 degrees indoors, but a line of target butts shall be set up all at the same angle.

I wonder If it's possible to make one with structural steel studs and machine grease. The grease would be for rust resistance. Any thoughts?

yes it is possible but ... with wood you have ... a slightly better chance that your arrow will survive a hit on the structure and ... most important ... it stuck in wood but will be reflected as hell in any direction when hits steel :)

@@Freespirit77Gaming Tested it out. 5 junky arrows. You are 100% right. HDF 7" thick with netted mesh at face below target face. Structural steel stud: tiny dents -Arrow point chipped or intact but remained imbeded in the foam -Shaft at tip cracked -Shaft at middle no visible damage -Shaft at knock cracked Knocking pin missing or partially in the shaft. Knock shattered only found half of it. In one case it was just gone. I'd like to retest this with a high speed camera.

i dont know much about archery but one thing i know is tree work .. be careful standing on a ladder cutting limbs at full extension of your arms... many homeowners have been injured or even killed by a limb that is to heavy for them to hold hinging down once cut and knocking the ladder out from under them... the pole saw is the best thing i understand how it is to not be able to find it when you need it ...

i inherted an old #27 target recurve from my dad he said he used it to compete when he was in high school and always bragged about getting a 360 at 50 yards in some tornument not like i know what that means but im 50 years old so i figure that bow is from the early 1960's one day me and my freind were watching some hunting show and guy shot a deer with a #50 compound at like 40 yards and everyone there said it couldn't be done and like no thats easy so the next day we got some cardboard and foam and made a target butt mesureing 48 inches by 48 inches and set it up at olymipic 70 meters and started shooting by the end of the day i could get 6 arrows on it and by on it i mean some where on the 48 inches and it loft there like 30 feet in the air to get there and a little breeze can move it like 5 feet on its way there. I used to shoot with my dad when i was a teenager thinking back it couldn't have been more than 20 yards but back then i got pretty good at it. anyways long story short i've been shooting that bow for 6 months now cause i cant rifle shoot until covid leaves and the long distances range open up. I'm thinking of getting #35 olypic style bow that should make it a little easier to get to 70 meters

Is that a rubber foam ? What sort of foams would you recommend.

That is a target called the FITA Wave Target by Rinehart if you want to look more into it. They describe it as their "Signature Series high density foam."

Why foam and not cardboard?

For the target? He leaves it out in all weathers and cardboard does not react well when wet. Foam targets generally also have better stopping power, especially when using higher powered bows. Then there are the bugs he was talking about, I don't live there so can't say for sure, but there's a good chance if they eat wood they might make short work of cardboard as well and you'd need to be constantly replacing it, where foam targets last for years.

In the USA, cardboard can be obtained for the low low price of free :) And it's biodegradable (after a couple years) :D !!!!

@@social3ngin33rin And each time it rains getting the materials, then making it into something you can shoot at takes time. Time you could otherwise use actually shooting. It comes down to what is more important to you time or money. Unless you live somewhere with VERY little rainfall it would become rather tedious very quickly if you shoot multiple times a week, as most people seriously into the sport do.
