How To Rinse Your Nose Properly - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Allen - Sinus Specialist

Everything you need to know about nasal and sinus rinses! As a Fellowship-trained Sinus Surgeon, I'm constantly talking to my patients about the many benefits and various techniques for nasal saline irrigations. In this video, I'll be covering the benefits of nasal rinses, reasons why one delivery method might be better than others depending upon your circumstances, safe rinsing practices including the head positions that reach the various sinuses following surgery, and limitations of sinus rinses in those who haven't already required sinus surgery for relief. I'll cover some of the commonly prescribed topical medications that can be added to rinses, which make an excellent delivery system (much better than nasal sprays).
Please ask any unanswered questions in the comments section, and I'll try to answer them and clear up anything not covered in the video.
All supplies mentioned in the video, including NeilMed Sinus Rinse Kits and distilled water, are available in most pharmacies and grocery stores. Sinus rinse kits and rinse packets can also be purchased on Amazon.com, often at a discount.
Medications mentioned in the video must be prescribed by a physician based upon your specific condition, and are generally obtained from compounding pharmacies.
While in the past baby shampoo was used in nasal rinsing (as a surfactant to help clear stubborn mucous), this is now rarely recommended based upon evidence of smell loss in those using it regularly.
Thanks for watching, and if you're in need of care for any sinus or nasal problem, my practice is located in Houston and The Woodlands, Texas, USA.
