Gotta agree, you have an easy style when explaining things which is very helpful, combined with demo's and physics, which was never easy for me but you make it understandable. I'm 51 and started skating Dec 2019 and I only get to skate 1 week in 3 so it is really slow going but I'm happy(ish) with my progress so far. I look forward to watching more of your videos 🤙🇦🇺

That’s awesome! Of course I’m stoked that you’re enjoying the tutorials and find them easy to understand, but it’s awesome that you’re putting in the effort to skate whenever you can even if it’s one in every three weeks! It takes a lot of patience and determination to progress like that. Always huge yays for skating and progression no matter what the pace 💪💪😃

Nose Pivots were my 1st trick! Back then i rly focused on lifting my back wheels up, swinging them around, and keeping balance for a split second. I think i was over complicating it, but i didn't have longevity of actually riding my board. Now (having 22.5 years of riding my board on multiple surfaces), i usually will go for a revert if i have the speed, and a nose pivot is if i wna give like 10% more effort lol. I think directional moves like this are the foundation of sk8n, and i recommend everyone learn them in all directions at different speeds. It makes your tricks easier to ride out of, cuz u'll have more familiarity of weight distribution across your board. I've always been a big & tall guy, and having size 15s on eearly 2000s popsicles meant ALL my footspace mattered, and learning to lean, pivot, & slide have been fundamental. Nothing feels better than sliding.

The physics explanation was very helpful, I was able to do a revert in 15 minutes, thanks! Of course, mastering it and getting the muscle memory for it will take way longer but it's really fun. :D I wasn't sure I could do it because I'm riding pretty soft wheels at the moment but it worked (I'm guessing it's easier with harder wheels). One thing that helped me do them more consistently was bending my knees a bit.

Hey, that's awesome! 💪 Yes..that pressure point is really where it's at..I do a lot of footwork from freestyle skating, and it was just something I started to notice. My go to warm up, monsterwalks, are like two consecutive reverts. So, I just started to realize over time and while analyzing my videos that it was much easier to do with my toes in that pressure point. And then when I really sat down to figure it out, it made a lot of sense friction-wise. 😃

@@SarahParkMatott I had been trying reverts for around 5 sessions and couldn't get them consistently and kept doing half rotations, and I realized I was trying to pivot around the heelside wheel instead of the toeside wheel. When I tried your method I got them almost instantly! I also tried backside reverts and almost have them now thanks to this (but in that case the pivot point is the heelside wheel)

Thanks for the great tutorials Sarah. Quick question, do you think there's danger of the wheels siezing up if I try a revert in a tiled sidewalk? The "cracks" between each tile aren't that big but maybe the wheels could get caught during the sliding motion. Anyhow, I think I'll just have to try it out, I'll be wearing protection just in case 😂

  • @SarahParkMatott

    @SarahParkMatott

    10 ай бұрын

Yes, I would put some pads and a helmet on while trying it out. They could certainly get caught, but it will depend on the wheels and technique. Probably the lighter you slide the wheels and the faster you do it, the less likely they'll get caught. But a slow and hard push down with the front foot might get them to stick more

  • @SarahParkMatott

ah, if I wanted to learn how to revert off of a curb, I would probably work on reverting into a small manual--so a little more like a pivot to baby manual. And then, you could also try going slow and landing them to nose stall on the curb. So, roll to the curb slowly, pivot and drop into a nose stall...that's probably how I would start!

@@idothings6923 ohh well, if you’re getting stuck in a powerslide kind of position, there might be too much friction. Letting up some pressure on the back foot (non pivot plant foot) might help. Sadly, a lot can go wrong with any trick 😂 it’s always the subtle stuff. But, it always comes eventually with practice and exploring different movements and techniques. So, I have no doubt that you’ll get it💪

what kind of wheels and board do you have? You can revert anything (popsicle, longboard, surfskate, cruiser). However, having large soft wheels on concrete will definitely make this harder when you're starting out due to the extra friction and drag. And if you're skating something like a shaped cruiser, it can be hard to revert of the nose early on. It might be easier off the tail.

@@theklown8820 In that case, I wouldn't worry too much! It can take quite a long time to get the hang of the mechanics. I know it looks "easy," but any skill can take some extra time as we learn to understand and execute it! I'd hang in there and keep practicing 💪

Indeed! That’s exactly what I was talking about as far as “holding the trucks down” lightly as they slide against the ground but not hard enough to stop them. Keeping the heel up helps not to pin them 💪

I push regular (I can be with my back foot, the right one, on the air forever.. standing with only me front left foot) But I damn cannot push with my left foot... Cant be on my skate with only my right foot... And now about ticktocs or reverts... I can only do them goofy Y_Y .. what the hell, I'm so lost... I've been searching for this particularity everywhere "Push regular, trick only goofy" feels terrible Any comments, someone?

I think I've heard of this in other sports. Like people who throw right handed and bat left handed in baseball/softball. I haven't seen it in skating myself. But, everyone is a little different.

@@SarahParkMatott Hi Sarah, Do you have any idea or advice about that? Or do you know who should I ask? :P I don't know if I'm just like that and kinda doomed (Will need to always push, then revert... and then practice a trick) Or.. Should I force to learn to push Goofy... or should I force to learn to trick with my right foot in the back?

@@FedeArgentina If it was me, I would probably start training both--pushing with the other leg and experimenting with tricks with the opposite leg. In the beginning everything is really tough. But one might start to feel a little more intuitive over the next few months. I would imagine changing your riding stance to be easier though if you wanted to just choose and stick with it. I know after months of pushing switch (non-dominant foot) it got pretty comfortable for me. It did take some strengthening up of my balance foot though. I've also heard of some skaters who got injured early on and learned all their tricks switch (non dominant again) and decided to stick with it. Pretty much changed their base trick stance out of necessity. Both are possible! I wish I had some better direction to point you in though. Personally, I'd change my pushing foot and put in a little extra work there.

@@SarahParkMatottThank you for your very detailed response! You made me think that maybe it's a little early to worry about this problem... I bought my skate 3/4 months ago and I can only train +/- 2 days a week, sometimes 5, or sometimes just a few minutes in the backyard So I'm at this newbie point: - I am 99% comfortable pushing with my strong R - Tick-tock (right front foot) - Revert, clockwise and counterclockwise (right front foot) - Recently I managed for the first time to jog a few steps, throw the board and jump on it (I don't remember the name) - Playing with 'reverse 360'? If that has a name... (ofc right front foot) - I loved your video about "monster walk", I'm going to focus on that these weeks, I think it can help connect some brain-leg neurons (The muscles on the right imitating my skilled leg xD) And that's it... Ha! Look... I found this video from March, my girlfriend was filming me in my first week with my new toy facebook.com/100009371119237/videos/528271725532890 Only her laugh made the video worth the upload 😅 I looked closely, and of course I started from day 1 pushing regular. Could I send you videos like that in the future to show you my doubts more easily? Sorry for the block of text, will leave it there, I know that producing videos and addressing many other comments consumes a lot of time.
