I had my first oil change at 600 mi at the dealership since it was part of the complimentary 24-month maintenance program. I purchased my Honda CRV Sport Hybrid FWD in Dec of 2024 and will change my oil every 3000 mi/3months, whichever comes first. I will run Amsoil Hybrid 0W-20 with a Purolator filter and not the OEM filter which is just an entry level Fram cellulose media filter. Filters are cheap and major engine repair is super expensive. Over tight drain plug and filter: I think they tighten themselves through vibration, hot/cold cycles, etc. The other day I was lower bay, the upper bay tech put in the wrong oil. So, he came down to redrain the engine. He put the wrench on the drain plug and was surprised how loose it was! We torque drain plugs; this one was 18 pound-feet. It was a lot tighter than that when it first came in! Thank you for sharing and stay safe.

2022 Accord is not GDI or other direct injection. It is port injection like the older cars, 6700 miles on mine and I love it for now. Thanks for the video, came here via ETCG.

First time I've watched a video this in depth on hybrids. I've never seen one in person except for an older Toyota Highlander I picked up for a car dealer once. I think it was an '06 if I remember right - I had no idea that was even a thought back in '06! The starting battery was TINY. Barely bigger than a full dress motorcycle battery. Engine itself was tiny, too. I don't recall seeing orange wire loom, though - it was probably black from all the years of use, I figure. This thing had a good chunk of miles on it - over 250k. It was a no-crank, but I punted that one - I had no desire to get involved with that since I've never had a service info subscription. I have a hard enough time fixing normal cars, lol! Anyway, I appreciate the heads-up! Propulsion systems may differ, but the rest of any car is still a car! 👍

That's why I laugh when people ask if we work on Euro cars or whatever...cars are cars, sure sometimes the info is harder to get but electricity and the laws of motion don't care where it was made, or in this case, its propulsion system. ~Mike

Great video. I go with 5k intervals. After the first one done at 500 miles. .. one thing I run into often is the side jack points make it difficult to put a jack stand if there is no front or rear center jack point. Wish they continued to provide the center front and rear jack points

Normally I don't fill the filter on Hondas but I have in Some cases I ran into on Hybrids if I don't It will set a "low oil pressure" message or DTC code for low oil pressure and I would have to take the time to clear the code. I now fill the filter and haven't had any issues.

PERFECT STARTING REPLACEMENT OF OIL DRAIN WASHER (CRUSH WASHER), TORQUING OIL DRAIN PLUG AND REPLACING THE FACTORY OIL FILTER HAND TIGHT ; THEN 3/4 TIGHTENING OIL FILTER.

This actually ended up being a much more rational video than I thought just by the title. Must be for all the Midwesterner's still trying to deal with trucks & sports cars being V6's now.

Hey William, some cars require it. Where service info says to do it, i'd try it. For stuff like this, i prefer to drain from the bottom. Plus this gets you under the car for a thorough inspection. Thanks for watching! ~Mike

dear sir i am a big fan of you, i am a technician in gmc and subaru dealership, i have a one car subaru legacy 2013 model year 2.5 ej engine. after the engine overhaul ac working sometimes,i checked all power supply ground, ECM swap,,ac control module and control swich swaped with good car, checked all power and ground and can wire too, checked scan data (engine and ac) compare with other car found ok, when compressor on its work long time sometimes when accelerating compressor off then does not come back on again for long time, ecm don't command high speed fan relay and ac compressor, engine rpm 1300 to 1400 when ac on found. only 2 fault code allways popup b1608 sunload sensor and b1622 mode door actuator, please give some idea what to do. next no blocage in mechanical side compressor good.whe start working good cooling

Hey Mike, Should the key FOB be in a Faraday cage or aluminium foil before you drain the oil? What about 'service mode'? I have shown my students that even aluminium foil wrapped around the FOB will stop transmission to the vehicle. I have heard horror stories of Hybrids self-starting on the hoist with the oil being drained. I personally have had a Toyota Prius self-start while I was nearby with the FOB in my pocket. The Hybrid/EV training I have done have highlighted the importance of isolating the FOB.

@@GoTechTraining Yeah, It scared the hell out of me when it happened. The training I did really highlighted the importance of making sure the FOB was isolated in some form. They gave several examples of where someone had gone to lunch only to come back to a seized engine. I always stress to my apprentices the importance of at least wrapping the FOB in aluminium foil - it works a treat - even with it sitting in your lap when you try to start the vehicle, it won't. I’ve had one start on me before while it was on the lift, I had a spark plug out as I was getting ready to do a leak down test for a suspect head gasket. All I’ve ever had to do was place the key on my toolbox though, never anything special for isolation

i'm thinking it might be good to pull a fuse for the coils or injectors something like that just to be safe 5 k on normal vehicles 3k on short run cars. that 10k was just a way to keep epa off thier backs since epa wants less oil used

Wonder If you would mention, not to leave the key fob inside the car. Ive seen Toyota's start up while the tech was working on it. Just be safe and remove Fobs from all Hybrids.

Hi Mike the gas engine on a hybrid only runs to charge the 200v battery for the electric side of the vehicle doesn't it? , i suppose that is why the oil would be so clean, SO HOW OFTEN DO YOU THINK IT WOULD TURN ON IN 5000 MILES?

Hey Carl, thanks for watching! So on this model the engine is used to charge the battery and propel the vehicle, sometimes at the same time. The engine runs more when it's cold out too. It would be interesting to track engine on mileage vs vehicle mileage...but I haven't seen any menus on the car that offer that data. ~Mike

Hey Max, I guess it depends on your definition of the boonies LOL. But we do live in a very cold climate and are just starting to see a large amount of hybrid vehicles. This technology makes a lot of people nervous to work on. Which is a good thing, even though it is not that much different from a standard car, there is a protentional for danger. But our message was that 90% of the vehicle is unchanged and you can still repair almost everything with out ever touching the high voltage system. Thanks for watching and reaching out! ~Ryan

Put the vehicle in maintenance mode; will force the engine to start. Combination of Double tap gas pedal, transmission selection and depressing the brake pedal. Check your manual.

I look at the bottom of that car in fear. I can't imagine what will happen in around 10 years from now, with them up in the Salt Belt. Those kinds of shields corrode so badly they literally fall off the fasteners. I would imagine the high voltage cable with short, and uh, "It was insured...right?"

Have you seen videos of how much it takes to put out a full electric that's on fire. Those things burn so hot! Training is key for the FD's. Where to cut, where not to, that kinda thing. ~Mike

Do you smog on hybrid

I want to know why manufactures are pressing 5k semi synthetic oil changes and 10k full synthetic. I’m still going by 3k and 6k. All these new vehicles burn oil after the 3k mark is achieved on the oil. I have my suspicions as to why manufactures say you can go so far when really you shouldn’t and it involves the EPA.

@@GoTechTraining I theorize the big manufactures get some sort of carbon credits or break by pretending these cars are less harmful on the environment by going further between oil changes. But the reality is these cars are becoming junk too early and end up in scrap yards mostly rotting away. The customer wants more power and the government wants less environmental waste but the overall result is an over tuned delicate engine that has a major catastrophe that causes most to just junk the car or trade up.

Has anyone sent oil samples to Blackstone? A friend did with his K20 EP, 10k OCI with Penn Syn and blackstone said he'd could go another 5-6k miles, also his K didn't use/burn oil that is common on them.

What if they changed my oil and told me that they forgot to turn off the car . So basically Engine was on.

I put a video up the sounds as it first started till now and everyone tells me many different things, love cars but when you haven't got a clue to whats actually wrong in a taredown you certainly feel challenged.

oil change spring,oil & filter change fall. winters in NY can be hard on a engine..just my opion. and i'm a fill the filter type .filler up, if it go on sideways your good. if it goes on up top it off,that fabrick does soak up a lot of oil.don,t baleave me try it sometime...just sayin..
