I accidentally clicked "open with" when I was messing with the windows cursors, I'm panicked as soon as the icons changed. I decided to search "file icons changed after clicking open with" and then ended up in this video. Wow. Such a helpful video 👍

I opened a .json file in notepad while expermineting. Now even after following this procedure and deleteing the USERCHOICE and other format in the default folder also it doesnt seem to work. The icon of .json files still reflects as notepad. I'm helpless. Pls guide!

In my case Inside UserChoice, I found: (Default), Hash, Progld. I too couldn't delete any one of them. So I recommend you to take a look inside your UserChoice and find out if there are any files that can be deleted from the UserChoice and then complete the process. Let me know your story. @Sir Chogyal : I'm scared Mr. Sir Chogyal i too accidently changed a .CAP files to open with Notepad and i can find the Defaulted program to open as a .CAP file guess i am scared to Delete things ? the cap file came in a zip file i downloaded inside is the Bios cap file to update Bios to Latest version i just wanted to be in its default form, i will do ur method, but when i looked up .cap only shows the 2 folders the : OpenWithList and OpenWithProgids does not have the UsersChoice folder would it matter?

Yes. If you are selecting the right app, it is okay it go with that app icon. However, if you are choosing another app just to open the file temporarily, do not check/tick the "Always use this app to open...." so that your file icon won't change.

You may use WinZip to open your jar file. You can also use WinRAR or 7-Zip.

Right-click on the 7z file. Select "Open With" and then "Choose another app" Select "7-Zip" (or another program that can open 7z files) from the list of options. Check the box that says "Always use this app to open .7z files" Click "OK" You can also try to change the default program for .7z files by going to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations and look for .7z files and change it to 7-zip or the program you want to open it with.

Does it work on Windows 10? I need to restore. Package files but it did not work for me, please help 🥺

You can download any application. For example, I use Everything from voidtools which is ready to use after download. Right-click on your .cs file and go to Properties. Make Everything the default OpenWith application by browsing from your PC. Move the application, Everything to a different location or delete the application, Everything. Now go to Task Manager. Right-click on Windows Explorer and click on restart.
