As a Christian, I have felt the need to express gratitude for those professionals that make an effort to help others with their problems. I have viewed many how to's, but what makes this one stand out is that it covers everything in a concise video - better than reading a repair manual - thank you so much.

This is the best description of what happened in my system. At low speeds, my 23 year-old blower motor would make groaning and squealing noises. Little did I know, just like he explained, this was an indication the bearings were drying up and causing the blower to draw additional power. Soon after this started all I could get was high speed. I changed both my blower motor and resistor and all is good again.

Super easy explanation very clear how/why/when everything works. Will of course start with filter, draw, clogged hose, then module to transistor in motor/and last motor itself! Thanks So Much! If i can't do it myself go in with a LOT OF Knowledge! Great Job/ Explanation! Great Job Thanks Again!

Thanks so much! i purchased an 07 Tacoma recently and this resistor is bad, it does not appear as if the cabin filter has ever been cleaned !! But thanks to you i will also check the blower motor before changing the resistor. this same part failed in my 07 Ford Freestyle and an OEM resistor was recomended by the DIY you tuber. He said after market resistors did not work for this part, but interestingly checking the blower motor wasn't mentioned, and there is no cabin filter in my Freestyle. thanks again, Subscribed 😍

I was going to mention that.. I've watched a few dozen videos of troubleshooting blower motors/and resistors. A lot of them say that if the resistor fails soon after replacing.. that its most often the blower motor is over stressing and burning up the resistor. Maybe the blower motor on this car was doing good physically.. but maybe the electrical plug on that blower motor was failing and putting stress on the resistor. Could a few leaves really restrict the air flow so much that the resistor would fail after 1 month? Hows his car doing now? Did it fail again?

Excellent video with one slight error I believe?? By all means I welcome anyone challenging this but its my understanding that: ... clogged fans increase the speed of the motor but decrease the current draw. We see this on our home shop-vac vacuum cleaners when we block the air inlet the motor fan speed increases. Current draw on motors is closely tied to mass air flow which decreases with dirty filters. That said dirty filters can decrease the cooling of the blower motor and decrease the cooling of the current limiting resistor which I believe is a much greater issue with a clogged air filter. In other words the motor overheats due to poor ventilation from dirty filters which can prematurely kill the motor and resistor.

Have a 2004 Acura TL. Blower motor fan stuck on high speed only when driving down road. Unable to turn it off at all. The A/C also shut down at the same time. After some digging I found that the resistor had failed (it had burn marks around some of the solder on the circuit board) which in turn caused the A/C to shut down (I assume for protection). After buying a new motor resistor, the fan now works on all speeds and the A/C works again. Not bad for $25 fix. Probably saved $500 or so. It did take me (a complete novice) about 5 hours to figure out, but worth it as I now have future knowledge.

Thank you Mike. Short class on Honda/Acura Blower Power Transistor testing would help allot of techs. How the control module sends analog voltage to the Mosfet to control the transistor. Show them the control signal, back probed and at all speeds. Then unplug the power transistor and show them the control signal voltage again at all speeds. This will help determine if the control unit is delivering the control voltage to the power transistor connector. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family.

Thank you for this video but my problem is a little different. I have a 1996 Toyota RAV4. The blower is on and off. I replaced the resistor. It didn't work right away (it actually started working the next day - on all levels). Took my RAV in to get an oil change and had my Mechanic check the blower itself and he said it was good. No air blowing on any level 2 days later. Tried the blower again the next day and the blower was working. Someone said it may be a bad ground or a bad switch or relay. Your input would be helpful. Thanks

I would have checked the current draw from the motor after the filter and resistor replacement just to be sure. Also, if the motor has a rubber hose connected to it's housing and the other end of the hose to HVAC housing, make sure that hose and the housing are not plugged up with trash, animal nest material or whatever was trying to make a home in the housing.

years ago, it was common for a failing blower to cook the "high speed" relay, while the dinosaur resistor block (coils) would survive just fine (usually rust got them!) of course they was also under the hood mounted into the giant heat/ac box then. now days opposite happens, the resistor circuit board or driver module cooks.... some great improvement there LOL

I have a 2009 ford f150 with dual automatic temperature control. My blower motor speed module melted and quit working. Replaced it with a new aftermarket and it worked for a few minutes and stayed stuck on high speed and my compressor clutch won't engage now. All the relays and fuses related to the AC system are good. Could it be that the blower motor is causing the computer not to open the circuit for the compressor clutch? Any help will be apreciated. ( I have replaced the blower motor speed control module with an OEM motorcraft from the dealership and I have all the speeds working now) Also I have a new hig pressure switch or pressure transducer and a new evaporator temperature sensor. The ambient air temperature sensor seems to be reading the temperature accurately and my compressor clutch looks fine and runs smoothly when jumped at the clutch relay.

When I turn the power on ( without starting the car ) I can hear the clicking sounds behind the glove box. So, something is TRYING. But no air. I am going to check the air cabin filter. Also, with a shop vac, gonna try to reach down into the area and see if it's a twig / leaf / debris build-up that caused a clog or failure.

My 2017 Mazda CX-5 has 7 AC speeds and the first 3 vent almost no air. I already replaced the Blower control module since the car has automatic AC but did not solve the problem. After that I had the blower motor fan checked for obstruction from leaves and replaced the cabin filter but also this did not help. The AC air is cold it's just that the lower speeds vent almost no air. I also have a 2021 CX5 so I can compare the flow on each of the 7 speeds.

It is as you say: "Cabin air filters were only introduced in cars that were built after the year 2000. They prevent pollutants from entering the vehicle's cabin, as well as leaves, bugs and other debris from entering the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system."

Hello, Looking at the wiring diagram, if the motor works on speeds 1,2,3, I would start by check the blower switch and the blower switch connector. I hope this helps you track down your issue Ryan Wilsing

After repeatedly burning new resistors, I replaced my filter, blower and resistor, but it keeps burning my resistors at low speeds in like 10 minutes. My AC blows on high, but turns off my AC light and won't cool. I'm in Florida and really only turn on my AC on high anyways since it's a van with big open cargo area. I'd like to hardwire bypass my resistor since it's like the 3rd one I burn. I see the motor had a thick brown and orange cable going up into some harness. My resistor has thinner Brown, Blue, Black and yellow lines going back into where my switches are. How can can I get my A/C light to stay on when my fan is on high, it seems some relay or dependency on the resistor is causing this. BTW, the AC light turns on in speeds 1-3, but the fan won't blow. Again, a new resistor works great but gets really hot and burns out quickly on low.

Hello, What year, make, model van do you drive? On most vehicles the A/C light it related to compressor operation and can be inhibited by the vehicle for multiple reasons, A/C pressure issues, Check engine light, temp sensor malfunction. It is rarely tied to the blower resistor. But you may have some type of wiring issue causing it. Especially if you are burning up resistors. ~Ryan

The blower in my van must be wired straight to the battery, it squeals while running, sounds like it wants to seize up, previous owner jacked the wiring, trying to wire it straight to a power source, the dash switch was stuck.

Won't a blocked cabin air filter reduce the load on the motor? It has less air to move? If I put my hand on the vacuum, the motor speeds up because it no longer has air to push.
