No instructions came with my serving tool so this helped confirm what I had figured out for myself. Also made a couple of other things clearer than the written instructions I was going to follow.

Thanks for your great video tutorial. I bought a BCY model 26 serving tool to serve the ends of my Wind-on Fishing Leaders. Now I know how to set it up and use it properly. Thanks.

Same principal for a compound bow?
Can save on serving string wastage if you do not cut it at the end but pull out a bigger loop to turn backwards, with the string still on the tool. Then after pulling tight cut the string and have no waste.

Did my first serving! thanks to you Richard :-) Most pleased and will practice mine again as you get a great finish! I can't begin to think how you'd do it without a serving tool , and the end splice took a couple of tries to get right, over-under etc. but it worked. How did you get to know all this art Richard from being a quantity surveyor? Perhaps another apprentice vid. from you're time till nowadays including, of which I'm sure I've seen, Philip's tutoring?? Many thanks again.

Hello do u have some like foam spacer in that jig between the spool? I have same looking one but with plastic spacers and it feels like its switching the tension every minute
@longbows
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, no, we have the normal plastic spacers, perhaps you need to practice more or maybe the tool hasnt `worn in` yet, it can take quiet a bit of practice to get the hang of it.

Archers ...how did archers and fletchers manage before fletching jigs and bracing gauges ?
@longbows
4 жыл бұрын
OK, this vode is about a serving tool, for making Victorian bows strings, the tool would have been the same, jigs were the same etc.
Why don't you start like all others do? Which is leaving a longer end (about 10") wich you wind over about 10 times, then lift that long end and put it backwards again, start serving again for about 10 windings and then take you loose long end and pull tight, before you go serving the rest? So, you dont have a firm fix at the start sir
