    thisisacrummyname All I would say is it’s always good to clean off any rust that you see first with a wire brush. Then clean the weights off with isopropyl alcohol. After that when you paint them, don’t have the spray can get any closer than 12” or any farther then 18” while painting. Lastly let them dry for more than “20 minutes” in between coats, & a full 48 hours before you use them. You want the paint to cure properly. Anyway I liked the video 👍

    One more thing. How about shaking the can more in between sprays? I think it looks pretty good.

    Hi, I just wana know....would I really need to put clear coat at the end (or after the 2nd/3rd coats of paint) or would I need to put clear anti corrosion spray? I heard is optional on each/both ideas. Reason why I'm asking is I already sprayed two coats of Primer then 2 coats of Dulux Enamel Paint over it. I was told Enamel has rust protection.

    Although I’m no plate restoration expert, I don’t think the way you’re doing will be an issue. Our plates couldn’t have looked worse before we did ours, so I’ll take the improvement even if it’s not permanent.

  • @StevieRichardsFitness

    @StevieRichardsFitness

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great question. I really don’t have an answer except, I think, bumper plates are dipped and not sprayed. I could be wrong though. Since bumpers are essentially rubber, maybe find a paint that works on that.

    So I did this aswell. I lightly scuffed them with sandpaper the 2 coat painted them. Couple hours of dry time in-between coats. Then I did 2 coats of clear coat. Same dry time between coats. Then let them sit for 24 hours before use.

    I'm getting some new cast iron plates and I'm planning on coloring them the Olympic standard way. Would you recommend spray painting new plates? I'm thinking the layers of paint might also prevent the metal itself from rusting.

  • @StevieRichardsFitness

    That’s always an option if you want different colors rather than aging extra. Picking the right spray paint to prevent rust would be important as well.
