How to replace the AC Blend Door Actuator on a 2011 Mustang Shelby GT500
The blend door actuator on my 2011 Mustang Shelby GT500 started making a clicking sound when you turn on the car or adjust the HVAC controls. This is a common failure on the mustangs from this generation. The fix is to replace the actuator which is only a $20 part. Unfortunately the space is very limited so access is difficult. The part I used to fix it is 604-262.

I love the Black/Red color combo. I think I've said it about 10 times already but that is one bad ass car!

Yes they are
Nice job Dan! Not an easy task. I recently replaced the climate timing actuator on my F355, which looks like it was a bit easier than what you had to go through. Your car is looking great! Fun stuff.

Dan, I have a 2010 GT that seems to have a faulty actuator. I hear the clicking sound on startup and when adjusting the temp. My question is, is there only one type for all the actuators? I’d like to replace them all in one go. Or are there different types?’

Hey Dan, you want to perform that fix for me?! I’m in a wheelchair and certainly can’t get in to any kind of position to fix that and my 2010 Stang has been doing that since i bought it 7 years ago with 10k miles!😂

Yeah it is just poor design
You're better off with the Duralast. Fords are NOTORIOUS for having these fail, and my assumption is because they're made of utter shit. I have a dead one in my Fusion, but in order to get to it the "easy way" you have to remove the steering column covers, panels surrounding the steering wheel, the dash binnacle, and then have 5-foot long arms with toddler-sized fingers to reach the actuator. Having one of those automotive endoscopes helps, too, in case you want to do it by sight instead of feel. And of course on my car they didn't use hex-head screws, they actually used Phillips head screws, and you can't get enough leverage to avoid stripping the third screw. So I looked up the "not easy way" to get access to it, and it requires you to also remove the airbag, steering wheel, and dis-assemble part of the steering column as well. Needless to say, I've lived with it just blowing in my face for the past few months because there are some parts of the steering column assembly that are not meant to be re-used, so I'd have to throw those out and spend even more money on it. For all of the hassle, it's almost work paying the dealer the $1200 or whatever to do it for me.

Ugh! I hate when $20 parts cost $1180 in labor. Lol
