How to set up a Bredli Carpet Python BioActive enclosure

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hey guys and welcome back to the Bio Dude's channel! Today I am creating a new temporary enclosure for Smithers the Bredli carpet python. He was in a 36x18x18 that was just not suitable for him, so now we are upgrading him to a roughly 60x36x36 KAGES enclosure (check out Zach at reptilekages.com/) until we get his final enclosure where he will maybe have a Mrs. Smithers! I got Smithers at a reptile show a few years ago after having to re-home my original pair when I moved from Pennsylvania to Texas, and he has been a favorite of my team and my family. I hope you enjoy this video, and I look forward to showing you all when he gets his final enclosure. We are running an AC infinity multi fan 120mm USB that controls his temperature, humidity, and timer controls. Thanks for watching!

This is a beautiful enclosure but it doesn’t look much like the dry red deserts these snakes are from. Aesthetics aside, how do you keep the humidity low enough in this enclosure to mimic their natural habitat?

I would love to see an update on this terrarium. I want to give my carpet pythons bioactive enclosures so badly but I'm 80% sure they'll destroy anything I try to plant, no matter how sturdy. Everyone on the internet suggests bioactive with snakes is impossible because they will destroy any plant unless you plant them at least a year prior to adding the snake. I can't afford to buy them all a second PVC cage (I have six carpets) to sit empty for a year with plants, and I refuse to move them to a smaller enclosure while they wait that long. A week or two I could possibly see, but not a year!

Negative. We recommend always using a full CUC - they all work together cohesively and form symbiotic relationships to benefit your soil long term.

I'm having trouble with my elephant feed plants, wondering if you had any ideas why. The first one I got from you back in December and it was in pretty rough shape after shipping, kind of puttered along barely growing for a couple months then started dropping all of it's leaves. Pretty much lost every leaf it had and then I decided to ditch it and get a new one. Chalked it up to being too badly nipped by the cold to pull through. Got a new one that was in fantastic condition. Planted it in the same spot in the rear corner of the enclosure. Seemed good for a couple of weeks, was getting some nice new growth on it and spreading out nicely. But in the last week or two it's started doing the exact same thing the other one did, losing massive amounts of leaves. It had a lot more leaves to start with, it's still has some, but if it keeps dropping it won't for long. It's an arid enclosure with your LED bar + UVB + one of your grow T5's. Everything else in there is doing amazing, growing super well. Got aloes, haworthia, and a spider agave and a cactus that are all growing like mad. It has been very hot lately (no AC in the house and it's been 90's plus most days) so my first thought was maybe it needs more water, but it's already in the cooler corner of the enclosure, the soil isn't bone dry or anything, and I know they're from the hot parts of Africa / Asia so it seems like they should be pretty drought-tolerant. Plus I tried more water when the first one started going that route and it didn't seem to have any effect. Possibly too much water? I have been giving it a bit more water during my weekly watering to compensate for the heat, maybe that's the wrong way to go. Though it hasn't seemed to have had any negative effect on the cacti or succulents.

Hi there! We always recommend sanitizing as just good practice. Prior to filming this video. All plants were washed off thoroughly - Most of them came from my usual growers so I trust those. However, the Hibiscus came from Houston Garden Center so we completely de dirted it and sterilized the crap out of it. Thanks for watching!
