Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose small engine problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

This guy's videos are amazing. So well shot, so concise and helpful.
hi Donyboy73 thankyou for helping me figure out wihc way the gaskets are suppose to go I was abit confused on one of them and when I saw your video I learned how to make sure it's in the right spot, I'm also rebuilding a champion generator I'm excited about it.
Thanks Dony: I have had very good luck with Chinese aftermarket carburetors in my small engine shop. Sometimes a new carb. is cheaper that buying an over hall kit. Your video's are the best. Many Thanks

I have a Generac GP7500E made is 2014. The engine was surging/hunting. Cleaning the carburetor with spray stuff didn't fix the problem so I decided to change the carburetor, $100 for parts, 2 day shipping and sales tax. These directions were PERFECT. It saved me time and Hundreds of Dollars. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Big thank you. Everything about this video is impeccable. Instructions, information, level of detail, flow of the video, tips, tricks, and reminders, and to top it all off, amazing camera work and video editing. A true example of what a repair / replacement video should look like.
Thanks Don - had the replacement carb in a box for about 6 months avoiding the anticipated stress, but watching your video made it a 15 minute operation, and the generator started on the first pull. Kudos, sir. Joe
Very helpful. Thanks for showing where/how gaskets fit.
Watched my Champion generator come to life after swapping out the carb following your instructions, Started first pull, whoohoo, Many thanks
I have been trying to get my Powerland 4000 Honda clone generator running since about this time last fall. Since I have always cut the fuel and let the carb run dry that was the last thing I expected, but I put a new one on today following your instructions in this video and it ran on the first pull. My generator looks almost exactly like the Champion in your video and the carb., fuel valve and air intake are identical. I have been subscribed to your video's since I found this one over the last year. Thanks for this video. It saved me from getting rid of a perfectly usable generator.
thank you for such an instructive video. after reviewing it a couple of times, i was able to swap out my defective carb with a new one in about only 15 minutes and get my generator running again.
Thank you for this video! You helped me get my generator operational!
I like your tips on shutting off the fuel and starting generator every month. You don't want the generator not to start when you need it!!!
Thanks Don for the imfo in this repair video. Your explanation and camera work is awesome. Thank You.
Excellent video! So clear and concise. Thank You!!!
Thank you , amazing work . I now feel confident enough to replace it myself
Repaired my generator with advice from another video. Thank you 😊
Thanks, Don...a simple fix that was fun to watch as well.
Great job Don, I really enjoy watching your videos. Very informative and helpful all the time. Thank you for taking the time to help others. Now on to your next video the Stihl weed trimmer no start. Have a blessed day & Again Thank You!!
I have an 18 year old Honda powered 8,000 Watt Generac wired up to my house via a Transfer Panel. Just in case, I keep a spare Honda carb on hand in case I need to change mine out after a Hurricane. Haven't had to use it yet, but if I need it running during an extended outage, I don't want to spend time rebuilding and troubleshooting. The complete carb cost $5.00 more than the Honda rebuild kit.
Great video Dony, thanks and have a great weekend.,
Nice DB73 quality video - nice to have a detailed repair video. Thanks for sharing
Repaired my generator with advice
Very good video! I found what I was looking for!
Great video, thanks. My OPE dealer recommended Fuel Medic to help control Ethanol. I run 89 Octane fuel with the Fuel Medic added. I am 2 for 2 on Chinese carbs so far. One on an 025 Stihl chainsaw and one on a 3500 watt Honda gen set.
I did on a generator a cuple months ago, thanks for the video.
Now that is what I call a super amazing instruction video Thanks for posting it and now I can change my carburetor on my new Champion 4000 that was not used till I needed it and would not start. I could start it with "quick start fluid" sprayed into the carb and it would run for 5 seconds and then quit. My guess is that the carb is plugged with old fuel.
K 100 is the best I have seen so far....... Thanks to ypu and Kevin doing that video I am now a K 100 dealer.... Kevin sent me a nice care package with the display case for 9 bottles of K 100 and pamphlets on the product. Also 2 bottles of the K 100 for gas engines since we don't do diesel engines in the shop.......... The company we deal with outboard engine parts is the Louisiana distributor for our area..... I order it by the case...... That stuff works well........ Plus Tard Mon Ami ~!~!

Thank you! Perfect!
Thanks Donny . Great video as always., I have several generators I acquired . One looks a lot like this one but has a Kawasaki engine.
Thanks for sharing, donyboy73! We appreciate all you do, even when you're at the keyboard editing a video, wondering why you're up so late after a busy day. :)

How about a video on misaligned snow blower idler pulleys. Either because of bent bracket/arm. Had to shim mine some to get better alignment. Thanks for all you do to help us with our equipment. Cheers.
Nice video! I have the same generator. A couple of years ago, I ordered a cheaper carburetor on ebay and it gave me problems after a while. I spoke to the people at Champion tech support. They said to use their parts and use 5W 30 oil after the the generator is broken in.
@bubbatime
4 жыл бұрын
Never use 5W30 in the south (Texas, GA, FL) etc, for hurricane outages. It will blow. 15W40 is robust and will last longer between changes if you forget to change it.
Best videos!
I have to remember that information since I have two generators and both need to be worked on.
would you recomend a champion generator? what engine do they use? seen many but didn’t hear feedback
Great video bruh! 👍🏽 Did it really crank the first time?
Unfortunately I would have to drive 35 miles round trip to get ethanol free gas here in Massachusetts. I follow all of your tips with my gas engines.
Good a one
Had 2 small lock washers came off after pulling carburetor base cover off on head side, after nuts and regular washers off. Dont know where they came off. it was dark ...do u put any thing on the head side of the carburetor gasket ? Or just gasket?
Good how to video of course, but not the answer I seek. My replacement carburetor has the solenoid on bottom of float bowl and the original don't so what do I wire it to? Its on a Sportsman Generator with a 13 hp engine. Thanks donyboy!
Here 24 hours before 🌀 Hurricane Ian hit
Hey there Don. I'm working on a DeWalt model of the similar style, same engine. can you share a link to the Carb and gaskets? Thanks
Hey man, nice informative video. I just did the exact same procedure on a GP3250, very similar generator. Replaced the carb, got the speed adjusted but now it stalls when a load is applied, even a small one like 500 watts. I played with the mixture screw, got it to stay running under load but it slows right down. Any clue? Thanks!
so what hole should the governor return spring be in should it be in the same hole as the push rod or the empty hole next to the push rod on the governor arm
donyboy73, do you have a link to where you get your carburetors from, this one in particular? My champion generator would only run on half choke, with choke fully off it would just surge up and down. Cleaned out the carb, all passages including the 5 pin holes inside on the throttle side and now doesn't even want to start. If I squirt gas directly into carb it will run for a split second only. Bowl fills up with gas no problem, float was tested after assembly by blowing into it right side up then upside down.
Smashing fix :-D, for a cloned engine it seems quite decent. It shows that not all china made copys are bad.

I had a Champion 3200 watt generator, it worked great, wasn't very quite but it started pretty easily and never had any trouble with it. I sold it due to no longer using it often enough and I only had it a couple years so not really very long to really see much trouble.
Donny do you recommend checking and cleaning the sediment screen under the shutoff valve or maybe even adding a fuel filter?
@donyboy73
5 жыл бұрын
yes it's a good idea to do both
Hey don't boy I bought a Dixon ZTR311 and it has a Biggs motor, It did not have the rewind housing and I can't find model or type on the OHV cover... can u help me find out another way to find these numbers... please thank u. 'Joe'
Greetings, I have a 3.5hp Briggs push mower that's giving me some grief. Last time I ran it, I had to disassemble and free up the starter clutch (left out uncovered all winter) and pulled the carb and cleaned everything and reassembled it. Prior to the carb clean it would run ok but pop every once in a while. After the work, I started it to make sure it ran and it was like new, but I shut it off after a few seconds and let it sit for about a week. Now it cranks fine (feels like good compression) and it won't start. It fires through the muffler and the carburetor sometimes. It ran for about half a second and died...I've pulled the plug a few times to clear out any fuel and make sure it isn't flooded. I didn't hit anything so I'm not really leaning towards a sheared flywheel key but I'll be damned if the symptoms don't line up.
I am wondering if a Honda airfilter will work on the Champion? Seems that the air filter is a weak link in the engine. Does that air filter get oiled?

yes some are interchangeable with Honda, you can spray a bit of wd-40 on it
hello donyboy73.. i have a Generator that runs good but when i put it on full throtttle it revs higher than normal and sputters a bit on half throttle. can you tell me how to fix these issues ? also mind you i have cleaned the carb and rebuilt it, i have put in fresh ethenol free fuel, and a new spark plug.
Hey I watched your video and I changed the carburetor it started good for few minutes and then went into shock any advice
I guess it depends on the source for the Chinese carb...I am 0 for 1 with them so far...got one on eBay for a small Briggs mower and it had no venturi! Also was missing some of the white plugs on top...one of those is a plug to help the primer bulb develop a vacuum...
Where can I get K 100 in the Brampton area.
I have done this twice. Unfortunately here in the U.S. most fuel contains ethanol. I used "Stabil" fuel stabilizer and it was actually worse. I just run all of my small engines at least every couple of weeks for 5-10 minutes and shut the fuel switch off to let them run dry.
Is there a small spacer this supposed to go between the carburetor
Hi man, thanks. How do you know the correct valve clearance for those Chinese engines?
@donyboy73

between .003"-.005"
How about doing a dual fuel carburetor cleaning.
Porfavor donyboy73 podrias escribir el numero DE parte DE Este carburador .no importa si es DE Amazon parte te lo agradecere gracias amigo donyboy73!!!
Do you have a good source for carbs?
@Longtrailside

I've bought a few off of Amazon, including the one i just replaced the other day for my 20+ year old tecumseh sears lawnmower. Started on first pull. Just need the engine info to look it up. Sure ebay has them to, but i dont trust paypal.
Fixed mine today. They only problem I still have is the governor linkage. Can't really see on the video. . and my new one isn't quite the same as the old one...not really a hole, just a slot
I just put a chinese carb on it, but it's not running fast enough. How do get more rpm or more gas from carb? thanks
I have a wired cap under the carb,,, what's that ???
Does the rpm need to be checked after the install?

@@donyboy73 Thanks for the help.
Did that engine run off of carb cleaner?
I'm replacing carburetor on an older champion generator right now...it is a 389cc model...needle valve was frozen stuck in seat and when I pulled it out it broke in half...unfortunately the only replacement needle I could find online for this carb was 13 dollars plus shipping...for 22 dollars mind as well get brand new carb with fuel solenoid and all...why in the world do they have a starter recoil that you can pull if battery dies yet it has a fuel solenoid in....the fuel solenoid is going to be shutting the fuel jet closed if the battery is dead and not giving it the voltage it needs to open...so how can you pull start it with fuel solenoid anti backfire valve closing off main jet? Dumb design or am I missing something?
Is this a common problem and did this unit have many hours.
@donyboy73
6 жыл бұрын
yes it's common
Sorry that was suppose to say Donnyboy
I thought you were supposed to adjust the RPM's and thus voltage, after you were done? Your generator is showing 127 volts, so its running a little fast. Just a question...
There must've seriously been something wrong with that carby for it to need replacing such as corrosion or something !
I did all these steps and mine is now sirrging. The governor is moving side to side and slowly pulls the choke over to run. Once it reaches run it will turn off. If i hold choke in place it will stay on and surging

Do they sell ethanol blended gasoline in Canada? Here in the US all our fuel is 10% ethanol blended. For small engines and boats it’s liquid evil!

Replacement Chinese carbs are so cheap you can order several and take best of the lot. Not even worth cleaning/rebuilding anymore.
