How To Set Up A Seated Calf Raise With A Barbell
Seated calf raise is a great exercise. In fact, it is the only one that effectively stimulates the soleus muscle in the lower leg. However, if training at home or in a gym that doesn't have a seated calf machine, you don't want to neglect this body part (especially if you are a bodybuilder).
In this video, I demonstrate how to set up seated calf raises using a barbell and a rack so you can make sure to give proper attention to your calf development.

This is the best example I have seen get of a home gym set up. Usually people just lift up a dumbbell and put it on their knee but it's not enough resistance. Good job sir!

Thank you and appreciate it!
simplicity is king. thank you. also I like the bike hangers in the background for some of your bars.
People can be so incredibly creative. When I see stuff like this I'm always like, "Why didn't I think of that??" 😂😂

I know I was just trying to figure out how to do these at home because I use way more weight then I can lift up and put on my knees and I never even thought to use a squat rack
Thanks for keeping it simple.
Bro,the only thing I'd add here is that a curl bar like the 1 uve on top there is better, cuz it's easier to find the middle/perfect balance...just sits better on the legs
Great vid Ryan

Thank you sir!
That's so creative!
Much better than stacking weight plates on my legs.

Thank you and sometimes we gotta get resourceful!
Great video! Have you tried it with BFR (blood occlusion) bands? It makes it a lot harder and it's effective with less weight. I was getting up to ~200 lbs, which was difficult to pull onto my knees. With the BFR bands, I can use half that amount and get a lot better pump in my soleus. One warning; you will likely get very sore.
Try ankle weights in seated calf raises right above the knees. Try it. You may not need neither a bar nor a rack but, you may need the other stuff.
Looks like you have some nice aesthetics calf's man 👍

Thank you. Necessity is the birth of invention. 😀
I use the same set up but on a Smith machine

Another good variation if you have access to a Smith machine 👍
Think it’d be beneficial/stable to add bands to end bar and floor pegs?
@RyanIrwinIAC

Possibly, it's not a big distance so would have to have a lot of tension on the band with that small range of motion to make a significant impact, which could make it tough to get into position, but worth trying!
Great video mate! (20kgsea 20x 3x)
It's tough to roll the bar up if you are doing any weight.
Barefoot is the way to go.

I do this with 260kg ( my available max ) but i can go up to 300 or more cos the 260 is quite light . The calf is a very strong muscle.

I tried this the other day before seeing your vid, I didn't like the way I couldn't get the weight to move balanced and see you had some side to side play but going super slow like you helps . If I had a smith machine that would really help

Why wouldn't you do this barefoot?
I’m not gonna trust a guy who has zero calves to teach me how to calf raise 😅
