How to Scoop Draw the Right Way: Sub Second Draws Have Never Been Easier!
Everyone has been asking for it so here it is: this is as detailed as I could be in exactly how I draw from OWB. Hope you all enjoy, and if you have any questions, but sure to hit me up in the comments.

@@christianmillhollon4481 you’re right, I can’t recall ever providing instruction to anyone named jack.
Been working on speed recently and got excited when I finally got down to a consistent 1.6 with occasional gusts of 1.2 with my duty setup ( Safariland Level 3 ). Now I see I still have a ways to go yet. Great lessons here, thanks.
Probably the best draw breakdown Ive ever seen. Thank you
Man, you guys are good! You've given me some new inspiration to improve my draw. I like your approach. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for explaining in detail the mechanics of your draw. I've been an instructor in law enforcement for 18 years and you taught me something. Your shooting style and the cadence of your shots are impressive. Heading to the range to practice this draw. I admit I'm a bouncer, my hand passes my gun then returns on the down stroke to get the pistol. I think it's because we start a lot from a field interview stance. Again thank you.

Phenomenal content!!I If not already done I would love to see a break down on grip! I know it is a bit different for everyone but no body breaks it down!!! they just say vice the grip or crush the grip with your support hand etc. I know the base mechanics have to have a simple step wise easy to understand methodology so I can unlearn bad habits taught to me decades ago in the military and now need to be unlearned. I'm a decent shooter but I know I can be much better!
Well done giving an explanation of Proprioception. We have been discussing, and training on this for Defensive Tactics for years. It is nice to see firearm instructor bringing this understanding to the forefront of their training.

Nicely done. Picked-up a couple of usable tips ... much appreciated.
I train with an ALS and just had to go watch a video of me , to see if im snatching or scooping. I think im doing neither , or a hybrid , , and could be why im slow. Hahaha. I actually always thought i was snatching. But the video just watched showed something else. Also all this .6 draw talk and predictive trigger breaking , and gross sight picture stuff is certainly relative to distance, and threat level , if any , level of accuracy needed etc. Half second draws at 15 yards or farther , is obviously gonna be harder . But im not telling you anything. I shoot a lot , and consider myself semi advanced , but you're well farther along than I. Great video. Thank you.
The cameraman showing up the host? Haha, that was decently funny 😁

I love the scoop draw for competition. But as someone that is working on getting my defensive skills where I want them, I just can't bring myself to practice it yet. I believe the snatch draw to be a method that is more conductive to a start in which you do not know where your hands will be. After my snatch draw is where I want it to be, I would love to add the scoop to my arsenal for competition. I never liked it before this video, due to the safety reasons you mentioned. Slapping the gun up out of the holster always bothered me, but your method makes me much more comfortable with the idea. Good content. I'll be subscribing.

Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing it with us all. I’ve used your system to firm up my draw. Your index finger stuck out in my mind so prominently the first time seeing you draw. I thought about it repeatedly then just started doing it.. It’s almost my index of sorts now during the first initiation of the draw. Getting the elbow down immediately or as literally soon as the muzzle is free of the holster helped too. Your draw stroke is next level - not ordinary or even extraordinary. I’d love to learn more about your grip - what you have learned and now do.

Awesome! Glad it was helpful. Appreciate the kind words. I can certainly do a video on my grip. Lot going on there but should be pretty easy to talk about. In your opinion, what’s the mark of a good grip? Like, how do you tell if a grip is “good” or “bad”? Or better yet, “good” or “better”?

@@brennanbrennecke3323 For me it's partly a feel from tens of thousands of rounds of feedback at 10 yds and my dot really staying tight on target. When I get it right like I did today it's seems so easy and the dot moves very little really. It's not "grip" really but more an all encompassing pressure around the gun with most the emphasis on the support hand. My problems come from RH tension I still fight. But we truly are all different, learn differently and improve differently and at different rates. Regardless of the concept of "equality ", few of us are equal or rather not unique. I'm revisiting your lateral movement video tonight. It's great as well.Very clear and spot on in simplicity.
Wow dude. I loved this video. I have always used the traditional snatch so it’s consistent between different retention levels. However, this little adjustment to the original scoop draw you are using and showing is making me really want to study and try this way on the next few range trips.

You notice that he doesn't have a retention holster he has a fast draw Comp Holster, you also have to consider where your hands are as the need arises to draw the firearm. As a conceal carry person your not always in a position to draw in that fashion. Bottom line is what ever holster and firearm you need to practice your draw whether your hands are positioned when the need to draw in a defensive not competition scenario. I do agree with his lift, rotate and join to extend. I don't subscribe to the Chest grip, or the hand at the chin positions.

Good video amigo. Glad you mentioned negative cant near the end. I believe scoop draw works the best on a negative cant (11 o’clock position) on an open rig or Lvl2/3 system. Neutral or forward cant is not efficient for a scoop draw in my experience. Solid stuff man.

Totally agree. If you want to be as efficient as possible taking the positive cant out of your duty holster is a must, imo.

I'm wondering about the negative can't and placement on hip too, like forward of hip bones or right in line? And does the negative can't help with a regular stab down into the holster draw or just with scoop?
@brennanbrennecke3323
11 ай бұрын
@@TheCalebOsborne so I like it just on or SLIGHTLY forward of the hip bone. I usually align the back edge of my holster with the seam in my pants. And yeah the negative cant helps with all draw techniques.
Good shooting Tex. I scoop from the belly mostly with a Tier 1 I really like. Maybe I’ve been teaching myself wrong because I seem to do better on a quick draw with accuracy when I instinctively flip, point and shoot right out the holster. however I haven’t properly tested myself on paper (though I will now) however it has worked outside that
Fast from lvl 3 retention forces downward pressure.. I have learned that downward pressure helps me establish a better grip.
nice competition rig demo, i use howard darby quick draw methods, every day carry snub nose i show on video my fish hook draw or elevator similar to yours or some call it a snatch draw, i dont push down either as it slows me down, the only thng is your rig and gun set up is fine but only counts if you wear it out in public for defense, unless you have a every day carry set up that you wear off range that set up would count because its always with you for defense when you need it, on range anything goes, but some states you may not be able to wear that rig, minnesota we can wear open or concealed as a choice, you can see my fast draw short cuts for a snub revolver on my main video where i show tips i learned myself and howard darby application to a double action small conceal carry revolver, i do 25 dras before i leave the house with what i am wearng to stay smooth, fast and proficient
