Growing up in a conservative household in the South, I was taught to always "Be a man." I wasn't really "allowed" to be emotional or weak. Music was what taught me that it was okay to have moments of weakness and just be sad.

It’s an outlet. I’m suicidal (don’t worry I’m in therapy and seeking more help) and music is a good way to express myself. I am writing an album about my experience with depression and my childhood and what happened. This song in particular hits me hard. I’ve learned after graduation that this world try’s to keep you down. Whenever you feel ahead in life or you feel in control it beats you down yelling at you to know your place. It hurts but I’m trying to push through it. One day at a time

This song holds a real special place for me, I inherited my singing voice from my grandad, I'm his only grandchild (of 30+) that ended up getting his talent for singing. When he was diagnosed with cancer, I would visit him in the hospice and I sang this for him. I spent a week learning some Sinatra (He was a jazz singer in all the bars of my home town) and the day I went to go visit him and sing "My Way" for him, my mum came through the door and told me he'd passed away. So this really was the first and last song I ever got the chance to sing for him.

I know I'm a year late, but it's worth it for me. I learned about this song when I was nine from scrubs, and it hit me hard, I listened to it constantly. You know those kids that grew up too fast? I was one of them. My older brother (who had recently come out to me) was suicidal, and I found his note, I might be the only reason he's still here today. I don't know what would've happened had I not told our mother about that. My dad wasn't in the picture much, he was home, sure. But he would stay in his room doing god knows what, our relationship was superficial, and it still is. My parents got divorced the summer when I turned 12, it took 18 months for the papers to be signed due to my dad being a narcissistic asshole. The day he left, I had my first panic attack, after my family calmed me down a bit, I listened to some of your covers, they had helped me feel okay in the past, and I thought they'd help me then. Saying they helped me is an understatement, your music helps me keep on going. Recently, I was diagnosed with anxiety although I've been showing signs of having it for years, your songs have always given me comfort and I really hope for you to keep creating. Thank you, Caleb. For getting me through the easiest and hardest times in my life.

Step one, you say we need to talk He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk He smiles politely back at you You stare politely right on through Some sort of window to your right As he goes left, and you stay right Between the lines of fear and blame You begin to wonder why you came Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Let him know that you know best Cause after all, you do know best Try to slip past his defense Without granting innocence Lay down a list of what is wrong The things you've told him all along And pray to God he hears you And I pray to God he hears you Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life As he begins to raise his voice You lower yours and grant him one last choice Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed He will do one of two things He will admit to everything Or he'll say he's just not the same And you'll begin to wonder why you came Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life How to save a life How to save a life Where did I go wrong? 3:16 That last part feels like it’s almost waking up from a bad nightmare. A premonition, a realization. As if you realize a friend of your is on the verge, and it’s only now you realized. You burst out of the door, making your way to his house only find he’s not there. The only place you could think of is the abandoned bridge y’all used to hang out under. On your bike, you pedal as fast as you could, finding him there, on the edge. You call out his name, and tackle him with a hefty bear hug. You tell him he’s going to be okay, that he doesn’t have to feel alone. That he isn’t alone. It’s too much for you to handle, and end up breaking in tears. He looks at you, and the dullness in his eyes turns to watery glimmers, as he spills his sorrows with you.

This used to be my favorite song in my high school years, and I hadn't really listened to it since I graduated. That was 10 years ago this year. This cover just brought back more memories then I could count. Good and bad, but all a whole of who I became. The power of music is phenomenal, and so is this cover. Keep up the great work, Caleb. And congrats on over 1M subs at last!

Re-listening to this while in the middle of one of the worst fights I've had with a friend of 8+ years. There's a lot of personal shit I can't get into but it's one of those ones that's not so simple. I'm sitting here, talking to another friend, with this in the background and I broke into tears. It fit so well, the emotions came through and I just seemed to get it. So thank you Caleb, for this! It gives me a bit of hope, oddly enough.

I’ve watched a lot of your covers recently (because hello you’re amazing) but I think this is my favorite. It sounds just like the original anyway, but I love how simple the video is-just you and the mic-and it’s so raw and emotional that it’s just... wow. It was so so good.I’m so glad I clicked on this.

Holy shit, the original was already tear-jerking and incredible, but your cover puts its own emotional twist on it. You really do put everything into your music, don't you? I got literal chills listening to this. Sadly I can't listen to this song too often, beautifully covered as it is, because it makes me too depressed haha.

Ok so I seriously doubt you’ll see this but I’ve been looking for a cover of this song forever because I’ve been listening to the original too much. I’m super attached to this song because it was me and my dads and my uncles song until they passed away and I absolutely love this cover. Touches my heart, they would’ve loved it too. Much love from Cameryn, Jason, and Brad. ♥️

This song has helped me through some really tough times, and just music in general. So hearing this cover really made my day. I’ve always had trouble fitting in with the rest of society, so I was a loner most of my life. This song is what took my mind of everything, or just music in general. So I music was my escape, so hearing you cover such a song really moved my heart. Thank you for covering it, hearing you sing this made me realize that there’s more to life than I think, so again Thank you!
