Awesome. I was able to put a 4TB SSD disk (WD Red SA500) to replace the existing 4TB HDD in My Passport Wireless Pro, and everything works great! After the upgrade, it is reported as a "My Passport Wireless SSD", but this is normal I guess. Thank you for the detailed instructions, it was very helpful.

Hello, perfect video to change from HDD to SSD. It works perfect…but not all SSD will work. Samsung SSD gives problems. You can also find some negative experiences in the internet. In my case SanDisk Ultra 3d SSD, 500 GB and 1TB (89€) works perfect. Thank you again!

I'm trying to use a WD blue disk but when I press the key for 5 seconds and release it instead of make the installation all lights blink four times and make a pause, again, four times, pause, and so on... do you have any idea what might be wrong? Sadly I can't get it to work with any hard drive or SD card. Stuck in recovery mode and nothing else.

Hi. I tried your steps using many difference WD drives from HDD to SSD but non of them recognized by the box. All led flashed instead of only drive led flashing for writing the new firmware. It only work with the original drive. Do you think there's a lock somewhere so my box only work with the original one came with it?

hi, do I have to change my hdd even it is just working fine? I experienced the same problem (all leds blinking fast repeatedly) and mpwp doesnt broadcast. I got the issue when I failed updating mpwp's firmware.

Be careful my passport starts to blink all lights and it lost all data (all corrupted).

I tried your restore however after 5 sec, I leave and it start flashing led again. I set up hdd with GPT and set volume to exfat. and I tried 2 different WD drive. those worked just fine with pc. when you restore yours after leave your button after 5 sec hold, all your led flashing? or flash wifi and disk only?

@@Gadgetoman it's weird. I reformatted NTFS type. and it works just fine. I set GPT and put full capacity on one volume. I put WD 4TB SSD Blue. and when it came back, I did "system and disk reset" to load 4TB.

oh.. after everything back to normal, I reformat disk as exFAT. and it just works fine. for speed wide, it's 5 times faster than HDD. tested over usb 3.0. and transfer sd or usb host are not much change cause of SD card speed limit and USB host as usb 2.0. I used Sony 4k support SD card(256G). I copy from sd to SSD. it took 20 min for 220G(5G/file and small images) For my cost, $30 for used WD wireless pro and $400 for 4TB wd ssd. I set up 2 r-pi4 for rendering img seq. I use color-grading render for 4k mov.

Seagate is incompatible disk. Only WD Blue will work.

Обновление. Какие-то системные файлы теперь видны на новом накопителе, но не вижу wi-fi, который он должен раздавать для первичного подключения

The password doesn't work for me - it doesn't seem to be 8 last serial number digits ...., how can I find this ??

I've changed to a SSD but it won't boot off the SD card to flash the WD Passport. Any ideas?

same issue sadly. Really sucks, drive works and starts up fine via usb but cannot get the sd card flash to work at all.

Hopeless product. I bought two of these and both suffer from a defect harddrive (click sound) and all lamps blinking just after a few days. These drives should be recalled to WD.

These things are garbage. Hard drive died so put in another wd blue HD. Tried to flash it like you did...didn't work. No wifi access, nothing shows up. Lol. Does the hard drive need to be formatted like that? Looks like you did 1 partition with fat32, and left the other half, unformatted. Is that correct? I'm thinking maybe it could be a bad firmware flash and bricked it. Idk what to do.
