Thank you so much for posting this video! It was so very helpful! Several months ago my air conditioner/ heater fan started making an unsettling noise whenever I turned it on. The higher I turned it on the more unsettling the noise became. My gut was mostly telling me and hopeful that something possibly got in the fan from the overflow from the glove compartment (my daughter and her 30 lip gloss and chapsticks, etc...). The other thing of course, was also to check the air filter and air filter compartment.Which I will be commenting on that video of yours which was also a huge help and blessing. So because of your video for the first time ever I removed my fan motor and sure enough, There was a chapstick inside!! I removed the chapstick, re attached the fan motor and turned on the AC/heater and the sound was completely gone! Mystery solved! I saved money by doing it myself. Now we can run the A/C next weekend while visiting AZ. My daughter learned some lessons here and I feel like a million bucks for accomplishing the job. #girlpower 😊

Excellent video Man! I have a Nissan Xterra 2002. I had a "rumbling" sound coming from behind my glove compartment when I put my heater on. And, there was very little force in the fan. I first checked the cabin filter for obstructions. I had to remove the glove compartment to do this. It was full of straw which I cleaned out. Next, I took out the blower motor just as you showed. Sure enough, it was jam packed with straw, including the compartment that the blower is attached to. The fan could not spin! It is obvious to me that mice had been working on building a nest. I was away on vacation and my vehicle sat for 2 weeks. I cleaned out the blower motor and the area behind it. After cleaning out everything, I reassembled the blower motor and put back the glove compartment back in place. Everything works perfectly! Thanks for the video, and for saving me money!

Thanks for the video! Pulled my cabin air filters out today and ended up dropping acorns on the motor. Watched another video where the guy ripped the whole glove box out and thought there’s GOT to be a better way. This was perfect. Cleaned and oiled the fan while we had it out and now it runs smooth and quiet.

Hey I have a question. My 2013 Xterra ac blower changes speeds on all settings. For example it will blow at its proper speed for whatever setting it’s on however every couple of seconds it will slow down for a bit then speed back up. Do you think it would be the resistor?

Thanks a lot for your instruction video, Ry. I had a fan noise that turned out being a piece of a drinking straw. Crazy! I have no idea how that got there. Also, my Xterra had a insulation cover over the fan motor. I had to remove some stubborn clips on the screws to get that out first. I wonder if some models had that, while others didn't.

We brought it to the dealer and they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it and said maybe it was air in the lines??? They flushed and bled the system and charged me $250 and it’s still not working. Any thoughts??

I've been having trouble with my ac for a month now. I've already checked the fuses and have replaced the resistor but I'm still not getting any air flow. The compressor kicks on but the blower motor doesn't turn, could this be a relay issue or the blower itself? Awesome videos by the way, I've used both this one and the cabin filter one!

This is great. My Nissan X-trail is not so easy. I got a quote of $1300+ labour to get my blower replaced. From my mechanic who charges WAY less than the Nissan dealership. My fan only works if I have my block heater plugged in for hours before or overnight. If I go out for an errand and get back in my X-trail the fan no longer works. It's aggravating when you live in Canada and there are -55 °Celsius (-67°F) wind chill days and I cannot afford this bill. Only replacing the motor and resistor from removing them from the entire assembly is affordable at $95 for both parts is feasible. I know you said not to remove the parts but in this 2005 vehicle I need an affordable option. What do you suggest?

Great video man, was super easy to replace the motor with your help. Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem. I can feel slight warm air at the vents with heater on, but no blowing. Not sure what to do now. Obviously the resister comes to mind, but people have said if like one setting functions only, then it's probably resister. All 4 of my settings don't perform, so I don't know.

  • @Rythecarguy

That's true, its DEFINATLY the resistor when only 1 or 2 are dead on the dial. It COULD be the resistor when none work. The other option is that your switch is dead. I would do resistor next.

+Feint that's really hard to say. I bought this truck knowing it had problems so I could make videos on it. Now that I fixed the problems I would say that the trucks very reliable. I would say check out the issue with the automatic transmission if you're thinking of getting an automatic. Also when you test drive it listen for a high-pitched whining that increases with RPMs this could indicate the secondary timing chain guides have worn out and it's a huge pain to fix but I do have a video on it. I don't however have a video on the transmission cooler bypass issue because I have a manual transmission.

On my 2009 Xterra, I had quite a surprise when I changed the cabin air filter. It seems that I was traveling with a stowaway who had decided to make his nest just above the cabin air filter. I removed the cowl cover between the windshield and the engine compartment, and I installed a sturdy anti-rodent mesh above the air intake of the ventilation system on the passenger side. I don't understand why, from the start, Nissan did not block access to this opening against the infiltration of harmful little critters. This opening is easily accessible to small rodents, passing through the inside of the fender trim, then through an opening allowing the passage of the antenna cable and the windshield washer hose.
