    I have a 20 months old bredl's python, got him when he was 12 months old, and even though he was still a young snake, he's very well behaved. He's a bit shy and may hiss if I mess with him inside the enclosure, and he'll always prefer flight over fight. Once he's out he calms down and just looks around. Also, even though he's an awesome eater, never skips a meal, I can just do anything I want with him without fearing him to have a feeding response. I tried to make it bite on purpose by wiggling my fingers in front of him, and even if I had the scent of rodent on me, he never tried to bite. He smelled my hand for a while before deciding that I wasn't looking like food and losing interest. Pretty smart snakes!

    Thank you for watching! That’s so awesome, congratulations on your future Bredli. I’m sure you’re going to love it. The girl in this video is probably right around that 5.5ft mark. I do have two slightly larger females who are every bit of 6-7 feet as well. But you’re totally right, this one isn’t too too large, and the other two are still both manageable for one person to handle. They aren’t (shouldn’t be) the 8-9 foot giants that some people choose to make their Bredli into. It’s important to recognize the difference between the “maximum size” and a heathy adult size. People can be 400+ pounds, but we know that we obviously shouldn’t be, and when we are we don’t live long and don’t breed well. Same is true of snakes! I don’t want anyone I keep to hit “maximum” size, and I feed appropriately to keep them in a healthy range 😊. Hope that makes sense, let me know if you ever have any questions when you get your new baby!

    My 10 month old female bredli is still nippy. Been working with her allot. But have to keep long sleeves and leather gloves on. It's a labor of love trying to tame her. I'm hoping she will get the message that we can be friends soon. It's been a long 8 months working with her. She is awesome, but disheartening that she is not a calm little girl Edit: would love your comments on your experience with them as young

  • @primolilla

    @primolilla

    I have always welcomed new snakes with an "acclamation" branch. You may want to try it out if you have not done so already. I'd let the animals crawl on a 2-3 foot branch or perch for security but at some point they have to crawl over my hands.He's doing this in the video. This worked best with my coastal and with my SD X Dwarf retic. My boa was ok being held from the start. It's worth a shot. I also would approach my little carpet with a big, closed fist. She never wanted to bite a fist, but would gladly go for a finger. Give it time and you'll make progress.

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the comment, apologies for the delayed response. Sorry to hear that your girl is not cooperating with handling yet, I have one raise up myself at the moment that is the spawn of Satan- it does happen. I would say that 10 months is still definitely on the young side, and a lot of the time you’ll see the animals start to calm down and become more placid after a year or two, maybe even three. It helps when they get some size to them and stop feeling so vulnerable and defensive. I have been pulling my nasty one out gently but swiftly so that she doesn’t have time to stare at my hand and contemplate a bite. I do this after lightly tapping her on the head with a hook. This process, after a longer period of time, will teach her to associate the hook with handling which will save you from food response bites. Overtime your work with the snake will likely pay off, make sure that if you do get tagged you don’t put the snake back for another five minutes or so because you don’t want to teach the snake that biting works. They may not be the smartest animals out there but they can definitely build associations. The tip about using a removable branch is definitely a good one, if the snake is perched on a branch and you can take the branch out and wait for the snake to crawl onto you on its own accord that is very effective. So far all of my nasty ones have grown out of it, some just won’t, but odds are she will, it took my hypo male about a year and a half and I know for a fact it can take longer than that. The key is definitely to try and make handling experience is a neutral or positive experience for the snake so that they never associate handling with something to be afraid of once they’re older. Take her outside to get some sun, let her smell something interesting. Sometimes distractions from you can be helpful. I hope something in here is helpful to you, feel free to comment back with any other questions
