This video shows the easiest way for this job by taking the air intake off. However, this video skips two hardest parts of this job. First, there is a 5th bolt in the middle holding the air intake and can’t really see or touch with your finger. Second, the plastic protective cover the cable is so tight and cant be flip back by hand easily like in the video. And trust me for this, the dipstick and oil sensor don’t need to be removed at all.

That is the same thing I am thinking. None of the stuff on the upper engine needs removing from what I can see. They seem to have nothing to do with the starter. I say "seems to" because I have never removed and installed a starter on this model.

Excellent tutorial showing the proper way to do this. I believe the factory manual calls for replacing the intake manifold gaskets and not reusing them.

It is crucial that you unplug your battery. If you don't unplug your battery and the live wire accidentally touches any part of the engine, you'll lose all of your fuses and your ECU. Don't be lazy. The tools you'll need: 17mm Socket 14mm Deep Socket 12mm Socket 10mm Socket Highly recommend a flex head ratchet

As someone else mentioned there is a Fifth bolt to remove the air intake manifold. It sits between 2 and 3 and under a runner on the manifold. A strong light will help you see it easier. It can be taken off from the top with an extension. Also they make it sound like it is easy to disengage the electrical circuit to the starter. It’s hard to reach. Take long needle nose plyers and clamp onto the wire directly under the hard plastic sheath. Gently and small force pull it back. Also recommended once your starter is out, take the new starter and look at how the electrical wires for into the starter before you go underneath and guide the new starter into position, because once you do visibility is limited and it’s based on memory and feel on how the electronics snap into place. Also recommended is taking the oil filter off. It’s much easier without it in the way. Good luck!! They do a good job in this, but it’s not easy.

No need to go under the car to fit the new starter. Only to tighten that bottom starter bolt.

I disagree. Only way that starter comes out is dropping down and under. Same as the new one going in.

Your wrong. The starter can be removed without pulling the intake period. Your just too dumb to figure it out.

They did this the manufacturer way, there are other videos showing ways to get it out from the bottom in about an hour

Air intake manifold is easy to remove anyway. This job could be done in an hour if you're fast and don't encounter any trouble bolts, nuts or clips. Usually it's the clips or a seized bolt that causes delays

TO ANYONE WATCHING. There is one more 12 mm bolt holding the intake manifold to the cylinder head not shown in the video. It is in the middle on the bottom of the manifold. 3 on bottom, 2 on top.

Fairly easy to get to the bolt from Ontop the engine it’s just not easy to see or feel. Get in there with a bright light and move around. You can see it from the top, it’s just really well hidden.

Video only applies to 07 08 fit. I just replace my starter on an 09 without removing the intake manifold.

I wish my dipstick tube came out that easy... if it breaks off I might have to take the whole nose off the car to reach through the front of the soppor frame that holds the radiator, condenser, fans... and then must take them off too.... just to cut it off the tube to a size where I can take and extractor tool to it that has a slide hammer... I wish they would make these vehicles more serviceable... its a starter replacement... not a piston... or what ever else you might want to compare it to that requires major dismantling of the engine components and vehicle... I long for the days when the old American cars that I once maintained and repaired where much easier and faster to be able to repair and replace broken components on. No dipstick tube to remove no dismantling of the intake required ( which can cause an air leak if it doesnt seal up when you torque it back down,,, hopefully with a new gasket in place ) I am into making a repair coupling for the tube made of hose clamps and oil cooler line of proper diameter to fit over the tube...

I have done this job on my 2008 Fit without removing intake manifold. Took me about 2 and a half hours. However, if there is a next time, I will remove the lower intake manifold (the aluminum section) only. I have done this when I changed the alternator. This way, you avoid all the extra step shown like removing the air filter box and unbolting the throttle body. The lower section of the intake manifold bolts to the plastic section with 5 easy to remove bolts.
