    What am I doing here? I am a Toyota 4x4 guy with my head stuffed with LR stereotypes :) And what? And I watch one episode after another with pleasure. And this pleasure is definitely not because of delicate nature of LRs, but because of your real passion and skills to make great and funny videos. BTW I love your tires test. It was the most professional amateur tire test I have seen in my life. Like Clarkson said "a car made in German shed is better than a car built in English factory". Ups... I didn't mind LR - OF COURSE. :) Keep on doing. Cheers from Poland.

    No, you must have misunderstood that. We do not, under any circumstance trust any shop. Our own cars, no matter what brand, from the past or in the future, will not see any shop from the inside. That is a given. This Discovery from that video, and many more on our channel, is not our own. This one belongs to a viewer who happens to live close by. Thank you, the more I see of these vehicles the more nervous I become! Some news, Richard Parry-Jones was Ford global vice-president of engineering and an automotive genius. In the 1990s he saved Ford by raising the dynamics of their vehicles to a level which forced other manufacturers to up their game. His influence on Ford is why the LR3 handles so well. Unfortunately he died in an accident on his farm about 3 weeks ago, he was 69.

I saw the conversion first hand in Castle Brom and Coventry. This was indeed a huge push for Jaguar. It made the cars a bit less classic but more affordable in the long run. A shame that this man died so jung. Christian

    Dear Crhistian and Vera, your channel is one of the best ... I would like to drive such a car - maybe in any time period over the next 2 years hopefully. One point for discussion is any lubricant or without on screws or bolts for the wheels? I know, there should be nothing ... I do repairs on my car as well by my own or sometimes done by my favorite garage. In the past I never used any lubricant - but depending on the brand or system you can have some or more corrosion and you have problems to fix the wheels under good conditions and more force is necessary. So the result was damaged screws (take new screws) and once damaged wheel bearing due to the thread. After discussion with the garage and they use it always ... recommendation of some very small amount of lubricant. You have to handle it very carefully ...and I checked in time periods the torque force - result o.k. I know it must be done safe ... but with corrosion you can have as well a risk. It is no recommendation if anybody can not handle it in the right way!

  • @Vera_and_Christian

    @Vera_and_Christian

    Жыл бұрын

    This is a topic of big debates. We use lube on all bolts which are known to seize but we use great care and sometimes reduce the torque. We do not use lube under the bold heads unless specified by LR. On wheel nuts we use only a light coat of WD40 and only if there is corrosion. If they are clean, we install them dry. I clean corroded studs with a brass wire wheel. We do not use antzi seize inside the engine or for major engine components, like the crankshaft bolt, etc and of course. People wrote their Diplomarbeit over this. I do go by experience as a industrial machine builder a lot. Christian

    Again, another job well done Christian, Vera always a delight, my down hose split last year, chucking out plenty of smoke, l replaced it but this video tells me the other 2 hoses are “beyond my capabilities” - l love my LR3 but it’s getting to the stage of “what’s next?” Wife went out yesterday on return “had a problem with the hand brake” luckily it came off ok - but obviously that’s the next thing now it’s getting to a point to where l just want to leave it in the garage even though it’s running well my heart isnt strong enough (or my wallet) to be a LR3 owner me thinks

    I suggestion, get some Zinc or Aluminum paste like Sealey SCS103, MolySlip 11005 or Permatex Aluminum 80078, this will prevent galling and corrosion from dissimilar metals plus they are good for brakes and most of the other uses I see on your channel… copper slip is old chemistry and not really suited for steel/aluminum combinations like you have in calipers, heat shields and wheel hubs… you can get things ‘welding on’ like wheels to hubs or corroding through like heat shields. Ceramic grease is another option 👍 Copper slip is ok on steel/steel bolts etc.

    Sure the is no problem to use a bit of light oil like WD40. If LR specifies “dry”, it is dry. As if you would use compressed air to blow the WD40 of prior install. I do this occasionally this way too. Christian

    Hello Christian and Vera, thank you very much for your videos, yesterday I found them and I have enjoyed them very much, sorry for my English, it's bad I hope you can understand me, I am considering buying a Discovery 3 diesel and I have read a lot about them, some speak badly and others speak very well. In maintenance things and some more complicated jobs I do myself, but I would like to ask you: what things do I have to consider to buy a Discovery? thank you very much in advance and…. keep making videos that I really like

    So if you buy a Disco 3, it is going to have a couple of miles under its belt. Here is what I wrote another viewer asking basically the sam question. : The following has to have been done : New timing belt AND fuel pump belt, new diesel filter, and of course oil filter, new brakes, new front suspension bushings, new serpentine belt, both differential oil changes, automatic transmission fluid, new transfercase oil, good driveshaft centerbearing, new EGR valves, no play in the wheelbearings, driveshaft gaitors are still intakt, A/C is working, there are no engine faults ( have that shown to you with a diagnostic tool ) and the battery is fairly new. Check the bills for those fixes, do not trust the maintenance record blindly. Fabians car has a clean record and half that stuff was not done. 200000 Km is a lot and those are the typical problems that will occur when it has not been done already. If that all has been done, this car has been taken care of for sure. What we also like to add always is that the car is the greatest car around, if you are able to fix it yourself. 🙋‍♀️ Vera

    I really enjoyed your videos with your wife. I have a problem with the sunroof on my Land Rover LR3 2005. I check the fuses, and all of them are good. However, I have to change the switch for the sunroof, and it is still not working, and I think the sunroof motor is bad. I see that your truck does not have a sunroof but can you help me. In the back seat, I have the AC control in the ceiling, I have removed the switches that control the rear AC, and it is not easy to get the motor out, and I like you to create a video on how to fix the sunroof. Or should I look for other things? Greetings Bram

    The oil is normal, coming from the turbo. That is why the hoses break when they are soked in that oil after som 80000 km. You might have to change the other hoses at one point too, they will also break eventually. 🙋‍♀️ Vera

    The standard intercooler hoses will most likely not last as long as Silicone hoses, but the flexibility in the rubber allows for more expansion thus taking pressure off weaker components like the intake manifolds which are prone to splitting on the D3 and D4. So usually silicone wouldn’t be recommended on these vehicles until someone designs upgraded intake manifolds that don’t split I would still use rubber hoses.

  • @Vera_and_Christian

    @Vera_and_Christian

    The intercooler hoses absorb a lot of oil coming from the turbo and get soft. You see it when the hose is like bulging right behind the clamp. We had it happening on both, my Freelander while on vacation in Switzerland, and on the Discovery (both at aroung 180000 Km). They will break sooner or later for sure. And since Fabian has really big plans, we don't think it should happen in the middle of nowhere.😅 🙋‍♀️ Vera
