Starting the Citristrip Gel removal. So far very easy to work with. Superior plates, made in USA deep dish. 2.5-35 lb. The finish on the face of the plates are overall much better condition and I plan to leave. The rear and sides the paint was failing most likely from less than ideal storage. Plan on doing the OA bath, 3-1 oil. Potentially some paint for the letters. The style of the plates are very similar to Ivanko plates.

Great! I had a lot of trouble getting the paint off of some Superiors a while back. I’m glad to hear it’s going better for you!
Can’t wait for part 2!

Thanks! Everything is finished. Editing now. I'm hoping to publish next week.
Just used the spray on 4 pairs of York RH painted matte black. Melted away with almost no effort. Thanks for the tip!

Anytime!
You can use aircraft paint remover too. Stuff is brutal. Sold at popular auto parts stores in the paint section. You can wrap the item you are stripping in a plastic bag, keeps the vapors in and makes the stripper work better. Wire wheel definitely removes metal, something you don’t want especially with a weight. To get a nice black metal color, I like soaking in vinegar, removes rust and seals the metal, Looks good too with matte clear coat afterwards 👍

I've heard about using the aircraft paint remover, but never tried yet. Sounds brutal! Haha

I'm flattered. Thank you. 💪
Is there a good way to clean up all the gunk on the plates afterwards? Just baking soda and a rag?

If in the garage, I fill a tub with water and rinse the gunk off. If outside, I spray with a hose or even better, a power washer.

Would be a whole lot cooler if you had kept them orange 😉 Thanks for the shoutout
What happened to the orange 🍊?

I stripped them to bare iron. In Part 2, I clear coat them. I've really taken a liking to clear coating.
if a plate is quite rusty, should I remove rust with something else before applying citristrip ?

No, CitriStrip will take off the rust and paint. It’ll take it down to bare iron.
How do I remove paint from a pair of Blue Joe Weider bumper plates that some idiot painted over them with black paint. I don't want to hurt the blue original color underneath . Anyone????

That's a tough one. If you mean full rubber bumpers, I've never tried paint removal from rubber. If you mean vintage bumpers that have metal disc with a rubber ring around it, I'd use the Citristrip gel on the metal to give paint. Maybe test the gel on a small part of the rubber and see if it adversely affects it or not.
Where in God's name can I guy that strongman flag?
