Well made How To......This Siamp diaphragm is an example of PPD; Piss Poor Design. They're all made out of low-case rubber, which atrophies-.... period...that's why their cheap. Diaphragms abound on aircraft...which necessarily use a tougher, more reliable material....so....why not this diaphragm, which is in millions of homes? DIY homeowners can change it; but many are not DIY, having to call in a plumber to do this work. Any views?

Top man, thanks for the explanation. I have a working toilet again. It was slowly filling so I swapped the rubber grommet then it was over filling so using your video I also adjusted the grey thing at the tOP and rotated it anticlockwise 3 or 4 times which adjust the level of water and stopped the water. LEGEND!☺️👍🏽

I have this type of cistern (B&Q Rejuvenate), have gone through this inlet float valve situation recently, but now the toilet flush has broken and when I press it down from the top, it doesn't actually flush. I have worked out that I can lift the accompanying plastic bit next to it, with the metal hook, and it will then still flush, but I have a horrible feeling it's all about to die a death. Can you assist, please? Also, is there a name for the brand of this cistern's internals, in case I need a replacement?

@@shaktastik Thankyou, you're a star. I've just watched yours, and also taken a brief video of my own attempting to flush, and I'll compare the two, since on first look, I'm not sure if something's broken off (can't see anything in the cistern) or if it's unclipped, as I've seen someone else describe as an issue. I'll probably be tomorrow when I look at it properly, as it'll be brighter then and I'll be more awake :)

@@peileed I did, there's a small white arm on the part that you unscrew to get to the old diaphragm (it's the arm that connects to the float). After you replace the diaphragm, before you screw the part back into position, unclip the small white arm (you can clip it back into position later). Push the part with the new diaphragm into position - make sure it's really pushed in there to form a good seal (the small white arm was stopping me doing this, by removing it, I had better access to tightening the nut). Finally, after you've tightened the nut, clip the white arm back into position. Hope that helps 🙂

It is easy to think that you have to align the 'groove' with the part on the valve that sticks out. If you do so, it won't stop the water flow. I put mine at 90 degrees and it worked fine after scratching my head for ages!

@@bsw78 Yeah I guess so. Tbh, a few days after I THOUGHT I'd got it working, the thing failed again, so had no alternative but to call a plumber and get the whole float assembly replaced., The guy said these float assemblies are really badly designed - he replaces loads of them because repairing them is so hit-and-miss

  • @stephenhookings1985

I swear some pervert pre-rips the diaphragm so they last about 3 years :-) we have 3 of these ... Just ordered another set because the cycle starts again. Sometimes the middle part goes. There is a twist and replace mechanism - great idea but often the nut underneath gets lose then you seep water out of the close coupling. Ours are on mains pressure so our fill time is much shorter than yours - or you don't have much pressure. Anyhow great job.
