NICE details! Stops people either dissecting too much, or damaging something (like brake hoses) or getting injured trying to take a shortcut!! BRAVO 👏 SIR!

Best video I've seen to remove the front struts. Up close and personal with the camera I love it.

The shock has a marker for L and R which needs to line up inside the knuckle clamp's gap. (Don't use the vague "where does the shelf point" method shown here.) The control and tension arms rubber mounts should only be tightened down when the wheel hub is at actual ride position. That's because the rubber mounts don't rotate, and needs to be in a neutral position when the car is at rest. If you get this wrong the arms will be toast very soon. Measure before starting job for correct height. Lifting the hub to get to that position can be a bit hairy, as the car lifts off it's stand. (From memory, I think you can get away with not undoing those arms for a strut replacement.) Adjust stands so the car doesn't crash down on them if the jack fails. All nuts removed here needs replacing with new ones (they deform permanently to perform a locking function -once). Beisan Systems has the best description.

What brand are those shocks? At 15 seconds in, in this video, you can see the label with the L and R markers. I had some Sachs ones that had the sticker in the wrong place (far too high up on the shock). Weird. They did seem to be oriented correctly regarding the L and R position, though. The reference would be the spring perch (shelf) at the top of the shock tube. The orientation must be the same as the old (and a correctly marked shock). I don't know how critical this is, but a good effort should get it within a few degrees or so, which hopefully will be good enough! So use your old shocks to figure out the exact orientation of the shelf vs the markings, and make your own markings on the new shock.

You bring some VERY IMPORTANT points to this installation! BMW engineers are brilliant, and don't rely on cotter pins, but single use fasteners!

EXCELLENT detail! You can't just "guesstimate" such things. BMW suspension is heavily engineered for precise handling!
