Thank you so much awesome video. My dad used to show me how to do these things and he passed away. I used to pull the daughter card and I find myself needing to do these things on my own now. This made it pretty easy.

This was a really good video! Thanks for taking the time for showing it and you seemed to be very patient installing it. I'm always paranoid about getting under my Ram Truck, even to do oil changes. What I do is put down two 2x6" boards on each side and drive the truck up on them. That way I have an additional 3" of height to work with. That 3" really makes a difference and I'm not worried about a jack failing. Also, you don't have a jack in your way when working underneath the truck.

Get lots of extensions and a universal swivel. Harbor Freight 18"ratcheting breaker bar for the top 3 bolts on the black metal plate. Just loosen them and remove the button 2 bolts on said plate. That exposes the bottom starter bolt. Still difficult with the hoses in the way but doable. No air and no jack. Driveway job that to 3 hours that included eating lunch and pauses for cramped hands.

The problem is those starters originally installed at the manufacturer facilities before they drop off the engine in the truck, Therefore they never thought about how hard it will be for consumers to change parts.

Thanks for the vid, cause Although I have done bout a hundred starters in my life on mamy different rigs, I first crawled up under the passenger side. Found a heat shield too. 😒 My question to YOU is, do you think the swivel adapter was useful enough to buy one, or would a longer socket would be okay? I think I have a swivel adapt, but...its like a missing 10mm lol. The starter vid was helpful, yet familiar. Lol. I did watch the whole thing just in case. I also noticed the wire has a zip tie on it. The one im working on doesnt. I wonder if the factory does that? Cause it sets fairly loose on there, which could be the reason the solenoid petered out to begin with. Im sure the starter is good, but the power to it...well...you know. Anyway. Should I trust a longer socket or buy the swivel? Thanks. Good vid.

I wish I had that much room to work under my 2017 Ram 1500 HEMI. There are two metal tubes totally in the way causing the extension to go in at an angle which striped the threads in the new starter. Swivel don’t work either due to lack of room. I’d like to slap the designer of this truck lol.

Update: So I finished our starter. Dang..it was a pain. But I have some pointers for people now that im done. The bottom bolt is harder to get to. Especially if you take the top out first. So do the bottom one first. You can see it through a gap in a guard. Otherwise you're kinda blind on it. You wont be able to reach the bolt very well while trying to push the starter back in place for the last inch of removal. Then when putting the starter back in, put the top bolt back in first. Youll just be able to feel the bottom bolt with your finger to get it in place. And just get it to grab before turning it with a socket. Last but not least. It is important that you zip tie the wire to the post. That can wiggle a little, and you want the tightest connection possible. I was ready to quit. Its 100° here. I was on the gravel in the heat doing this. Oh it sucked. But I did it. This vid helped big time. My advice.. Be patient. If you arent, you will lose it on this. Dodge messed up on the placement of this. Hardest one ive done. 8 hours total. 😂
