How to: Screen Replacement - Amazon Fire HD 8 (6th Gen)

Ғылым және технология

Don't forget to comment, like and subscribe!
In this video, I demonstrate how to replace an Amazon Fire HD 8 (6th Generation) screen.
Tools used in the video:
Heat Gun - amzn.to/2MvX0ct
Tweezers and Pry Tools - amzn.to/2WfFiOZ
Parts used in the video:
Digitizer - ebay.to/2FOYL3W
Double Sided Tape - amzn.to/2FP3UZO
Amazon Fire HD 8 (Latest Model) - amzn.to/2FYmSxb
Update: The original adhesive could not be reused, so I opted for the double sided tape. If using this double sided tape again, I would double it up. It's very thin and might not adhere in some places.

    The separation of the screen process would be the same, but from what I've seen, the ribbon cable is in a different location (top instead of bottom). I'm not sure if there is anything else that would be different.

    You’re super dad. I’ve bought my kid 3 more of these tablets, but he only wants to use the fire hd 8 from 2018. The screen repair place said to buy him a new one, and that he couldn’t do the replacement. I’m ready to give this a try. I followed the video, bought a screen replacement for my Fire HD 8, and got through the whole process in about 90 minutes. The cheap plastic spudger broke part way through, but I had others. I did manage to tear the orange cover slightly at one corner, but it's in a case -- who cares? I also didn't remove all the adhesive as shown, just the large globs. Had a hair dryer, swept the corners and edges as I went along using the "high" setting. Worked well enough. Pulling off the screen connection to the MB was hard, and the adhesive bonding that to the alum frame was even harder, so I used needle nose pliers and got it off. That part is replaced anyway, so I wasn't worried about damage. The replacement unit had 3M 2 sided tape already in place all the way around; I used a razor blade knife edge to pull up on the paper strips before removing. Tested the unit before putting the orange cover back on, no issues. Did minor cleaning using the seller provided eyeglass style cloth wipe. Wife is very happy with her "new" device (she's the one that dropped the Kindle and cracked the glass). All is well. Thanks for your video!!

    Hey Jackie, the double sided tape helps keep the glass against the housing. If no tape is use, it will more than likely pop out if the tablet is handled roughly. When you see me pulling the white part of the tape off, this is just the backing. The tape itself is still stuck on the housing. Hope this clears things up.

    I used to be a LCD tech. be more careful with the LCD screen, no Windex, no wiping all around, it is a soft plastic with tiny grooves in it. It is EASY TO SCRATCH. to clean, use a new optical wipe (they are usuall only found in large packages and fairly expensive. They are often called "clean room wipes", "unwoven wipes" or "woven wipes". If I had to do it at home I would try a brand new unopened handi wipe), folded into a rectangle about 4inch by 2inch, wet one side of the wipe with isopropyl alcohol (I use a spray bottle). hold it with four fingers on the upper side and thumb underneath. put it on the screen and and move it in x and y directions to see which way you can wipe it the easiest, stick with that direction. put the wipe down at the far edge, pull it towards you rolling up a new surface as you go. Take about one second per inch, too fast may not clean, too slow may leave a wet spot that you will have to reclean. If the wipe wasn't wide enough for the whole screen, espose a different surface of the wipe, wet it and wipe it. Turn the LCD around, fold the wipe to expose another surface, and wipe from the other side. You should be done. Don't ever reuse that wipe for an LCD again, any particles you pick up can scratch the screen.

    Struggling a bit, I hope you might be able to help-- The ribbon connecter at 4:02 is refusing to come out, and I don't want to pull too hard out of fear that I might ruin the ribbon. I will note that the tab doesn't go all the way up-- there's like .05 mm of space between the translucent and opaque parts, and I'm assuming that's some kind of adhesive. Would it be wise to use the spudger to force that part up, or no? I have never been faced with such a ridiculous mechanism in my life.

  • @peteywhit

    @peteywhit

    5 жыл бұрын

    So first thing, make sure you pry the black opaque tab upwards. This is what actually puts tension on the pins in the connector to make a good connection to the ribbon cable. Second, the part where I use the spudger on the tab that is glued to the ribbon cable, I'm not actually prying up. I slide the spudger underneath and then use my finger to put pressure against the spudger to basically squeeze the tab, so that I can pull it. It should stay connected to the ribbon cable. It might help to wrap some tissue or a screen cloth to both arms of a pair of tweezers, then carefully grab this tab and pull straight back. I hope this helps.

  • @peteywhit

    @peteywhit

    5 жыл бұрын

    There are a couple of reasons to remove the existing factory adhesive, but not always required. If there is glass left behind from the broken screen and you can't get it off without removing the adhesive, or if most of the adhesive pulls away with the screen, you might as well pull it all off so you start with a bare level base and the screen will have the same adhesion all the way around when you add new tape. It won't give you high spots due to tape thickness differences. If there is no reason to remove the adhesive, then by all means I would reuse it.

    Why did you put the double sided tape on the digitizer only to remove it?

    The double sided tape has a paper cover on both sides. The tape itself is still behind the digitizer.

    I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one kzread.infoUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

    Hey Aaron, sorry to hear that. Yeah, most of the tools in any of the kits used for separating screens aren’t the best. If it’s a one time thing, or a couple, mine usually hold up. However if it’s something you would plan on doing many times over, then a better quality tool would come in handy. It’s just that for the price, these tools will usually get the job done.
