How to Replace the Zipper on Jeans - Secrets from a profesional tailor
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you how to replace the zipper on jeans. This customer had a small defect in the teeth of his zipper, while it is tempting to replace the slider, sometimes, the risk just isn't worth it due to the fact that there isn't a massive difference in the pricing and that the results wouldn't last very long. So I hope you found my process useful. If you did, please don't forget to give this video a like, comment, share, and subscribe! Your support means the world to me.

You make it seem so easy!!! Thank you! I've been putting off changing the zipper in my daughter's nearly-new jeans. Now I feel confident to give it a go!
Nicely done. Love your recommendation about mixing different color threads to match the existing thread.

Hi from Vancouver Island! Yes, I am up for the challenge. Just removed the zip. Easy. Now I need to buy the zip and report back. I will take it slow. Cheers from Kindle

It is probably my least favourite job 😅😅 I hope to help anyone!
I use a lint roller to grab those threads after seam ripping- just roll along both sides of the fabric. it does an awesome FAST job, lol- only leaves a couple of the more stubborn threads. Mind the fabric so you don’t accidentally ruin the seam allowance or fray your project.

Thank you so much. I had a pair of jeans that I loved and the zipper broke in them. They've been sitting on my bedroom floor for months. Today, I finally worked up the courage to try it. I watched your video and felt confident enough to do it. I followed your technique and it turned out beautifully.

Great job there! I wish I'd have watched it the whole way through because at the end you say about not sewing over the zipper. I had the correct length of zipper, but put it on the top first and ended up having to go over the zipper. But, it was my first time and I'm ecstatic that I replace a jeans zipper! Thank you so very much! I think it's more difficult to remove the old one than it is installing the new one. You're the best!

OMG - that's insanely beautiful. What a great job! Patience of a saint. That is a lot of steps. Plus, of course since you are a professional tailor, you are using a very strong industrial machine. I would love to have one. But I'll have to make it work with my home sewing machine. I don't think I could thread two threads through my needle though. I might give it a try just to see what happens. What a great idea.

Nope, I’m just going to buy a new pair of Levi’s In New York City, the repair will cost more money than new pair of Levi’s on sale!
This is a much better way of doing it, thanks so much for sharing! Yes I currently do it the other way - I leaned it that way and never questioned it, but it always irks me that you can’t sew the ‘J’ in one go without sewing in part of the under flap with it, so you get a little curved line of sewing on the inside (which wasn’t there in the original jeans). It seems so obvious now I’ve seen you do it - I’m totally converted, thank you!!

Thanks! You just described why I prefer the other way. Sewing the "J" is easier. Cheers 😊

Aida, love this tutorial. I just got a juki DL 8100. I have a question so I thread one spool on each side of the thread stand and pull them together after or do they need to be together from the very top like in your maternity tutorial? I hope you can understand my question. 😆
@DowntownTailoring
Жыл бұрын
Hi Norma! I understand. When I have two spools 🧵 I place them separated. I only do it as the maternity video if the second thread is in a bobbin. Very often the thread on a bobbin get entangled with the holder as the bobbin is so low and small. Cheers 🥰

Hi thank you so much for this video! I made a pair of jeans and my zipper pull came out 😢 so now I feel better about replacing it. This might be obvious to more experienced sewers but I see that you didn’t put a zipper stop 🤯 left the teeth super close to the seam and then enclosed them in the waistband, does this prevent the pull from coming out ???? Thanks a bunch. Great video!

Since the waist band stitch was picked open and you sewed new thrread there, how do you prevent the rest of the original waste band thread that was left from unraveling the rest of the way? are you knotting it off? Does my question make sense?
@DowntownTailoring
10 ай бұрын
Your question makes perfect sense. If the seam is a regular plain seam, I don't need to do anything. When I sew the waistband back, I'll make sure to overlap the stitches for about 1" to secure the old one. When it's a chain stitch, I pull out the loop so it won't keep going. Anyway, I still overlap the new stitch. I hope this helps 💐
THAT’s exactly how I do it!🎃
