How to replace timing belt/water pump for a Honda Acty (E07A Engine)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Disclaimer: I am not a professional mechanic. I made this video only because nothing else like it exists on the E07A engine or Honda Actys in general.
Make sure to use a jack stand! I didn't say that till halfway through the video. But it's always important whenever you are working under a car.
Also, for refilling the coolant, make sure you fill it up, then crack open one of the bolts on the radiator lines to bleed air from the system. The easiest one to access is at 10 oclock when you are looking down at the engine. Crack that open and let it run for a bit so all the air will come out. Keep filling it until it runs at normal temps.

    Great video! I was able to complete the job after watching your video. I would like to add that there are two covers for the timing belt on my HA3, a small rounded one that goes in from the top and a larger one that goes in from the bottom. The top one goes in first. Its rounded edge goes into a lip by pushing towards 10 o'clock. It also has a rubber gasket that clips to the edge that goes into the lip. You have to put the gasket on the edge before inserting into lip. The motor mount bolt at 10 o'clock can't be removed/inserted without being in the motor mount, so this is the last bolt to be removed and the first to be installed for the mount. Keep your jack under the engine because you will be raising and lowering the engine numerous times to access the bolts. I had to buy a straight handle 12 mm ratchet wrench to remove the alternator bolt from the top. Then an offset 14 mm wrench to remove the last bolt from the mount from the bottom. It is so tight in there that it is hard to get leverage. So I wrapped a ratchet strap around the alternator pulley and a hook to the other end of the wrench and pulled it loose.

    Great video brother!!! The tensioner pulley makes it easy to take the belt off with just putting the correct socket on the bolt and applying pressure. It loosens the belt and same way going back on.

    Little hack I learnt way back for changing timing belts : Paint marker (2 colors preferably). Make marks on belt and crank/cam pulleys. Remove old belt and copy marks from old belt to new. Install new belt lining up pulley marks with marks on new belt. Done !

    If you want to just check the status of your belts , I believe you can pop the round cap off above the dipstick and underneath are your belts. I just saw a picture in my Japanese manual.

    So, since this is the kind of kei car I plan on getting (a mid-90s Honda Acty Street), where do you get the parts from? I'm pretty sure if I went to my local parts store they would look at me like I'm crazy and not be helpful.

    I followed your instructions from this video on how to replace the timing belt and set the timing But for some reason I cannot get the engine to start it will turn over but will not start every place the distributor The wires and the plugs still no fire My understanding if the timing is off it should still start though not run well would you agree? Do you have any other advice as to what to look for ?

    If the timing is off it won't start. Maybe if it was one tooth off it will run poorly. I'd get it taken apart and check it all. You can have it run with the timing cover off and just put the engine mount and valve cover on. That makes it easier to diagnose and try to run it instead of undoing and redoing all the timing covers.

    Trying to tackle and ran into a snag with the top engine mount bolt. Even when I drop the engine as low as it will go there is still not enough clearance to reach the bolt to remove it. Is there a trick to this?

  • @callahanphotographer

    @callahanphotographer

    Pittsburgh Good Deeds It’s really tight and at a awkward angle where the wrench hits the side of the bed opening. From underneath it’s even harder to access because the mount is recessed. I could prob get it started eventually from the top with an offset wrench but as it comes out I feel like it would hit the side of the frame making it impossible to get the bolt out.

    @@callahanphotographer it's hard to know what to do without seeing it. You are positive the engine is down as far as it can go? My bet would be there's something else you can do to be able to lower it and get to the bolt.

    @Tyler Littleton what model Acty do you have? I figured out mine is slightly different. I have a 95 Acty Street, Automatic with AC. With my model, that fan thing is a much heavier/sturdier piece. It's more of a harmonic balancer. And the crank bolt is holding it on. So I had to remove the crank bolt first. To do this I needed to use a pulley holder and breaker bar. Or you can use an impact gun If yours is Automatic with AC, check if you have that crank bolt on there holding the harmonic balancer
