This guy is very good. All the little details given like in his other videos 'always keep the bike moving' makes all sense once you start riding from being a learner. I recommend you watch and don't assume you know everything and as with motorbikes once you get experience, don't be arrogant but to respect the throttle and value your life and the life of others.

Thanks for this series of videos. I learnt more through you than I did when I did my CBT on a geared 125 last year, my instructor wasn’t very good at all. The experience wasn’t great and It put me off getting a bike to be honest. However with a year left on my CBT I am picking up a 125 tomorow at the age of 31. Thanks again for your videos, and if you aren’t an instructor already, then you should be!

Like your comment regarding learning to ride a bike. And I agree with you, I also learnt through out this video tutorial. I’ve only ever had a provisional car license. But now I’m keen to get on the road. And I’m not bothered either way. Bike or car, Do you have any tips. That you can pass on. You seem to have a bit more experience than me. Like you have said. You done your CBT on a geared 125 last year, although your instructor wasn’t very good at all. “ sorry to hear that “ And the experience wasn’t great and It put you off getting a bike. But as you say with a year left on your CBT your picking up a 125 tomorrow at the age of 31. Don’t worry about that. 31 is still quite young to learn. I’m not sure when you left this message. But I’m 52 and looking for any tips. From anyone that wants to give them. Bearing in mind I’ve always been told that bikes are not safe. And I’d be better sticking with 4 wheels rather than 2 wheels. Im now looking to buy a bike anyway. As I’ve found by listening into various conversations insurance for a bike. Is cheaper than a car. Along with road tax. And once you pass the CBT your able to go out unsupervised. As opposed to a car. You have to have someone sat beside you. But a motorbike you don’t. But you do have to pass a c.b.t. Before you go out on your own.

I learned on a Suzuki TU250 and a Kawasaki KLX 250 dual sport on my MSF. Shifting gears, especially downshifting, was always difficult for me, given the bulky hiking boots I was wearing. Included that the Suzuki had some teething trouble with either the shifter or a sticky clutch, as I found that I really had to heave on the shifter (clutch pulled in) to shift through the gears. However, the Kawasaki shifted through all its gears like butter, and the clutch was smooth and featherlight. Great video!

Even motorcycle tutorial websites neglected to provide any information. Now, thanks to this very informative video, I know I can navigate roundabouts in 3rd gear. I'm used to driving a car where 6th to 1st in quick succession wouldn't be possible without ruining or locking the gearbox, so I am more used to dropping down the gearbox more methodically as the speed reduces.

@@sunnyjim98 that's awesome man! I'm really considering but my girlfriend and family are just like "don't do it, you will die". I get their point, it's arguably more dangerous than driving a car but there's something about it! I want to give it a try! Been driving for 11 years now and I was always dreaming of motorbikes as a kid. Anyway! I hope it all goes well for you so you can get that new bike!

Hello, great video mate! But i still have a question that i can't seem to find anywhere, so my question is how do you know when you are suppose to shift gears & know what gear you're suppose to be in? Like for example is 1st gear from 0-10mph, 2nd gear from 10-20mph, etc. Etc.? Not exactly like that, but i hope you know what i mean, Thats the only thing im confused on. Like can i stay on 2nd gear while im going 40-50? Or is everything suppose to match? Tha k you in advance!

Thanks for the video, its good to see. Couple of things I could do with advice on. First I have trouble changing up, Ive worn my boots in but theyre still really stiff for getting under the lever to change up with just an ancle movement, I kinda end up moving my whole leg a bit, is that right? I believe its possible to adjust the level a bit but it doesnt look very low. Second is I am mostly worried about being an idiot new rider and not knowing how to do simple things like fill up at a petrol station. Ive been driving a car for years but new to riding, would love to see a video on the common things to know.

Hi James, yes you can adjust the lever which can help. In regards the petrol station... I go for pump on either side, doesn't really matter for the bike. If the pump is on your left make sure to allow enough room to get off the bike when it leans onto the stand... Get off the bike before filling up. Some petrol stations won't allow the petrol until you remove your helmet. And be careful as petrol stations are slippery places due to spilt diesel!

Thanks. Very useful video. Clear and instructive. I have a question: when you are coming back down through the gears with the clutch lever pulled in, do you have to let the clutch lever out each time you change down a gear or can you keep the clutch lever pulled in and go 4,3,2 and then let the lever out once you get to 2 to pull away again?

Good question! You can do either. Some bikes don't like multiple gear changes and prefer (like mine) the clutch to come out between each gear change. With my bike if I keep the clutch in and work down multiple gears they'll get stuck.

Great video, better than many quick fire CBT courses no doubt. But i'm surprised more people don't just do the DAS on say a powerful Auto Honda. So much to think about as a beginner to biking, gearing down for every junction. Arguably much safer with just twist 'n' go, not having to worry about stalling or skidding at roundabouts. As you say, many of the 125 manuals don't even have rev counters or even show you what gear you're in. It feels sketchy!
