Man this is a blessing. You were so clear and concise with your directions. I have full confidence in doing this myself now. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you Brian, I need to do this myself on my 2004 and the way you went through and explained everything has made the job achievable and has saved me a lot of heartache. Thanks again great job
I have a 2000 Lexus ES300. You DONT have to remove anything, the process in this video just shows how to get easy access to the plugs. I replaced all 6 plugs in my engine yesterday without touching the intake assembly. I even got the back 3 plugs with the engine cover on. The hardest part is getting the old electrical connectors off, but the trick is to get small needle nose vise grips to lightly hold the plastic connector tab open, and then use a medium sized flat head screwdriver to wedge the connector off of the coil pack.
Finally a freaking video showing the rear plugs

Brian, I can’t thank you enough for your step by step easy to understand video. With the help of a friend, we were able to get the job done in 3.5 hrs! Not too bad considering I have never done this before.
Thanks for showing this. I was able to follow and change all the spark plugs and coils myself. I saved hundreds of dollars. Thanks again!!!

@@HowtoAutomotive @How to Automotive I thought I would try this myself for fun and to save some money but after watching this, no way!! I'm gonna cash out, fuck it. Just had one spark plug, alternator and battery go bad at the same time a couple weeks ago. My mechanic only changed that one plug and coil, along with the alternator and battery but not the other 2 plugs - probably trying to save me money on additional parts because the other 2 still worked (he's always trying to save me money, good guy really). I got a 2002 Lexus ES300 with 175k miles and I'm pretty sure those 3 plugs were not changed before I bought it and I didn't get them replaced either - I have had the car since 2012 @ 70k. Do you think I should get the other 2 replaced even if they are still working? I'm hoping it will help with the idle - it fluctuates from 650 to 350 rpm when in park and sometimes in drive while stopped at the light and there's also a slight delay in acceleration off the line. Before getting all this work done, the car always idled at 500 rpm which is about low from what one of the technicians told me but it was always consistent at 500 rpm and didn't fluctuate like it does now. I've had the valve gasket cover, throttle body, knock sensor (they also did the 2 rear spark plugs and coils while there in there for the sensor) and the above mentioned spark plug all replaced at different times in the last 7 months. I just got the ATS fuel and oil treatment in the mail and I'm planning on doing that in the next couple weeks. Sorry, I know this was a lot. I would appreciate your insight if possible, thanks.
Thanks for the walk through. It took me 3hrs. Only $50 in parts. Midas wanted close to $500. Good tip on the two hard to reach bolts using flex head wrench!
Wow. I sure am glad Lexus made the plugs easy to get to! Great job BTW.
All that for some damn sparkplugs
Crazy number of steps but not all that hard really, just have to go reeeeeal slow, unless you're a professional mechanic. I'm not. So here's my tip for anyone actually doing this. Change the ignition coils at the same time, eBay offers a whole set of 6 pretty cheap and if you let a shop do it when one does go it's crazy expensive. And then, change that rear valve cover gasket at the same time while you have all that crap off, just do it. And finally, have all the parts marked out, ready to go. I also used colored magic markers on the vacuum line ends. Great video, helped me tons. Saved me 500 bucks. THANKS!

I agree that I would change the 3 rear coils while you are back there. But don't use those cheap Ebay ones, they will fail and you'll be back there again in 30k miles. Use Denso coils from Rock Auto (about $50 each but worth it), Denso Iridium plugs and you won't have to go back there for another 100k miles. Denso is the OEM supplier for Toyota/Lexus ignition parts.
Bro you are THE best! THANKS for the clear instructions with socket sizes and amazing camera work.
Brian, thanks for sharing this detail. I was able to clearly understand and follow your instructions. Saved me $300 by changing the spark plugs myself; 2 shops quoted the same ~2.7 hours. Thanks!

I thought doing spark plugs on my corvette was a PITA.. really not looking forward to doing the gf’s ES300 lol Great video!
Outstanding tech pointers!!! Thank you helped me out tremendously!!!
Very Informative My Mechanic just had to change my Fuel body very pricey.
where i can find the gaskets for Exhaust manifold for this car? can't seem to find the perfect fit

Wow! That was tuff! My 98 ES300 is no joke! I made it. Dang! I saved money tho haha nah really, I don't think I'll do that again on this car anyway. Prob once in a lifetime. Thanks for the help!
Great video! Thank you. So how long was this whole process when you did it? The video made it look faster than I think it would be.
What's the equal to 8mm between E4 and E18 on torx sockets? I don't see 8mm torx sockets.
Thank you sir. You are a Good man!
Am thinking about buying one of these es300 2002 would you say it's a good buy?

Thank you for the video! It is very helpful. I have one question about idling on 2002 es300. I have recently replaced a battery in my car. My car starts and idles about 800 rpm when it is cold but when it warms up, idle will drop all the way to zero then stall. I can still drive the car but I have to put a foot on brake and a foot on gas pedal to keep idle up at stops and lights. Lots of people have the same problem after replacing the battery. Could you help me ( others ) out by giving us some advice and instructions on how to fix it. I really appreciate your help in advance.

It’s took me 2 days to think about it and I know . You need to remove all engine air filters + box out then spray into throttle with the carburetor cleaner then clean all the gut ( old oil stick all around in side the throttle) when it’s cleaned . Put air filter + box .. back on and it’s will be good to start the engine. Well done

@@nicknguyen4181 you're correct. I had the same problem when I unplugged the battery to do electrical work. Cleaned out just the front end of the throttle body and it fired up, sitting at about 600rpms. Still gotta clean the rear when I do my plugs. Wish me luck.

Does taking off that strut tower brace cause you to have to get a re-alignment? Does it affect the strut position? It looks like you have to end up loosening the strut entirely on top.

Wow lots of work for this job but well worth it for these engines
I've done all the spark plugs on my 99 V6 Camry without removing air intake manifold. Just need a small ratchet + extention and wiggle around your hands haha. I also have this exact 2002 es300, i don't think theres as much room as the camry to do it without removing manifold
OK...I really have to study this video!! I was only able to get to the passenger side plug in the back without removing the manifold. There is literally no wiggle room with a ratchet for the other two. I should probably replace the gaskets while I'm at it!! Do you have a video on how to remove the valve cover to replace the gasket in the valve cover? Thanxxxx :)

A Saleh cylinder #1 is under intake.
How did you get the back support bolt for the plenum back in ? (Just feel it with fingers ?)
@HowtoAutomotive
5 жыл бұрын
Easiest way to do it is to make sure the bottom bolt on the bracket is loose a little bit. And you can get that from underneath. Then you can reach your hands around the back of the manifold and start the bolt because you have a little bit of play to wiggle the bracket up and down left and right get the ball started.

I have a 2002 ES 300 Lexus, from OBD reader, the 6 plugs need to be changed. I have changed all 6 with new plugs and including the ignition coil, works well for a week at most and begins to misfire and takes up more fuel. Check with the OBD reader again, it says all 6 needs to be changed. Manually bringing out the ignition coil and plugs, you will see they are all bad already. I have done this changing of ignition coil and plugs more than 4 times without getting the solution. Please what else can I do to solve this problem? Expecting a reply

It is nearly the same on all side mounted V6 engines. Did this job on an 2007 Ford Escape and it was very similar.
If you feel a bit of fear tackling this job. That’s ok, that is normal. You can do it!
This is why I'm buying a 2001 Camry with a little over 85,000 miles 4 cylinder easy to work on
Now that’s the only way to get to the 3 back plugs trust me I’ve tried.

If you buy quality plugs you won’t have to worry about that
Just buy a SWIVEL SOCKET extension. Easier that way. No taking off nothing
I've replaced spark plugs on the 97-01 ES300s--I thought that was a PITA, although I didn't need to take anything off besides the top cover, I used a swivel socket adapter and long extension. This looks hideous!
Bro there is 2 bolts behind the manifold on my 2002..
this appears to be ridiculously difficult just to change spark plugs. If I had known all this I would not have bought this car. I have always had cars where I could see the spark plugs and I always changed my own plugs. I need to be a Master Mechanic to do this job myself. I could get into too much trouble trying to do this job myself. Unfortunately my check engine light shows Plug 1 is misfiring. I sure will have to drive it this way for a while.
@HowtoAutomotive
7 жыл бұрын
Sally Steele they don't make it easy anymore do they. If I was you I would take it in and have somebody replace that spark plug or replace the spark plugs. Driving it with a misfire is very dangerous for the catalytic converter. The gas is not being used in the combustion chamber goes down into the exhaust and gets re-burn in the cat and with all the additional fuel can cause it to melt.

GO LOOK AT VIDEOS FOR MARQUIS AND SEE HOW EVERYTHING IS SUPER CAKE. I CHANGED THE STARTER ON THIS ES300 AND IT WASNT TOO BAD . . UNDER THE AIR INTAKE BOX . TOOK INTAKE BOX OUT AND REPLACED IT FROM THE TOP . NO NEED TO GO UNDER THE CAR. THIS IS A PAIN FOR REAR PLUGS . THE FRONT ONES SHOULD BE EASY . Allow me to summarize: ... ... ... This is a bullshit job 😂 Did my thermostat the other day. Had to literally take off the starter to get at it. Crock of crap 😂 With how good japanese engineering is, why in the fuck they didn't make the manifold have gaps between and position the tubes so you can access the rear plugs...but NOOOOOO, that would make too much sense.
