How To Replace the Spark Plugs on a Chrysler 200 3.6l V6

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we are replacing the spark plugs on a 2013 Chrysler 200 with the 3.6l V6. This procedure is very similar to the 3.2l V6. This will also work for similar year Dodge Avengers. We will be using Champion 9407 RER8ZWYCB4 spark plugs provided by the customer. Typically I use OEM spark plugs.

    I like the way that you replaced the spark plugs in the rear of the compartment first without removing the intake manifold. That way when reaching over the intake area you greatly reduced the chance of dropping something down any open holes. Great advice.

    Just picked up a 2013 200 with the 3.6 Pentastar. It has 117k for mileage. Was thinking of doing the plugs on it just for routine maintenance. Was at first intimidated looking at the the engine and what it might entail to change them. Randomly clicked on your video and was pleasantly surprised at how well you explained everything. Definitely looks like something I will be doing in the very near future. Thank-you for the video and keep up the great work.

    AHC Automotive, I like your video on changing the spark plugs on the Pentastar V6. Your video was very well done step by step and without music that someone else might not enjoy since music is a very personal choice. I own a '12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible that I want to take good care of and do things to the car myself. I have already done front and rear disk brake reline using Centric brake parts. I'm going to do spark plug change and throttle body cleaning by this summer. Thanks for the video.

My olnly question is how long to get rid of the ck engine light telling me misfiring on cylinder 6. changed the plugs. all the components look good. what else causes misfire. can't hear any more misfiring

    Thanks! Not sure on your misfire, there could be other things causing it. Bad coil, bad injector, etc. You'd have to dig in with a scanner and or scope to really say for sure, otherwise you will just be throwing parts at it.

    Actually found this video useful for changing N1S1 O2 sensor on a Chrysler 200. Pretty similar implementation, except I think that the plenum/resonator assembly might have a 1/2 inch less room in the Chrysler. It was a beast to get back on and not very fun getting it off either. I only removed the power feed from the plenum in my case. Once I gently crowbarred the plenum up in back, I rotated it about 45 degrees counter-clockwise and it came out pretty easy. I notice he skipped that wrestling match in the video .

    Thanks for doing this video! I'm about to replace plugs on my wife's 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited V6 at just shy of 95k on the odometer. Even after adding Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment with every fill up for the last 10K miles, the acceleration is still a little sluggish. It is definitely better than it was before, so I'm hoping new plugs will help even more. I plan on doing new upper manifold gaskets as you've suggested now too, so thanks for that tip. Do you have any thoughts on just replacing all 6 Ignition Coil Packs at the same time as doing the plugs and upper gaskets? Figured it's something easy for preventative maintenance that should give us another ~100k, before any misfiring or coil issues may occur. I'd appreciate any input you might have.

    You can change them if you'd like, but if you're not getting any misfires, they're probably ok. I have 160k on the 2015 Jeep on the channel, plugs at 95k, original coils. I think my sister is nearing similar mileage on this 200 with original coils. They're not a cheap part to replace. I don't see the Pentastar having the issues Ford did on the 4.6/5.4s.

  • @rael5469
    @rael54692 жыл бұрын

    It would be interesting to know what the gap on the old plugs was at 100,000 miles. Just as a comparison. Maybe we should be changing them sooner than 100,000 miles. Maybe Chrysler says 100,000 miles just for marketing purposes...to make the car seem competitive with other brands.

  • @rael5469

    With all the work it takes to get in there....would it be wise to just replace the coils along with the spark plugs, rather than have one or more coils go bad down the road? I'm a big fan of replacing targets of opportunity. I'll be darned if I'm going to repeat all that work to get at a component in that area later down the road. That's my outlook anyway.

  • @famoushollywood

    About to be doing this. Thanks for the video!! Only thing is, I am unsure about the gapping. I got the same spark plugs as you have in the video. Do I need to buy a gap tool and gap these? It kind of seemed like they were already pre gapped? I also may have to change a coil so I'll have to find out how to test to see which one is bad if it isn't the spark plugs...my check engine light came on for a cylinder 6 misfire. Is that the best grease to get? Was going to buy from oreillys....I clicked on the link and it shows silicone but the one you have is non silicone? I have a 2015 Chrysler200....will these have the same placements of everything? This is the only video I can find of 3.6L

    Correct. And his heads get to hot for it to really work. Also always replace the boot they have conducting coils in them. When removing any plug in an aluminum head start by tightening slightly and seesaw it before removing so it dumps the corrosion it may have before going across the thread. Use sea foam in the tank and in the vacuum system.
