Carpet python enclosure from scratch - DIY
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This is a start to finish timelapse of me building a new enclosure for my jungle carpet python, Neo. The frame is built with 2x4s and a plywood sheet and it's placed on casters for ease of movement.
The substrate is top soil, play sand, orchid bark, cypress mulch and activated carbon. It is seeded with a clean up crew that lived in his previous enclosure. It is lit with two led shop lights, a UVB tube, a halogen bulb and a deep heat projector.

Who needs to go to the Zoo when we could just go to your place as long as we bring a plate of food for this guy
Came across your video and it definitely helped me with the steps for the backdrop. Thank you !
Awesome build for a very lucky snake!

@@lashvivs Ah yeah man, always, also on Reddit. I actually took a lot of inspiration from your videos, you really do cluttering and completely filling the space really well! Its something most don't do right IMO. People think snakes are like us, that they like tidy and open spaces, couldn't be farer from the truth
Awesome video man!

Amazing build! I love that you even made the actual enclosure yourself, as that is what I want to do. Great inspiration, so thank you! How are the plants holding up? I know ball pythons and boas are little steamrollers, and I imagine that carpet pythons are similar, but those are some pretty robust plants.

the plants are doing really well. i used cork tube planters for the smaller ones so he doesn’t steam roll them too badly. he also really utilizes his branches which allow him to move around without climbing on the plants.

@@lashvivs would you say this is cheaper than buying one already made like a pvc or a glass?
@lashvivs
Жыл бұрын
@@glock_9ine956 i’ve done the math, it’s definitely cheaper (especially a custom background instead of a purchased one), but it’s also a lot more labor intensive and time consuming. so just depends on what your situation is. i enjoy the building process more than purchasing one.

Amazing result ! I find the terrarium very pretty ! What is the temperature at the hot spot ?
@lashvivs

thanks! the surface ranges from 88-92. the ambient hot side is around 86. in the winter i’ll drop it a little bit.
Im currently doing a enclosure for my bredli python. Love watching snakes feed. Have a look at my snakes feed if you have a chance
Amazing build my man. Question…do carpets ever burrow? I’m wondering about him possibly uprooting plants.
@lashvivs
Жыл бұрын
thanks! interestingly, i’ve seen him dig some tunnels before, but he doesn’t do it often. i’ve tried to give him enough terrestrial hides so that hopefully he doesn’t feel like he needs to dig his own. but if he chooses to then so be it i’ll adjust haha.
are all the materials used in the video non-toxic/non-harmful to snakes? beautiful work by the way! planning to build a tank to upgrade my carpet python to this summer

@@lashvivs I figured it was pretty big. From what you remember, how much did everything cost? I want to build one eventually.
@lashvivs

@@joshsmith8758 i don’t remember exactly but i think building the enclosure + background + substrate and plants it was around 800usd.

What’s the name of that glass cutting tool

And what’s the name of that wire tool you use to cut the foam
@lashvivs
Жыл бұрын
hey, i used a circular saw to cut the acrylic sheet. it isn’t technically glass, that would require a specialized glass cutter which you can find at your local hardwire store. the wire tool is a wire foam cutter that i purchased from amazon. thanks for watching!
I was wonder what the overall price of this was?

@@lashvivs It's a stunning plant! Last thing, (sorry for all the questions haha), I was wondering what the thing you're using at 7:56 is! I want to make a bioactive substrate for my ball python in his wood enclosure, and having something that holds & separates the substrate from the wood would be helpful!
