@@kevijrmusic5715 It is difficult and I had to use a cheater bar, but I did it. First time I changed anything that wasn't an air filter or windshield wiper for my vehicle as well... The ants had a little mini meal of my arms as well.

Not to nit pick, please I'm just adding my 2 cents, so-to-speak. You guys make great videos, I have learned so much from this guy. However, I am electrician, by trade and while most of the work is different, a lot crosses over, especially on the industrial side of things. If you didn't need that much length, on the positive cable, I would have cut it, and put a new circle connector, on the end of it, and possibly taped a little bit on the end. You could've wired brush it off. The problem with the shrink wrap, and tape IMO, is it make the wire very rigid. And it usually needs to bend, at least a little, I also, would have put some electrulux, under that eye fitting on the end of the wire. As the wire is copper, and the connector is steel, or aluminum, I will give you mad respect, for using that abrasive wheel, to clean the bare metal down to shiny. But great job altogether, and great video as always.

I had the starter replaced and it just spools but doesn't engage the flywheel I'm thinking bad starter out the box is that possible?? Thanks for any input

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 and I'm trying to find that starter pigtail and I'm having no luck so any help would be great

Okay what is a trigger wire for on a starter is that to help it will that have anything to do with it not engaging

Im replacing the starter on my 2002 dakota sport 3.9 now someone else took it off we dont know what to do about the large hole if there is a spacer that goes in place to keep it from sliding now on yours I see your r the same as mine is the large mounting hole for ajusting it to the fly wheel

Does the 5.2 engine take the same stater.

Anybody having trouble with the top bolt? For the life of me I can't break it loose

Does that smaller wire hook up to the negative terminal?

I'm in the middle of switching my starter now and it's not cranking over at all. It just spins but won't turn the motor over. I think the new one is bad but I put the old one back on and it's doing the same thing

You have to make sure the start is making contact with the fly wheel

Is this the same thing for a 97 12valve?

What are those wires called together because I need to get those

You should have tested the starter before securing it in place. It would also have been nice to see the starter work after install.

I wanted to know do I have to take the driver Tire off to get to the top bolt of the starter?

Haha I bought one of those little gas station torch lighters just like the one you used, for the same reason. Just sits in my electrical box.

I clicked the link for the starter and it only shows it's for dodge ram 1500 up to 1998

Why does my starter bendix spin and not make contact with the flywheel? Flywheel has all the teeth and so does the starter. It sounds like a drill no grinding just it spinning it on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 magnum

Sounds like your bendix is messed up in the starter and not pushing the gear out. Time for a new one!

Is it the same for a 2004?

They used to have a list of necessary tools, what happened 1A?

Does the starter need to be shimmed

I lock bottom nut always, That will happen to a good starter, If someone over tighten the nuts.

Our Dollarrama sells them at the counter for 3 bucks in Ontario Canada. Hope this helps

you can buy them anywhere lighters are sold usually Walmart even has them in their section from $7-$18 bucks for a decent 1, I tried a cheapy, b/c I only needed it once, well it wouldn't even start, so I just bought the $17, it will last me forever as little as I use it. They last a while also unless you have heavy use.

as you can tell, this bolt is broken, you can tell by the way that it is.

On the 1998 RAM 1500 with the 5.9L v8 that I'm driving here in Alaska: The starter bolt (on top) is 16mm, the bottom nut (uses fine-thread stud there so the starter won't fall on your head during a starter swap like older RAMs) is a 17mm nut, main electrical lead nut to starter post is 13mm and smaller solenoid stud uses an 8mm nut + negative battery terminal is 13mm nut on the post.

My starter is going out I have to tap the starter with a broom handle to get my dodge to start. COME HELP ME!!
